Welcome to the world of Aea*, player, a world of a single immense continent surrounded by endless blue ocean. For ages upon ages since creation, there were no nations, no wars and no land claims. Life was simple and peaceful, if only for the monsters lurking in the wild areas. One day, acts of terrorism happened simultaneously around Aea, triggering panic, fear, chaos and a level of distrust between people. Most large cities closed up on themselves and politics became much more strict. Eventually, a cult appeared, claiming responsibility for the mass murders, explosions and fires set on that fateful day. The expressed their goal of separating the continent into different islands by using an ancient power they had recently discovered. Unlikely story, it seemed, except that the cultists possessed the never before seen ability to control monsters, so none took the threat lightly.
This is where you come in, young adventurer! The Aean Collective for Unity (ACU) is hiring mercenaries to join their ranks in defeating the Cult and preventing an engineered catastrophe that would change the world forever. You must first work hard to gain strength to be powerful enough that the ACU would accept hiring you. Good luck!
Your help could determine the fate of Aea.

I will call this a "collaboratively written virtual MMORPG". You play a role within a role. Your character is a player who has a character in a virtual reality MMORPG, in which 90% of your writing should take place. That being said, your character's real life should transpire into their MMO actions. Create a personality for your character, and then create their own MMO persona, which needs to be different. "People role playing people role playing people", that is what you need to keep in mind. Exploit the theory that in RPGs people often create vessels, their characters, for parts of their own persona they could not otherwise express.
I am also integrating some real RPG elements to this RP. There will be quests for which exp will be awarded. Your characters will level up, develop skills, search for loot, upgrade their weapon, etc. Weapons are not bought. All characters start level 1 as "Novices", have a branch and a satchel of stones as weapons. They become "Adventurers" after their first quest and the branch and stones evolve into a weapon reflecting their use of them in combat. This being said, there is a balance to be found between anal GM controlling and RP "magic". We won't be throwing dice every step of the way, so you need to write everything out and make sure your character goes through adequate strife. You can't always win, but that does not mean you are not rewarded. I will award exp and loot based on the following criteria:
- Quest Completion (obviously)
- Quality of writing
- Integration of the video game aspect in the storytelling
Since your characters will be constantly evolving, you will need to update your CS after almost every post. Sounds tedious, but doing it so often actually just makes it easier and very quick. Add "health potion" to your inventory, choose a new skill, update your gold amount, change your level... Not rewriting it! *dispels apprehensions*
I trust you, now you trust me: this will be awesome!

Do not include a physical description of the real life person. Anonymity is part of the game.

Gaining Experience: Experience is gained through quests, mainly, and can also be acquired with items in-game. This will always be detailed in the rewards for quests and special item descriptions.
Also, I may award special experience bonuses depending on the quality of your post. This will remain at my discretion. I should fairly often open contests like: "The next person to post gets double experience." and such.
Leveling Up: You level up when you gain enough experience OR when something special happens in-game. You never know.
When you level up you are awarded 1 skill point. IF this makes progression too slow, I will change it or give more bonuses. IF. More SP (skill points) later.
***Note: I obviously expect your level to reflect in your posts. Confidence, fighting style, resourcefulness... etc.
Experience requirements to level up: The official formula will be Exp Requirement = Current Level ^2 x 10
So, lvl 1: 1 x 1 x 10 = 10
lvl 2: 2 x 2 x 10 = 40
lvl 3: 3 x 3 x 10 = 90
etc... (Pograms - Run - calc :P I have a Mac, so that must be old by now for Windows)
Dying: When you die, you lose Current Level ^2 experience points. You can not retrograde or go negative, it'll just be 0.
Here are the Combat Skills I have developed. The idea is acquiring a variety from the main weapon type and then mixing them. Literally fusing them! Example (refer to the Bow skills): Explosive Ghost Arrow (Explosive Arrow + Ghost Arrow). Or maybe (refer to Fists skills): Crash Landing (Aerial Combat + Judo), used after an Uppercut, the adventurer jumps into the air, grabs his target and slams it on the ground.
Cool, eh? As long as you can RP it properly and it makes sense, I will allow it! Build up your character to be unique! The custom skills will be regulated through an "in-game" creation system. So you can't just come up with something mid-battle. It still needs to make some video game sense. For example (from HAMMER SKILLS), you would REALLY need to explain how a "crippling quake" works...

Reason: Added class requirements and restrictions.
Still recovering from Mono. Limited activity. Very sorry.
I remember in the original post you said that our weapon would start as just a stick, but it looks like you did away with that. What weapons are available to start with?
All characters start level 1 as "Novices", have a branch and a satchel of stones as weapons. They become "Adventurers" after their first quest and the branch and stones evolve into a weapon reflecting their use of them in combat.
Ding!

Song of the Moment!: Your Birthday Song by Go Radio
I recommend you all listen to it. Great and amazing song!
Ima go ahead and write up my CS, but a quick question. Does all dialogue have to be game-related between our "rl" characters? Or can they have random chatter?
Name: Michael Hughes (im a gamer, so ima use myself.)
Age: 17
Occupation: Videogame Controller Painter/Modder
Personality: I am a wierd, wacky kinda guy who loves to both play games and go outside. I am a bit cheesy at times, telling jokes that make sense once you think about it. I love sarcasm, but hate when it is used on me. I usually am relaxed, but tend to show my short-tempered ocd side. I blow up if anyone talks about my friends and/or family, but couldn't care less when others talk about me.
Name: Showdown
Gender: Male
Appearance: Stands 6'2" tall with a moderate wide frame. Good build. Weighs about 175lbs with long (shoulder length) black hair and silvery gray eyes with flecks of gold.
Current clothes/armor (thought id make this): Currently wearing a pair of black pants with a white shirt. Simple white shoes and a black, hooded cloak.
In-Game Personality: Showdown loves to take charge and be a leader, though he has a poor sense of direction, thus causing him to usually assign another person the task of making directions. He is very honorable when it comes to a fight, but he loves to scavenge and loot anything he can.
Level: 2
Exp: 47 (to next level: 3)
Weapons:
--Bare Branch
--Satchel of Stones
Inventory:
--5 Wolf Pelts
Current Quests:
(not started, doing, complete)
--Small Steps, BIG Claws! (Intro quest)

Some real life banter within the virtual game is encouraged, but put it in credibly. Something like:
"Tyrus, I'll be afk for a few minutes, mom's pestering."
"K."
And then monster spawn, kill his friend and the afk player comes back saying "Holy crap!"
Basic guidelines: don't reveal the real life name, and don't make it ALL RL, the point is to be playing an MMO. Keep it mostly game related.
