On a roleplay site, if a piece of writing used as a synopsis or introduction or as an actual in-character post is either not famous (i.e. the opening of a Shakespeare play, or the opening of A Tale of Two Cities) or not credited to someone else (i.e. a published book, video game, manga, TV show, movie, etc. or the original author elsewhere on the internet), the standard assumption is that the person who posted it wrote it.
What counts as a piece? I would never take an extended chunk of text from someone else and pass it off as my own, but I have borrowed short phrases, lines and metaphors from famous writers when I think they fit in with my writing. I pinch little snippets of Shakespeare, or the odd line from Proust, a metaphor from EE Cummings or some other genius who is just so damn good at expressing emotions or ideas. Again, I stress I would never take anything more, I can hand on heart say 99.99% of everything I write is original, but there is a common sense line here.
Hector: What art thou, Greek? art thou for Hector's match? Art thou of blood and honour?

Thersites: No, no, I am a rascal; a scurvy railing knave: a very filthy rogue.

Hector: I do believe thee: live.

on the other role play site that i sometimes use, my plot lines have been stolen three times by the same person. they werent even good plots, and since the administers really didnt care, i had to go deal with it myself. i usually dont make any role plays for that reason. 0-0

Reminds me of what Tarantino tends to do in his movies. He has great love and respect for certain things that have already been done and he puts little pieces of them in his movies. Some like it and some don't, but I wouldn't be concerned about little things like that. I've made allusions and even some direct quotes from the Bible but I don't think Jesus is out for blood. There's borrowing similar ideas and turning them into your own which...with everything already been done that's what writing really is now. Just spinning a common idea into your own thing. Copy and pasting entire paragraphs or ideas down to the very word and displaying it in a way that 'this is 100% my idea' is definitely plagiarism.

That said, having RPed for a long time, if one of my RP's got stolen I'd be pissed about it but...eh, maybe it's just me. I wouldn't take it as a gigantic deal. Don't get me wrong, they should definitely be punished. In writing I deem plagiarism as one of the few sins that exist, but if I was writing a short story, poem, novel, I'd be in a blinding rage. I wouldn't be so scared about never making anything for yourself Tickout. If you have an idea you like and want to make something of it, the worst thing you could do is not even try. I'm probably different but if I saw my RP stolen, I'd report it but I'd be more annoyed than cross-eyed mad.

Welp, at least I know this isn't happening to me. I'm too crappy of a writer for anyone to consider it.
