History: While gathering wood for his bonfire Baroona heard a couple of young yokai talking about a school, after getting curious about the human world Baroona applied to it. While waiting for the letter he sealed his bonfire into a jar and put it on a string around his neck. When he got his acceptance letter he boarded the battleship hopefully he can learn something here.

Slower than most Touhou's, but still surprisingly fast for his bulk.

Abilities:

True Form: A sentient weapon, Tom has the ability to transform into a human shape or his 'true form', a heavy Main Battle Tank. Tom first showed the ability to assume a human form three months after his incarnation. His scars and injuries in this form are consistent with battle damage on his tank form, but heal naturally. Soon it was discovered that normal food will in fact sustain him, but his exhaust smells funny afterwards.

Demonic: Vulnerable to holy weapons and sacred ground weakens him greatly. On the flip side his own attacks do more damage than they would if they were normal weaponry, and he can add elemental damage to his shots.

Bonded Spirit: Tom is attached to the metal of the tank, it won't kill him if it's destroyed although it will knock him out. Actually killing him would involve removing the spirit from the remains, for example by blessing them. Compare to how one would deal with a vampire.

Personality: Highly methodical, competitive and stubborn. He will follow his orders to the letter as long as they are lawful. Tom does not look for fights, but when he does he fights fair. His definition of fair being 'objective complete with all of my allies unscathed and fuck the other guys'. Prefers to reach out and touch someone at long range. Tends to respond badly to being surprised.

History: Created in the last days of the Soviet Union, Tom is the culmination of decades of occult research starting back in the days of the Third Reich. The Nazi's originally tried to summon demons as simple disposable shock troops, but most creatures proved to be either uncontrollable or too weak to be of use. Although some researchers on the project were either shot or were captured by the allies after the war, a substantial amount of the remainder pleaded for amnesty with the Russian government and continued their work. After decades of research into demonic possession, weapons, and control rituals, eventually it was decided that for practical purposes existing demons were simply too unstable and uncontrollable to ever lead to a genuinely reliable demonic army. Chernobyl was the last true attempt at a large scale summoning of 'standard' demons.

Undeterred by failure of their practical models, the researchers began to experiment creating their own demons by fusing smaller ones together. By and large it met with failure, the psychotic aberrations created this way even more uncontrollable than the arrogant natural born demons. Initially Tom was one of these failures, spiritually nothing more than a great deal of power left abandoned in a holding circle, any souls long since stripped away. Were it not for an unfortunate happenstance, that was all he would ever have amounted to. However, when the former base was stripped down, a very unlucky tank crew drove their T-90 over the containment circle, imbuing their tank with demonic powers. The warped frame, unrecognisable as an original MS, was soon taken in for further study by members of the KGB's former psychic phenomena research department. Finding him largely ignorant of worldly matters outside of those needed to perform as a tank, Tom was given the name Tolenka, meaning 'From the East'.

His last name comes from his adoptive father, a human colonel who took a shine to the eager if inhuman demon. Vladimir Cherchenko raised Tolenka the person, teaching him most of his current morals and manners, while the rest of the staff raised him as a soldier. The years that followed saw Tom go through an improvised but gruelling training regime. Finally Tom was leased to the Russian Army under the guise of a 'prototype AI model'. In actuality his masters wanted to see if their mental conditioning had taken hold. Although the tank served with distinction in the Dagestan War, his superiors soon recalled him after fearing he might possibly be mentally unstable. The war left him scarred on more than one level.

Soon after this Tom was shipped to Japan afterwards for more detailed research into the nature of his existence. It was suspected that his appearance might be comparable to the strange beings occasionally spotted near a certain abandoned shrine. During the trip, his transport aircraft suffered a strange malfunction, forcing the crew to bail out and leaving Tom inside. Before he had time to fully curse his luck, he found himself tumbling through a confusing (and secretly quite scary) tunnel filled with eyes. Some time later, Tom awoke on a lush green field in his human form sitting in a large, tank shaped indent in the ground. Surprisingly, in front of him lies a vanilla envelope with instructions from his father to 'live the life he could never have on the Outside'. What outside?
