    The Mirror Lies

"8. 37. am," said Ashton mechanically, looking at her phone's clock display. She looked up at the the passing students, all of them perfectly normal to her eyes. A young guy smiled at her, and she smiled back. A blue-haired, flat-chested girl dressed in thematically shade of blue that carried a steel briefcase in one hand looked out of place, standing near the gate of her school. A security guard in a blue and black uniform looked over at her from his kiosk, and then back down again. Ashton was there, every day, at the same time. Waiting for something.

Maybe she was dreaming all along. Were there any supernaturals? The events six months ago felt so long ago, and no one remembered the students she had worked with at the time. But the mirror showed her, and them, a horrifying world of possibilities. She could not just ignore it.

Ashton sighed, looking up towards the road that led to the school. It was a single, two laned road with a few houses lined up on both sides of the walking paths. Any car that wanted to enter the school had to go by this road. The school itself looked bright and white. They had painted it six months ago, which made the building look a lot younger than it actually was.

Her phone beeped, and she looked at it again.

    The deal is done.

    SteeledFate, we appreciate your cooperation.

    The payment is made.
A little smile went to her face as she looked away. "$500 for a simple sale. It's hard to believe how much World of Warcraft accounts go for nowadays," she said, sounding a little pleased with herself. Machines back home spent hours chugging away at games like these, either as an almost legitimate account with wealth and equipment, or by taking advantage of those with wealth, equipment and poor password security.

She sighed again, though, putting her phone back in the pocket. $500 wasn't enough to buy any sort of commercial anti-venom, and she wasn't about to go wrangling snakes to get some.

Ashton looked back up at the students passing by the school gates again. Did she miss anyone supernatural?

Ashton had probably missed Sarah as she walked by, but then again, Sarah was one of the handful of people easy to miss at the school. Sarah had been staring at the sky until recently, and now she walked along the path towards the school grounds. The wings she had acquired six months ago were folded neatly against her back; only ages of practice had given her the skill to be able to manipulate them without having to preform physical motions.

Then again, neatly could be viewed as a loose descriptive term right now, seeing as they were quite well squished under the backpack that Sarah wore. Ashton had passed her up quite easily on the way towards the school, now that Sarah's long, slender legs carried her towards the school Sarah easily passed Ashton up. She silently wove her way towards the school and hoped that she would be able to just carry on normally like everyone else.

Though this was one of the times when Sarah would be proven wrong as she passed into Ashtons field of view...

Ashton blinked in surprise, catching the view of of a horned white hair girl walking towards the school. Her ears were pointy as well. No one dressed up like that before Halloween. Of course, Halloween was the day where Ashton would often accidentally ruin the costumes of others.

"So today's the day," she muttered. Her voice sounded a little resigned and yet determined. But what if this girl was the only supernatural in this school, Ashton wondered.

Ashton quickly walked in front of Sarah like an overeager bouncer. "Hello." Her speaking tone was boyish.

The girl smiled politely, extending a hand to shake Sarah's. Before Sarah could respond, Ashton leaned forward and whispered, "I can see your ears and your horns. How long have you been like this?"

Sarah stopped mid step and said. "Uh... Hi..." Shaking Ashtons hand, Sarah thought that this girl was trying everything in her power to look like a boy. Leaning forward to whisper, Sarah said. "Since this morning, i took time to at least learn to control my wings." Glancing about, Sarah nodded for Ashton to follow her and kept walking towards the school.

Sarah looked towards the sky as she walked closer to the school, talking to Ashton as they walked. "So how long have you been able to see weird things, and what are you becoming?" Sarah was rather adaptable to playing twenty questions with people, but generally she liked to ask the important things first and get them out of the way.

As they neared the school, Sarah wondered what the day would be like, would they see any more people like her?

"What am I becoming... nothing, really," said Ashton. Other than a little more depressed every day, she almost wanted to say.

To Ashton, this girl seemed a little nonchalant about the whole thing. "You don't seem that hysteric about the changes... must be that no one else noticed?" she asked. Sarah's question about 'how long could Ashton see weird things' went unanswered. Saying '2 years and 4 months' sounded like an answer that raised more questions.

She looked forward, seeing that they were about to reach the entrance of the school proper, and then back at the gate again. There might be more supernaturals. Turning back to Sarah quickly, she said, "My name is Ashton Barlow. I'm 12th grade."

Ashton placed a hand over her chest as she introduced herself.

Yorich was not having the best morning. In fact, his morning could have been described as the absolute worst morning in the history of all mornings. It wasn't just because he didn't have time to shower, or have breakfast (though those could definitely be additional factors), rather it was the reasoning behind missing these very important morning traditions. And it all began when he saw a large, strange looking arm reach over and break his alarm clock into tiny pieces, as well as many other things that happened to be on his desk side table.

And it all seemed to get worse when he had looked into the mirror. Everything seemed fine at first, but that was only a brief moment of relief as soon, he was looking at a complete stranger that could be even described as a monster. The only thing convincing him that he was looking at his own reflection was the fact that he could feel his newly acquired claws cutting through the tiled bathroom floor like it was nothing more than fresh clay. Part of him wanted to feel the words swirling down his body, or even just get a closer look at his hair or eyes, but he was afraid of what he could do with his now monstrous arms. Getting ready was a pain too, as the only way he could even get his arms through the sleeves was tearing through his favourite t-shirts. He still wasn't sure how he got his pants on. What was worse was how, when his parents saw him for the first time that morning, the only thing they commented on was his "strange new fashion sense" which only meant that they couldn't see it, which would mean that complaining to them would only make him look insane. Unless he was insane and this was all mass hallucination, but the cut he had made in his chest from his giant talon said otherwise.

