Once more into the fray..
Jason stared into her eyes. She looked so beautiful, and the way she looked at him was even more of a reason to kiss the crafty woman in front of him. "You are making it extremely difficult to be boring, Miss Hanes.... ah screw being normal." He took her hands, and pulled her into his lips. People sighed in frustration as they pulled out their wallets and tossed their bet money on the table. "You couldn't have waited one more minute?" one of his friends asked. He wasn't paying attention, he moved his lips to her ear. "Looks like you won't be going home alone..." He whispered, smiling a bit and then pulling back.

Jessica caught his hand before he could pull away, leaning in to whisper. “I wasn’t going to go home alone anyway. Even if you had acted boring, I’m pretty sure I could have snapped it out of you.” Staring back into his eyes, she sighed softly. She knew she was going to regret it, but she decided that if it made him happy, she would do it this one time. Sliding her arms around his neck, she pulled his mouth down on hers and kissed him deeply. Even after hearing her friends gasp in surprise and the guys cheering Jason on in the background, she ignored it and focused on Jason.

Jason was taken off guard at the passionate kiss that just happened. If they weren't the talk of the gym before, they definitely were now. Jason didn't care about his friends yelling, or Jess' friends surprised faces, or the other surprised faces all over the gym. He kept her hands in his, pulling back with a surprised look himself. "This is so unlike you... but I can't really complain..." He said with a smile.

Face flushed, Jessica chuckled quietly. “Well, I knew you wanted to do it, so I figured I’d give you what you want.” She could hear everyone snicker softly, and she shot them all a glare. “Oh hush, it’s been 20 years, I think we have a bit of catching up to do.”
She could hear the girls giggling, and she lifted a brow in question. “The honeymoon stage! Wonder how long it’ll last until you’re screaming at him, and he’s standing outside your house throwing pebbles at your window.” Di commented, causing the girls to start laughing.

"Knowing them they'll always be in the honeymoon stage until they fight over something lame, than the next day they'll go right back to being lovey dovey." Charlie said with a smirk. Jason shrugged and looked at her. "Sounds about right..." He said with a smile.

Jessica was half paying attention to everyone talking; her eyes were focused on a handsome brown haired man dressed in a blue military uniform that had just entered the gym. Grinning, Jessica excused herself from the table and rushed over to him. He didn’t notice her until she stopped and said. “Do I have to salute, or do friends get hugs first?”
Jessica grinned up at him the second his blue eyes turned in her direction, and he grinned back. “Why, if it isn’t the prettiest momma in the world! You’d better hug me, or else I’ll have you in the kitchen peeling potatoes.”
She had to force herself to walk and not jump up and tackle her friend, glad that he had shown up. Wrapping her arms around his stomach, she hugged him tightly, grinning when he wrapped his arms around her and kissed her cheek. “I didn’t think you’d show. I was going to call Robert and tell him you were coming, but I wanted it to be a surprise.” Jessica pulled back to stare up at the taller man, admiring how much he had changed since the last time they saw each other. Brushing her hands over his shoulder, she smirked. “Decided to go all out on, huh?” She nodded to his uniform, chuckling quietly.
“Yeah, well I figured maybe if I showed up like this everyone would leave me alone.” Placing his hands on her shoulder, he held her out to look over her. “Look at you, all dressed up. I almost didn’t recognize you. What’s it been? Three years?” David chuckled as he watched her, having relaxed the moment she approached him.
Jessica nodded, and frowned faintly. “It’s been too long. We really should make it a point to get together more often. Robert misses you, and I miss our little chats.” Jessica glanced around noticing that once again everyone was staring at her, but she shrugged it off and turned her attention back to David. Glancing over his shoulder, she lifted a brow in a question that he understood without her having to say anything. “No. I came alone. Didn’t think I was ready to broadcast it yet.”
Jessica scoffed at him. “Who cares Davey? It’s your life; forget what everyone else has to say.” Narrowing her eyes, she wagged a finger at him. “I’m still determined to meet them. If I have to fly out to Seattle, I’m going to be very unhappy.” She kept her words cryptic in case anyone was listening in on their conversation. Knowing the man in front of her better than anyone else in the room, she knew most of his secrets, and she wasn’t about to let something slip up. Smiling, she took his hand and gave it a light squeeze. “Want to come over and meet my friends?” She knew he probably wouldn’t, he wasn’t very social. She was well aware that the only reason he had shown up was to see her and visit with Robert while he had a chance.
She wasn’t surprised when he shook his head no and offered her his arm. “Nope, but how about you and I go for a walk and catch up a bit.” Leaning down, he whispered into her ear. “I need some advice.”
Nodding, Jessica turned back toward her table and motioned that she’d be back. Lacing her arm through David’s, she gestured for him to lead the way. The two walked out of the gym and headed outside where they could talk without being disturbed

Jason was beyond jealous, seeing Jessica with the handsome military man. He watched for a minute, but to keep himself from doing anything stupid he turned to see everyone staring at him. "Who is that guy?" Jason asked. His buddies shook their head, not knowing, which made him nervous. "Settle down, Jay. He's just a friend. I'm pretty sure she stated that clearly when she massaged your tongue." Ed said, which made Jason roll his eyes and look back to see Jessica leave the gym with the man.

