Yeah, he told me in Skype. I'm Central so I'm used to it being midnight by now.

Add me on skype and I might sing to you.

The only way I can limit myself to a Casual text is if I start writing with absolutely no plan at all and only have a single scene. Does anyone have any good tips on how to limit oneself? Decide what priorities to put above others and what else to think about in order to create a working and enjoyable story on 1500 words? I accept any suggestions. Because currently... Casual feels ten times harder for me to manage than Advanced, seriously. Because I will need to go seriously Advanced on my own style of writing if I want to make my texts shorter. I mean, when even my teachers inform me I write too much on essays and the like (I always stretch out to the maximum number of pages / words) then that is really a sign. ... Really, I should probably seek advice elsewhere but this was the place I started thinking about it because of the choice between Casual and Advanced, so... I've already sent in my Advanced entry, even though I originally intended to write a Casual...

It didn't appear to me that anybody actually answered your question here (what with you having won advanced and all), but here's what I've been doing:

    Try writing a particular style.

Many of the things I write aren't written as much for the story elements as they are for the perspective or medium. I find a lot of pleasure in the challenge that this provides, and very few of my stories written like this are ever very long. They average somewhere between 800-1500 words, because that's all I need to get the medium to leave the impact that I want. I find that it's harder to write at length when I'm writing in a manner that is unfamiliar. Third person? I could write like that all damn day. The more you write a certain way, the easier it is to repeat that process later and add length as your skills improve. Or you're ridiculously talented and I'm jealous. One of those two

    Some prompts:
    • First person
    • Second person
    • Writing about the protagonist from the first person perspective of a side character (or perhaps even the antagonist? I might have to try this sometime...)
    • First person with no meta-writing or "filler thoughts"
    • Third person, over the shoulder of a side character/antagonist
    • Second person, viewing the protagonist

I find that these are more effective the more they are mixed and matched with settings and character types that you are also unfamiliar with. Unfortunately I haven't read your work, so I can't really offer any suggestions for the remaining two variables

Anyhow, best of luck to everyone! I'm hoping I come around as more of a challenge this month

I don't think that Reilyx answered this well enough, so I'll answer. I believe that this might be the cause of those extremely massive entries that's being discussed. I find that the best way to limit anything I write is to set a plot line. If I don't know where my post is going, chances are it'll be a blabbering mess that might not ever end. To actually set a plot line helps me pace myself.

Try writing a character personality that you're not used to. That has always shortened anything I write significantly, mostly because I'm not sure what to do. With enough practice on that type of character, move on to a different one. You have to keep trying something new, or else what you're used to will just get longer and longer until everyone's upset and will refuse to read it.

What Reilyx said is good advice, but I find that it doesn't shorten what I write as much as it's a fight for me to keep writing like that. I still write the same length, I just slip and go back the the way I'm used to writing so many times that it end up in disappointment. Although, trying different writing styles and techniques can improve anything you write.

Reilyx is just weird that likes to stick out and write differently from everyone else, and enjoys reading stuff that's written differently. He would probably tell me the same thing he told you if I ever bothered to ask him for advice.

I wish you luck on your entry! Maybe I'll end up voting for it? I'm really nervous now. So many people entered, and I screwed up on my entry, so badly. I need to be more careful and reread my entry before I submit it next time.

To Those I'm Rping With Currently!

    Looking for more 1x1 RPs.

Heh, I'm very interested to all the other entries now. With a theme as open as this one I'm expecting the stories to go all over the place

I'm sorta the same, in that I love to think outside the box when it comes to components and whatnot. I don't know whether that's a good or a bad thing though.

On the topic of being different; is it normal that I find it far easier to write tragedy/sad stories than comedy/funny, happy stories?

So I recently took up the streaming gig. At times I'm awesome, at times I'm stupid, and sometimes I'm just plain silly.
