The IC thread is up:
See you folks there!
District 45, since I'm not allowed to be in any non-descript Districts.
Gunna write up a post post
So it's alrite to put character sheets without Notable Abilities, Notable weaknesses and false backgrounds as long as we share with you the secret?
I like that idea. Makes for much more interesting roleplay.
Name: Steiner Wattfiield
Gender: Y chromosome.
Race: Humankind, Experiment
Wattfield Industries - Once a household name for the rare commodity of technology. It was destroyed in the cataclysm that struck District 12. What was already a small guild of engineers is now reduced to a two-man show. Nagina Steelwise, a reknown and eccentric inventor, is the only remaining original member of the organisation while Steiner Wattfield is it's supposed rightful heir before he went missing 50 years ago. With little hope for restoring the guild's name to it's former glory, they have abandoned that notion and now use it's creations for their own reasons.
The Zealots - They have crossed paths and as the saying goes "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."
Dwarven Crafts and Foundries - The dwarves are fond of fine metalwork and the Industries used to be a common name with them.
He does not know many other people.
Physical Traits: Of average height with sideburns stretching down and across his squarish jaw, forming a short mane of bristles. His hair is a brown, swept-back mass of medium spikes that girds his face and head. Doing little to hide a pointed set of ears. Steiner is a light-skinned and rather gruff-looking man of brusque stature, his torso and large hands are scrawled with cuts and bruises, some still recent but he usually wears a shirt that covers most of it. He also stands straight most of the time, though on some occasions he will hunker over, furrow his brows and pull up a corner of his lip while glaring forward with dark red eyes. This is mostly a sign that he hasn't taken his medicine regularly and an abrupt, drastic change in appearance and behaviour is about to take place.
His choice of apparel makes him unwittingly easy to identify as someone from District Twelve, the City of Steam. Whose people there place functionality above appearances and comfort, as such his attire consists of a dark coloured shirt, a pair of similarly dyed trousers. Belts, boots, gloves, knee pads and a f itting high-collar jacket with pauldrons are part of his repetiore. Hiding a punchcard underside, a metal plate on his right shoulder bears the engineer's insignia. A silver rune-emblazoned gear with 12 teeth, each representing a code of ethic that citizens of that district follow strictly. Or at least, used to.
Notable Weaknesses: Steiner lacks tact when it comes to words, the result of having not spoken to people in a long time. Making him a poor diplomat. Caution seems inevitably thrown to the wind with him, but he takes it as something he needs to relearn in time.
Background:SpoilerEven his real age is just guesswork to him, bits and pieces seem the same when all a person has seen is the same walls and glowstone lights in a long time. Steiner remembers his name because it was written on a punchcard he managed to cling onto when he was taken away, however he inevitably lost his second name over the years. When an engineer found (and cured) him, his longest own memory was that of walking down the stairs in a mansion and seeing portraits of unfarmiliar people. She told him that he was the only son of Cidel Wattfield and that when they were younger, both of them apprenticed with the same tutor -his only parent. But that was before he was abducted, for years she had searched for him but district 12 was too messy a place and they had to give up in order to save Cidel's guild, his life's work, from ruin.
Only fifty years later, that when there was break in and subsequently several related gas explosions soon after, where she saw a monstrous creature plowing through the streets. She took a few shots at the chimera, doing little to stop it and in her panick, her eyes noticed a large scar running from his chest sideways to behind his back -the same one her colleage had from an accident years ago prior to his disappearance. So she spent days tracking and trying to get hold of the thing. Eventually administering an demutagenic antidote to it, and yet even then she barely recognized him even when he returned more or less human again. But what was even more upsetting was that he had no inkling who she was.
Steiner, having regained himself, spent a few days trying to console the Artificer, Nagina Steelwise, as best as he could, but to no avail. Years spent locked away has done a number on his ability to coax others. Eventually she told him all what she recalled about him, trying to jog his memory. And even though he learnt about his past, he was like a puzzle missing many pieces.
Still, now that he was free, he decided to rehabilitate back into society. Learning what he could of the trade and becoming a test-driver for many inventions. Steiner took in stride his heritage with a new seoncd name and to one day lead the guild as Cidel would have wanted him to if he were still alive, years passed in secret as he readied his return to Wattfield Industries ....till the catastrophe happened.
Overnight platform city became a graveyard, the factory was destroyed and their members scattered or worse, dead. A large cave-in sunk a third of district 12 into the underground caverns, leaving ruins in it's wake. With substantial evidence, Nagina concluded that this was because of the Gray Dragon the Nine Priests guarded and that this is their way of cleansing the city every now and then so that it did not overpopulate. No matter how many lives it costed.
Human enough to be driven by many reasons and the urge to do something right with his life at least once, with all he lost, he now seeks out the Nine Priests to extract an answer to all this and if need be, prevent it from ever happening again. With their deaths.
Verse 7: 12 Laws of the Steam City
"Science is made to serve Man, not the other way. As such it is he who changes the world with it, without letting it change him, who is to be respected. While he who is lost to it, exile ....... a slow death."
Kiihmblade: Steiner's khhimblade is a pneumatic (*pressure and steam based) golem named Hercules, a towering mass of brass and steel that moves by drawing on his very own life force -mimicking his movements. It is cobbled with various upgrades and functions but sits in a garage amongst other inventions, immobile till called upon. This is mostly because moving it out would take more than a few minutes and so much fuel that even Steiner would be out cold before it even got halfway across town. Hercules is heavily resistant to the magic others wield and unlike other golems it lacks real sentience of it's own.