Hearing Jason’s question, Di decided to clue him in. “That’s David Weiss, he was in our class but none of us really talked to him. He and Jess went to college together. He’s Mike’s best friend, and Robert’s godfather.”
Bethany turned to Di, with a look of confusion. “Wasn’t he the only person in the delivery room with her when she had Robert?”
Di nodded her head in response. “Yes. Her water broke at the grocery store, and when she called Mike to come take her to the hospital he refused, so David picked her up and took her. He stayed with her the whole time because Mike refused to leave work saying that babies were born every day and it wasn’t a big deal.” Rolling her eyes, Di growled loudly. Looking back over at Jason, Di shrugged. “They’re friends; at least she thinks they are. He lived with her and Mike for a few years after Robert was born and helped babysit him so Jess could go back to work. I always thought it was weird how her husband’s best friend helped her out more than her husband did, but Jess swears that he’s not interested in her and I should mind my own business.”

Jason tapped the table nervously. He has been with her more than Jason has... He wanted to help Robert and Jess in their lives, but this guy has had a head start... But Jess said she loved him... And they were just good friends... He loosened his tie a bit, getting up. "I need a drink."

Jessica having tossed her shoes somewhere on the field, was sitting barefoot on the bleachers with her legs stretched out in front of her, and holding her sides as she laughed. “And remember how he ran off crying after he tried to put Mike’s shoe in his mouth. He took one whiff and I swear I thought he was going to pass out for a second.” She said through her laughter, which made David laugh even harder, adding. “Then Mike got pissed because we were both laughing, so he stormed upstairs and slammed the door, which made it even funnier.”
Jessica sighed as she caught her breath, grinning over at David. “God, he was such a cute baby. I wanted to hug him to pieces every time he smiled at me. And that little giggle he had when he found something new. I always knew he was getting into trouble with that giggle.”
David nodded, but went silent, his face becoming serious and Jessica immediately straightened up. “Sorry, I miss having someone to reminisce about baby Robert with.” Patting the bleacher below hers, she smiled. “Take a seat and tell me what’s on your mind.”
David sat down and faced Jessica, his brow furrowing as he thought of what he was about to say. It took him a few minutes before he finally made his confession. “I’m coming out to my parents while I’m here.” He glanced up to judge Jessica’s reaction and relaxed when he saw her smiling encouragingly down at him.
“That’s great…I think. I mean, I know you’re probably a mess, but I bet you’ll feel better once it’s out in the open and you don’t feel like you have to hide anymore.” Reaching over, she patted his hand gently. “They’re your parents Davey, they’ll love you no matter what. It might be a bit of a challenge for them to accept it at first, but give them time. Besides, you know Robert and I are always there for you.”
“Speaking of Robert.” David said, giving Jessica a grin. “Where is the terror at? I’d like to stop by to see him before I go see my parents. I bet he’s huge by now.”
Jessica laughed and nodded. “He’s huge alright. He’s with my parents tonight. I’m picking him up in the morning for our little trip. He’s asked about you a lot. I told him I email you all the time and tell him you say hi, but I think he wants to talk to you himself.” When David got up, he held his hand out to help her to her feet. “You remember how to get to my parents’ house?” David nodded and smile down at her. “Yep. I’ll escort you back to the gym so you don’t get in trouble then I’ll go pay him a visit. You might want to grab your shoes though, I don’t think they allow barefoot barbarians in high school gymnasiums.”
Jessica snapped her fingers and grinned. “Damn, and here I thought I’d get away with it.”
Jessica grabbed her shoes and the two of them walked back to the gym. Before he left he gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek telling her he’d give her a call to let her know how everything went. “Remember what I said Davey boy, but I think you’ll be alright. Tell your parents I said hi.” They waved to each other and Jessica wandered back into the gym with her shoes clutched in her hands. When she got to the table she noticed everyone grow quiet as she sat down, and she looked up at them all curiously. “Did I turn green while I was gone or something? You guys are looking at me funny.”
Di leaned over to whisper in Jessica’s ear that Jay had gone off to get a drink, and Jessica frowned faintly. Sighing, Jessica nodded her head but kept silent. She figured Jason was probably upset, but she wasn’t going to talk about it in front of everyone. She’d wait till they got to her house to explain David and just hoped that Jason wouldn’t be overly jealous in the meantime.
