Yours inspired me on a possible title, how do you feel about' "Blooddrunk in Ba Sing Se"?

  2. #22
Hey, yeah, I like that. I'd say go for it.
    I must not fear.
    Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing...

    Only I will remain.

    Name: Hana Yon-Fei Tao
    Age: 19.
    Gender: Female.
Looks: Normal built, with no athletic features or additional muscles. She stands at a height slightly short of regular, and is of average weight with normal body proportions for her height. For hair, she has coal-black as runs in her genetics and the grey-eyes her mother had. Her attire usually consists of thin layers of the greens and browns of the Earth Kingdom, a brown money-pouch and a pair of normal but light, dark-brown shoes for comfortable travelling through the grounds and grasses of the kingdom.

Character archetype: Adept, as I don't see an air-bender being any other.

    • Move 1: Air-shield (short-range, defensive). It involves circling adversaries, suddenly changing direction when attacked and evading by physical movement or deflecting by throwing up gusts of air close to the body as a shield. It is rarely used to stop attacks directly, and more often pushes the attack aside and away, conserving energy.
    • Move 2: Air-crescent (long-range, defensive/offensive). The air is conjured in a crescent-shaped form, constructed of solidified air capable of deflecting elemental attacks or objects, such as rocks or weapons and sending them off-course. It can also be used to strike and hit the adversary with smaller forms of it, to swipe them off their feet or push them back.
    • Move 3: Undecided (short-range, offensive/defensive). This self-developed technique is not yet finished, and will be worked on by the character (during the role-play itself) as she does not yet posses the knowledge to complete it. In the end, it will be a balanced attack: a solidified air-construction surrounding the body, made from air that is drawn from the higher skies (in other words: colder air). The air-construction can be broken apart, and the gusts of cold air can be used to strike with.

Extra feat(s): Enhanced agility: air bending can easily used to assist in jumping higher than usual, and slow or deflect falls by creating cushions of air. The constant movement required makes her naturally flexible and agile. It allows for easy manoeuvring around opponents and side-stepping, as if dancing/flowing around the opponent without wasting any energy. Enhanced speed: air bending can allow for the enhancement of movement in battle; such as running swiftly by decreasing air resistance around her without getting out of breath. It also allows for a very light-step.

Character Flaws: She was not built for close-combat or handling weapons, and her peaceful-nature has kept her from training her body making her physically weak. As there are not many air-benders left, she does not know much about their culture or her elements' specifics meaning most of her techniques are self-taught. None of her moves (or attacks) can do any actual physical harm, as all of them are meant to be used as diversion, to block or for evasion purposes. Then there is the matter of enclosed spaces: as an air bender, she would be at a significant disadvantage in an enclosed space, restricting her movement and the amount of air that can be used.

Character History: Her ancestors were some of the Air Nomads escaped the initial attack on the temples and proved too elusive for the Fire Nation to hunt down. While most of these were later lured into a trap, and dealt with by Fire Lord Sozin; her ancestors were amongst those that had left before Sozin spun his trap. They fled deeper into the Earth Kingdom, and settled in Ba Sing Se. With the passing of time they spread out and married with earth-benders and non-benders alike, and any proof that they once had been Air Nomads was erased. Genetics, however, do not simply vanish. Due to this, there were few children born with the potential to be air-benders, but as these went untaught and learnt nothing of spirituality they lived as non-benders, never knowing of their potential. One of their descendants was her mother, unbeknownst to her, who married an Earth-bender in Ba Sing Se.

For the duration of her childhood she lived with her mother in a small apartment above a tea-shop that her father had owned. When she was four, her father passed away and the tea-shop was left to her mother. Business was slow at first, but soon more clients began to come and they were capable of living comfortably: without luxury, but with enough food and clothing. She spent her time running errands for her mother, or playing games on the streets with other children, having herself convinced that was a non-bender. As she grew older, she started helping out more in the shop and her mother gifted her some scrolls that had been passed down generations and depicted beautiful pictures. Her mother wasn't aware of the fact that they also depicted some air-bending techniques, or who had made them. One day, she was fourteen, she tried to copy one of the movements and sent a gust of wind through the window: blowing away a cabbage man's cart.

