S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Frontier Ukraine (High Casual) - IC up!

    S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
    Frontier Ukraine

    IC:
    http://roleplayerguild.com/showthread.php?190154-S-T-A-L-K-E-R-Frontier-Ukraine-IC&p=8220198#post8220198

1986, Pripyat, Ukraine. The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant's No. 4 reactor suffers a catastrophic power increase, causing explosions in its core. The disaster sends mass amounts of radioactive particles into the air around Pripyat and beyond, the toxic cloud reaching as far a Norway. Years later, the Ukrainian government tries to clean up and repopulate the area around Pripyat, stationing military personnel and scientists in the region. However, another critical accident occurs in 2006 and the majority of Pripyat's new inhabitants are killed or mutated by the event.

It is now 2012 and the Zone of Alienation is now home to many individuals called "stalkers." Stalkers are wanderers, seeing thrills, wealth and adventure within the Zone. The Zone has become a new frontier of sorts, although is officially off-limits and policed by the Ukranian State Security Service. Stalkers are an illegal, but ever-present feature of the Zone, attracting many different kinds of people. Some stalkers band together to form paramilitary organizations, research groups, or simply to get by. Being a stalker is dangerous business, especially with the Zone teeming with mutants, the children of Chernobyl. Not to mention the radiation and anomalies that dot the wilds.

Despite the hardships, you have come to the Zone with a band of like-minded hopefuls, seeking a new life inside of the Zone. Will you find whatever it is you seek? Will you join other stalkers for a greater cause? Or will you simply try to survive the dangers that lurk in the dark? The Zone is your frontier, for better or worse.

    ----

Thank you for taking a look at this OOC! I hope you're just as fascinated with S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s setting as I and want to try your luck in the Zone. For those unfamiliar with the game, but still interested, I'll defer you to the links at the end of this post. In this RP, all the players will be part of a small band of newbie Stalkers, diving into the exciting and dangerous world of the Alienation Zone. No matter your reason for being a Stalker, your friends are your life and all of you must work together to overcome the challenges that await. It's no wonder most Stalkers who venture alone never return - they never had an extra hand to help them along! You and your band must decide where it will go and what decisions it will make; will you join a greater faction and lend hand to a cause? Or does a life of banditry sound more appealing? Maybe you'd rather get rich by selling artifacts? The choice lies with you and your friends!

    ---

    Ground Rules:
-I will play a character, but I will also direct the flow of the RP. Should you explore a room, stumble across a stash, loot a camp, I will provide details regarding your findings. I will also control NPCs, enemies, the environment, etc. to give the RP a living, breathing atmosphere for us to interact with. In the RP, what I say goes, but I won't be a tyrant and try to kill you off in a particularly evil fashion. I just ask you follow the course of the RP and respect what happens.

-Play realistic characters. The majority of you are young and new to, or have recently lived in the zone. You won't know everything there is to know yet, and you won't be a badass at the flick of the wrist. Your gun may jam, you may get caught in an anomaly, you may expose yourself to radiation and you just might get robbed. It's the nature of the Zone.

-Be honest about your inventory! It's imperative you keep track of your belongings. I'll manage everyone's items on my end, but only to a basic extent. I expect you to know what you have and don't have and be mature about your item counts. Also, know your weapon! Know how many rounds it will carry in one magazine, what its limitations are, etc. I'm expecting you to be responsible about your ammo count. I don't want to have to keep track of how many rounds you've fired; no need to be exact, but you do have to swap mags and you will run out of ammo if you don't find more. And obviously, you have to have the right calibers for your weapon(s).

-Respect your fellow stalkers! We're here to have fun and have fun we shall!

-Upon reading and agreeing to abide by these rules, add "Сталкер" to the very bottom of your CS. It's Stalker in Russian.

    Name: Wictor Bozek, "Vector"

    Age: Mid Twenties

    Sex: Male

Appearance: If you were Wictor's friend and were beat to an inch of your life before spilling the beans your words would be, "He's a tall guy with apurple bandana around his neck. It hangs below his shirt lining. Six foot somethin'. Wears black steel toes nine times outta ten. He's white."

Ambitions in the Zone: To stick it to lawmakers and carve out his own way of life.

