Thread: NoW: Clockwork Man vs. Evvie

She had gotten wearily onto her feet by the time he had closed the distance between them. She got hit across the face with a backhand, knocking her head sideways but she otherwise stood her ground and deflected his kick with her right hand, which was by far the most dangerous of the two attacks. Her cheek was probably bright red, although she couldn't see for sure. The stinging in her face was nothing compared to what she had experienced before. She lunged at him with her left fist towards his face with all the strength that she could muster. She didn't want this battle to get drawn out or else she would almost certainly lose.

Although she managed to block his kick, he quickly recovered as he dropped his foot down to the ground and recovered full stability. Her counterattack came with what the Clockwork Man presumed was characteristic ferocity, a swift left hook aimed at his head. Certainly she was fast, and strong, but there was no finesse, no skill. Obviously he was fighting an opponent who bested relatively weak opponents with ease, and had no formal training.

She had invested everything in the attack, and although he was fast there was no conceivable way for him to avoid it completely. His head turned as he twisted his body to the left, the blow rolling into the side of his metallic head and causing it to crack backwards. The clockwork within screeched and grinded in annoyance from the impact, and he took a single step away from her to compensate for the blow. As his head twisted back into position eerily, the noise stopped. It would take more than a single impact, however powerful, to permanently damage his inner mechanics.

The gun at his side whirred onwards, telling him a shot was prepared, but he saved it for now as what he would describe as modest anger took control.

“That hurt.” He muttered. Stepping forward and dodging to the left, driving his right fist low and forward towards her abdomen. However, if she moved he would quickly abandon this attack for his real move, throwing his left hand up to grab her right horn. He would only do so briefly however, as he would then drive his right knee into her left thigh and pull her head downwards into his right fist as he drove it upwards in a vicious uppercut.

She stepped backwards to avoid his punch to her abdomen, but was too focused on that so she didn't react in time to his hand that went much higher and grabbed onto her horn.

"Oh no! My weakness!" She thought to herself as she was dragged downward. With his leverage it was too difficult for her to be able to keep her head up. Her left thigh was hit and it was now bruised as well, adding onto her list of injuries, yet that was one of the more minor ones. What did hurt was his powerful uppercut, which snapped her head backwards. It wasn't enough to break her neck, but the force was considerable and she was in a daze. If the man let go of her horn then she would fall onto her back. If he maintained his grip on her then he'd be in control of her body as she briefly become limp from the attack. Whatever the case she'd try to clear her head and then unleash her fire breath on him again and hope for the best.

As intended, the Clockwork man’s fist slammed into her head shortly after his knee bruised her leg and reduced her mobility. His hand slipped from the stubby horn as he allowed it to snap back with the head from the force of his attack. Her entire body shot backwards as she dropped onto her back on the treacherous ground.

The girl was becoming irritating in her resilience, even more so as she then unleashed a torrent of fire on the Clockwork Man from her position. He simply walked through it, protecting his face with his right arm, and indeed it was far weaker than before. Hardly even an inconvenience, no doubt the biological or magical function which allowed her to produce the inferno was doused by her injuries and the time in the freezing pool.

Talking of the pool, it was still a viable option for him to use it against her as she lay on her back, perilously close to the edge once again. He skipped to the left to move into a more appropriate position for sending her back in. Then, thinking better of it he dropped his right hand to the pistol still charging at his side. The fire had petered out quicker this time, so he was able to quickly draw the gun and from only three feet away fire at her prone form with unerring accuracy.

The pistol had not charged for long enough to fire all three rounds, but two were launched with still significant force at her chest. He had ignored her head in favour of the easier target, not wanting her to easily avoid both shots as they spread out by a few inches and flew towards her flesh.

Immediately after firing he would holster the weapon, heat dissipating from his bronze body, pat down the small fire which had started on his trousers, and then attack if necessary to finish her off.

Evvie was too tired to move, drained of her energy along with her flickering internal flame. More pain exploded inside her chest at the sound of a second loud booming noise, made even louder due to her enhanced hearing. The world had gone silent after this with the exception of the loud ringing in her ears due to the previous noise. She glanced weakly down through diming eyes to see two more wounds had been created just below her armored top.

"Well...owie," she said feebly, the understatement of the year for the seriousness of her injury. Her head flopped back onto the cold snow as her strength failed her. Her body began to try to heal itself and given enough time it was possible that it would succeed, but she highly doubted that the man would sit around for a week waiting for her to recover. Her only movement and sound was from her labored breathing as she lay motionless in the snow, barely conscious.

With the small flames burning through the fabric of his trousers extinguished, the Clockwork Man once again returned his attention to the fallen hybrid on the ground. Her voice was feeble to his artificial ears, but it still wrenched at his very soul. Her pain was likely excruciating, and to his eyes in the snow as she was with the cold wearing down on her she would likely die a slow agonizing death. If the Clockwork Man actually cared, he would have likely used this to justify his actions, as it were only the remnants of George Elmore felt the guilt, and the pain.

He stepped over her crumpled wing, close to the water’s edge, steam rising from his rapidly cooling body. Superficial burn scars marked the surface of his ‘skin’ but he ignored this as he looked down at his opponent. He knelt behind her, staring down with a mechanical fascination.

Almost tenderly, he lifted her head with his right hand, drawing her into a tight embrace.

    “Sleep little one.” He whispered.

His arms wrenched as he calmly snapped her neck, instantly cutting off the nerves, ending her life. No pain, just eternity. He allowed her bullet riddled body to fall back to the ground, almost in response the clouds opened and snow fell from the heavens.

As a light dusting of snow flakes covered her ice white corpse, the Clockwork Man stood and his gears and cogs whirred. He stepped back over the wing, and walked off into the distance awaiting his return.