Fei never told her mother of it; and studied the scrolls until they held no more secrets for her. After having finished with her, she took up a habit of reading more and developed a liking for information and clever games. One thing her ancestors have left her with is an affinity for protecting the weaker, and a peaceful-nature. Her mother used to joke about sending her to enter the military, if she didn't stop reading so much, but Fei never took her serious and has no interest in such things. She believes that armies defy the point of peace, and holds a grudge against armies and soldiers, as they use their elements for murder- whatever the reason. Other than intelligent and pacifistic, she can also come over as care-free and a tad bit impish. Her clever tongue has a tendency to get her into all kinds of trouble, although she usually means well. In the future, she hopes for a chance to visit Republic city and plans to take over her mothers' tea-shop after she retires. Her wanting to visit to Republic city is partly because of the pro-bending tournament (for watching purposes, and not entering) and partly because she hopes to catch a glimpse of how far the Avatar has gotten with air-benders, hoping to learn.

Extra: I used some of the canon information from the 'avatar wikia', to assure it all fits and exists.

I gave my theory on how air-benders can still exist to the GM and it has been approved, but if any of you would like to take a look at it as well, simply send a PM.

Your theory seems solid to me. Personally I think the ability to play an airbender is more joyfull than arguing about what's canon or not.

@Milkman, exactly. That's what I wanted. I like to play in a consistent universe, without breaking the rules of the original series, but enjoying the roleplay is still the most important part.
As for the use of Avatar wikia, that's where I go to get my facts straight as well. They have an extremely large library of resources on the entirety of Avatar.

As the main guy that argued against airbenders, I have to apologize. It is, of course, rather absurd to believe that every single Nomad was killed when Ba Sing Se never fell until the events of the first show, and though Hana is something like 5 or more generations removed from her actual Air Nomad ancestors, it is most likely her spirit rather than genetics that allows her to be an airbender. Others in her family had been capable, but she is truly similar to the ancient monks in spirit, and thus with the right spark (introduction to the martial arts part of airbending), her abilities surfaced. I like it. A very good justification, certainly.

@Imperfectionist: You're right about the 'spirit', rather than 'genetics', but I found that part a tad bit hard to explain. I'm glad you approve, by the way.

@Dragonbeard: I agree. The avatar wikia is a true blessing; they even have information that could otherwise only be found in the comics.

    Here's my CS:

    Name: Lee Chun Feng
    Age: 23
Looks: Lee stands about 6"2 tall, weighing in at 130 lbs he has a very stringy build. His light brown hair runs down to about halfway his shoulder blades. His face has strong lines, giving him a look that makes people consider him about a decade older than he really is. Thin goatee that adornes his chin doesn't help proving his youth either.
Most of the time Lee goes dressed in clothes that strongly resemble the standard earth kingdom attire, but using black instead of the tradional brown, paired with green.

    Character archetype: Tank

Move 1: Helmet Bash: a rather crude move that makes use of a stone helmet, decorated by horns to add some personal flavor, bent to cover the head. This piece of headwear will make sure the receiver of the headbutt will be in a lot more pain than the dealer.

Move 2: Wall Smash: Using one fluid sequence of footwork, weight-shifting and leveraging his opponent, Lee will put up a wall of rock behind his enemy and subsequently introducing said foe to a rather painful experience.

Move 3: Flanking Crash: Probably the most ingenious move in Lee's arsenal is the Flanking crash. Going in for a punch, but striking too wide, Lee will give his opponent plenty opportunity to sidestep the attack. Through careful foot-movement a big chunk of the ground will fold upwards giving his foe a big lick on his blind side.

    Extra feat(s): Bend-assisted movement

Character History: Lee is the sun of one of Ba Sing Se's more powerful agricultural land-owners. Having enjoyed the easy life and education in both general matter and earth bending have made him a rather unpolished earth-bender and overall underachiever. He spends most of his days either tinkering in the garage, loitering on his father's estate or wasting life away in one of Ba Sing Se's many establishments. While most of his childhood friends have started working, Lee hasn't felt the urge to be truly productive, nor has he ever needed to be, considering the status of his family. He takes life one day at a time, leasurely waiting for his calling to smack him in the face.

Flaws: Comfort object: Lee will always carry around a toy car in his pocket. Having gotten it at the age of 7, it is the one and only reason he grew to spend time on the two-wheeled piece of junk resting in the garage. It is the thing that inspired him not to waste the entire 100% of his time, as well as keeping him sane and peaceful come bedtime.

and in other news, the IC is up: Blooddrunk in Ba Sing Se