    Short Background:
Being a civilian in The United States then Poland didn't cut it for Wictor. He had always been fascinated by the idea of life without society, without boundaries. No ultra sensitive people he had to censor himself around, laws, taxes, police, unfair capitalist systems, long hours with minimum pay, milkshakes, that guy who doesn't pull far enough into the intersection now you have to wait a full light before you can go left; it was all gone once he entered The Zone.

    However, t
o live alone in The Zone is to befriend madness. His few long months in The Zone has put Wictor a little more on edge than usual. Individuals can be picked off for any number of reasons. Wictor found sticking with others and putting on a bit of someone else's persona saves lives. One group didn't seem halfway bad. This same group has had eachothers' backs for a bit now.

The traveling lifestyle is far from grand in the sense of luxury. Something as simple as eating has so many strings attached to it. In the zone a person needs to know what they can and can not put in their skillet. Certain things cook at different temperatures. Other things might be poisonous. Before the fire's even started the cook needs to make sure rain isn't coming. Plus the fire needs to be controled to have the smoke not reveal your position all that much. The smell of the food may attract unwanted company. That's just trying to have a solid meal in The Zone.

    Inventory:
    Daily Usage~~

Alice pack, sleeping bag, tarp, hoodie, overalls, black poofy chicago style winter jacket,

aluminum canteen, flashlight, skinning/eating knife, can opener, two bic lighers
    Reserves~~
    two
loaded extra (8shot)9x18 magazines, twelve loose 9x18 bullets, matches sealed in celofane, 3/4 can of baby blue spray paint, five days worth of food

    Weapon(s):

Think you could flesh out your CS a bit? I'm looking for a couple paragraphs. Doesn't need to be long, but should tell me a bit about him; why does he want to carve out his own life? How'd he learn about the Zone? What does he know about it?

Here's my main character; not an official part of the group per-say, but he'll tag along as a guide and mentor, to an extent. He'll be around more often than not.

    Name:
    Mykola Kovalski
    Age: 33
    Sex: Male
    Appearance:

Ambitions in the Zone: Mykola isn't really sure why he chooses to stay in the Zone. Maybe it's the excitement; a longing for adventure that keeps him here. The Zone feels like a whole other world, separate from the happenings of the rest of Earth; a place to get away and be somebody new. He's made a decent living gathering and selling artifacts when he finds them, along with keeping outposts secure from bandit raids and mutants. Recently, he's been thinking of getting out more and exploring the farther reaches of the Zone, but he knows that's not something one can do alone.

Maybe by satisfying his curiosity, Mykola will stumble on some treasure trove or artifact haven and strike gold. That would sit well with him. If not, he'd at least see things he's never seen before, although he has encountered some things that would scare the pants off a newbie. More likely, Mykola's just in it for the fun and sometimes in a place like the Zone, that's all you can ask for.

Short Background: Mykola has been a Stalker for nearly ten years, although he hasn't been to the more remote sections of the Zone. He frequents the 100 Rads bar in Rostok often, but typically hangs around Cordon, inspecting the newer Stalkers that come and go. His life has mostly revolved around helping out other Stalkers, lending his assistance to small towns and lost newbies. He started around his 23rd birthday, eager to escape the mediocrity of normal life. It took a while getting used to dodging anomalies and not looking at the wrong guy funny. The Zone's unforgiving reality would whip him into shape sooner or later, and he'd pick up various tricks to help survive the Zone.

Mykola's had a few close-calls and run-ins with the wrong sort of people. Nothing he couldn't handle one way or another, but they were constant reminders to keep alert and ready for whatever could happen out there. He does his best to remain on people's good side and has a few close acquaintances around the Zone's southern regions. The Zone is still an unpredictable place and Mykola has had to learn to deal with mutants and packs of wild creatures that harass Stalkers everywhere. It'd be a good idea to pass on some of his experience to younger Stalkers, but there hasn't been a great influx of newbies the last time he was in Cordon. Maybe things will change soon...

    Inventory:
    -Stalker/Sunrise suit
    -Gas mask
    -Personal PDA
    -Basic First Aid kit
    -A week's worth of canned food/rations
    -Sleeping bag
    -Soviet-era parka
    -Anomaly detector

    Weapon(s):
    -
    AKS 74U
    -CZ-82

Will Finish this tomorrow. Just wanted to get him up there.

