hmm..what about a terrorist organization unleashing a bioweapon that makes everyone except those with a certain gene become nearly feral mutated monsters. those with the gene however gain superhuman attributes at the cost of eventually degrading into said monsters unless they find a cure.
That's not really what I'm into. We could have a terrorist organization but I'm dubious about the mutated monsters.

hmm, what about a an illuminati type secret society which had been covering up knowledge of a nearing apocalypse. at the same time, a semi-benevolent alien race makes contact in an attempt to warn humanity of the pending apocalypse. the oganization twists this warning into a declaration of intent to cause said apocalypse, leading to a bloody war which leads to it. our characters realize this too late to stop it in their time, and thus use a stolen time machine to travel back to the past and stop the organisation from causing their desolate future

It's to do with alternate realities trying to kill each other. Future versions of ourselves coming back in time to kill us!

Set in present day we would play low ranking employees in an Organization dedicated to scientific research. Perhaps we could play a Security Guard and a Lab Assistant?
One day our world's are turned upside down when versions of ourselves from ten years in future travel back in time to kill us without warning.
Why are they trying to kill us?
In the future, The Organization creates technology that allows mankind to travel time but the moment they make the discovery they become entangled in a tremendous inter-dimensional war with alternate realities, different versions of themselves all different in some sort of way. (But no crazy mutations.)
The Roleplay would delve deeper into the reason why the alternate realities have to destroy each other. We would succeed in defeating our future selves, by killing them instead. Stranger versions of ourselves would continue to visit our Earth until finally we ourselves discover the secret of time travel and are truly entered into the war.
