Pauper to King (Artsydaze & Manic Q) IC

    OOC

It's been fifteen years since you were born in this run-down orphanage and had lived in squalor surrounded by children and sullen adults in this barren wasteland that is the small planet of Osmogian, the farthest and smallest planet in the solar system of Veronelle. It's cold here, and the living is poor and miserable with the war going on outside and the poor funding received by the backwater institute.

You learned few things in your life, and are now about to be kicked out of your only home since you are now of age to make a life for yourself. Or an existence, hopefully, at least as if you don't you will die a most lonely and painful death. As you packed your meagre possession of the small kit given to all leaving child from the orphanage you wonder of what will become of you, what will you do? How will you survive in this hostile land?

It's not like you have much to your name, a blanket, two changes of tired clothing, a gourd, some ration and just enough to catch the cheapest shuttle to either the military base on the nearby asteroid or the nearby planet of Gregor, known for it's high crime rates. You can always find some work here and try to make a living for yourself, as well, you guessed.

In any case, you have better to choose soon as it's freezing outside you find as you walk away from the orphanage, never to go back.

It's currently the first year or your adventure.
It is the middle of March.
    It's windy and snowing outside.
    You are 15 years old.
You are outside the orphanage of the small dwarf planer Osmogian.
    You have 50 credits.
You have a blanket, two sets of clothes, a gourd and ration for a week.

'It's your time' The director told him 'just like everyone else's'

John wasn't paying much attention to the old man's words after that, he didn't want to leave... he didn't know what else he could do anywhere else. Pleading to stay would do him know good even if he had the courage to ask, so when the old man finished he was escorted out with all he owned to the streets of Osmogian. He had little choice here and the easy way would have been to find a corner to die on. To think about such a bleak future made him sick, he didn't want to be another one of the people who leave that home to live on the corner asking for a spare credit.

He counted out his credits and saw he had enough for at least one shuttle ride off this rock to either the nearby military base or Gregor. It dawned on him that he didn't want to be a military man with the war going on, not to mention his temper would get him kicked out moments after a drill sergeant started barking orders at him. He would board the shuttle to Gregor and see what credits he could scrape together being a package boy for one of the families.

You chose you path and made your way, shivering, to the nearest shuttle-port, using the entirety of your savings to buy a one way trip to Gregor, home of the Syndicate of Veronelle. You were led to one of the shuttle and put to sleep, your conciousness fading away in a sleeping pod, your body taken care of by the machine in a sterile and cold way until you were ready to awaken a week later. You of course did not remember the trip but awoke groggy and sullen, the first thing you saw was the dark sky of Gregor through a window in your pod. You clumsily got back to your feet and was handed your meagre belonging and sent off on your own.

Gregor was even darker than Osmogian, and was far more dangerous if you took heed to the pained screams and dark laughter permeating the underground caver leading to the city, your dark but warm home for as long as you would be stuck here. Giving one last look to the night sky in the shuttle-port's windowed arrival point, you set on to the darkly lit confines of Gregor. Inside the streets were filthy and the inhabitants either manic, miserable or hardened criminals. The city stretched as far as the eye could see as Gregor was in fact one giant underground city in a dwarf planet, warmed by it's core but inhabitable on it's surface.

You were on top of a descending staircase leading to the city proper, with a sign that claimed Gregor as the City of Dreams. What would you do in this new environment?

It's warm but very dry in here.

You are in the entryway of the city of Gregor.
    You have no more credits.

The City of Dreams, John felt a tingle of excitement as he arrived on the warm planet, already it seemed more welcoming than the place he called home for the last 15 years. Getting to Gregor was the easy part, now he needed to find employment and he didn't mind getting his hands dirty for the right people. John decided he would find a package courier service and get a job working for them, he felt it would be the best way for him to learn the streets of Gregor while collecting some credits. When he had enough he could afford a small place to get him off the streets. John knew about the high crime-rate of Gregor, but was confident he wouldn't be the victim of any kind of mugging.