    Name: Ivan Karlik
    Age: 25
    Sex:Male
Appearance: He stands 6'1 and weighs 220 lbs. He has short black hair and brown eyes, which are mostly covered by his Warsaw Pact mask, but when he does ake that off, these are what people see. He speaks with a somewhat deep voice, but the depths of it don't go very far, making him easily understood. Currently, he bears no tattoos or scars, but he hasn't really bathed properly in a while and so bears a residual smell about him, mixed with the vodka he drinks; of course.

Ambitions in the Zone: After hearing quite a few rumors about the Zone and what it holds, to many of those he's heard from it's a giant mystery, the former Ukrainian Policeman has decided to come and take a look. he's not sure that there even is a mystery to solve, but he's up for discovering just exactly what the Zone contains. He's heard of strange monsters, even stranger happenings (i.e. disappearances); thus he's here to unravel the inter workings of everything. he secretly also hopes to bring back some artifact or valuable items from the Zone; something to show he was there, and to give him more credibility when he tells stories of his time there.
He's gotten to the Zone through some of his connection in the police department, who have given vague warnings about the place and stated that some of the rumors might be true, but Ivan's not exactly sure. He wants solid proof that what they say is true, though he knows that Chernobyl has affected the land, but he's not sure how badly. He has a sense of exploring the unkown, searching for whatever he can find and doing some thrilling and dangerous.

Short Background: Born in Kiev, Ivan's path was set for law enforcement, thrilling and dangerous job. But, after ten or so years on the job, it began to get boring and though the danger levels never decreased, he found the lifestyle to be too mundane and wanted something more. That was when he began venturing to bars where strange rumors about Chernobyl and The Alienated Zone began to swirl. At first, he continued on with his job, enforcing the law and protecting the innocent, but soon enough, people began making more and more bold claims and his curiosity got the better of him. Thus, he quite his job, using some of his early retirement money to venture down to The Zone.
He knows that there are organizations here, such as the military, that seemed have "controlled the access" to the Zone, but he wonders how it is then that people can spin these crazy stories if they can't even enter the place? In short, he traveled to the Zone to figure things out, explore an unknown territory full of dangerous monster and other sightings, and give himself a thrill, and a nice change of pace.
    Inventory:
    -Warsaw Pact gas mask,
    -PDA,
    -First Aid kit,
    -trench coat,
    =boots,
-backpack with spare clothes and a week's worth of canned food
-a bottle of vodka on the outside of the backpack (in a side pocket)

Just make sure you remove the AKM from your CS; the group will be starting with pistols. Mykola only has a carbine because he's been a Stalker for a while and will be the group's mentor, so to speak. He's more like an NPC.

Okay, count me in. I just want to know one little thing; when is this RP settled? Sometime during the Stalker games or independent from those storylines?

    Name: Lilyia Petrova
    Age: 29
    Sex: Female
    Appearance:

Ambitions in the Zone: For all Lilyia is caring at the moment, her heart is beating for the beating up of others, making her way through the world and getting a few bottles of booze along the way. Much of this is combined with the slight tickle of money in her pockets, which brought her to the Zone the moment she heard about it. Rumors about quick money for a small job tempted her a lot. This would result in more alcohol, however. Anything she is doing would end up in alcohol sooner or later.
She quickly caught another rumor that picked her interest. The woman heard an old man in a bar along the way to Ukraine about a place inside the Zone, close to the Chernobyl NPP, that would grant all the wishes of the person finding the place. With that, Lilyia thinks, she would be granted the life back she always wanted.

Short Background: After being expelled from MVD for massive alcohol problems and a long list of attacks on higher authorities, Lilyia lost her sense of responsibility and quickly fell down the steep slope of alcohol and no work. Shortly after killing a former colleague in a barfighting, the girl took her small amount of belongings and left for the place for the outlaws; the Alienated Zone. Along the way, she caught the rumor to become rich and that there is a place that allows a person to have it's wishes granted. All of this only made the girl travel faster to the Zone.
    Inventory:

    -Spare underwear
    -Gas mask
    -Personal PDA
    -Basic First Aid kit
    -A week's worth of canned food/rations
    -Sleeping bag
    -A bottle of vodka
-A hip flask hidden in her worn bra (filled with vodka)
    -A worn out leather coat
    Weapon(s): Makarov PM

    Ivan's all set!

I intend for the game to be situated around the same time as Shadow of Chernobyl, but the actual game won't have a big impact on the events. There'll be some minor differences regarding the factions. As a whole, the RP will be independent form the game (no Marked One, etc.).