He just about gave up when he couldn't get his incredibly large and strong hands to pick up the spoon with any sort of precision. He made several attempts, all making him look like he was blind, but he just lacked the proper sized hands to operate a small tool such as a spoon, and even if he did manage to pick it up somehow, odds are he would have just snapped the spoon in two or crushed it into silver dust.

So, after sufficient failed attempts, and the painstaking task of adjusting the straps of his bag to allow for his newly acquired arm size, he lumbered off to school, trying hard to keep his arms off the ground, choosing instead to cross them cross his chest in hopes of not leaving a trail of scratch marks in the sidewalk. He was trying desperately hard not to think about what would happen to his tech jobs with his huge arms.

And after an agonizingly long walk, he arrived at what would be probably the worst challenge ever with his huge arms. It would be like going through puberty all over again. Only this time he was going to be the only one who knew it.

At least, that is what he thought when he arrived at the school, but he soon saw that that wasn't quite the case, as it seemed that there was someone else who seemed to be out of place. A girl, with wings restrained behind a backpack and a rather attractive appearance talking to a normal boy, or possibly girl. At this point in time, they were his only salvation from this real life nightmare.

"Hey!" Yorich called after them, running as fast as his arms could let him as he quickly caught up with the pair. "Could either of you possibly tell me what the heck is going on?"

Axle's ears still rang from the noise his alarm made in the morning. Even now he hadn't gotten used to how well his ears picked up sound. Some scents were a bit too much for him too, but at least he had the willpower to ignore them. His favorite part of his transformation was how well he could see. Before this happened, he had 20:13 vision which was better than what was considered "perfect vision", but now it was more like 20:4 or 20:3. The being able to see in the dark was nice too. Being part cat was a luxury and a pain. He believed with all of his heart that he wasn't alone in these changes.

As he walked toward the school building a girl with wings and horns caught his eye. He sneaked up on her and poked her carefully in the side, making sure his claws were retracted before doing so, because he didn't want to hurt her. He figured a little teasing wouldn't hurt too. "Hey pretty lady, you got a little something right here." He tapped a wing lightly. "And here." He patted her head making sure to play with her horns a bit. "Nice to be not the only one to change."

"Jackpot," was all Ashton could say. She tried to hide her grin, but it came out all the same.

For a moment there, she was looking at a horned white hair girl, a young boy with huge claws he held, crossed around his waist, so long such that Ashton would not trust him to be around anything delicate, and another young boy with a face like a cat and claws instead of fingernails. She closed her eyes for a second, and reopened them. What stood in their place was a normal, black-haired girl, a brown-haired boy whose hair looked a bit like a disaster zone, and another brown-haired boy who looked almost the same as his supernatural form, minus cat-eyes, cat face and cat claws.

She shifted her briefcase side by side, desperately trying to hold back her smile. It wouldn't look good on her to look so overjoyed at their predicament.

A few thoughts rolled around in Sarah's mind, prominently was. ~If she isn't becoming anything, how can she see me?~ Sarah gave a short hum and said. "I was rather freaked out when i woke up with a pair of wings on my back and a few new urges here and there. But after mentally tempering myself a bit and some practice, i have my body under control again; hopefully i wont undergo another growth spurt."

After Ashton introduced herself, Sarah gave her head a slight bow and said. "Sarah freewind, and hopefully i stay that way." Sarah gave a small smile, she didn't show teeth or anything fancy like that, just a small smile to be friendly, but doing so caused her new found succubus powers to kick into play. Invisible magical energy worked its way though Ashtons body, causing her to crave lustful pleasure, but it didn't really force her to crave it, with enough mental resistance (IE: Not being a drooling hound only needing a small nudge to get going) it was entirely possibly to resist this weak magic Sarah put out just now.

Sarah actually felt her magic come into motion, she looked around and said. "I feel as if i am suddenly full of static electricity, do you feel anything?" After another second or two of looking around Sarah reached up and touched one of the red markings crossing its way across her face like an exotic makeup. They felt as if they had just vibrated a bit, but that should be impossible, shouldn't it? Though the impossible was to be expected around Sarah, as typically transforming into a succubus bit by but was not exactly an every day occurrence.

Sarah was rather startled by a happening of events, First, a boy with rather overly large demonic arms came running up to them demanding an answer that neither she nor Ashton had; then she felt someone poking her like a cat mandating that it be fed again. Turning to this newcomer she asked. "While it is good to see that i am not the only one afflicted by these ailments, please do not pat me, it is rather indignant..."

Ashton felt a little jolt in herself mind, but this little jolt seemed more perfunctory rather than anything else. She knew herself to be immune, or at least highly resistant, to mentally-altering effects of the supernatural.

That was what saved her life.

"I think you probably have a mind-affecting ability. I'm mostly immune to that sort of thing. Not sure why," noted Ashton.
