"Honey, be careful. Remember to mail us every two days, alright?"

The girl smiled at the older woman. "Yes, Ma," she said. Feeling a tug on her arm, she looked to her right to see a dark-haired woman frowning at her. "Jaldi karo, Kiran," she said as she started walking away.

The girl nodded, clutching her suitcase tighter. Waving goodbye at her mother, she started following the other woman down the hallway...

013 woke up abruptly, her eyes snapping open as soon as the dream had ended. Kiran...is that my name? she wondered as she sat up on her bed, looking around at the plain room that she had been occupying for months. Setting her bare feet down on the cold, tiled floor, she walked up to the mirror on the wall. Brown hair...hazel eyes...the girl in my dream sure looked like me... she thought, frowning at her reflection.

"Kiran..." she said aloud, rolling her tongue around the word. "Kiran," she said it again more firmly as she stared at her reflection. Yes...yes, it fits me! She grinned, but it soon wore away as she realized that she had no one she could share her happiness with. The woman in her dream was of course her mother and Kiran wondered if she missed her. Was she even alive?

No, no, I mustn't lose hope, thought Kiran. Her hand flitted to her collar and she tugged the metal as she did every morning, hoping it would come off. She sighed as it stayed firmly around her neck, the green light blinking every few seconds to show that she wasn't contaminated by radiation.

Freshening up, she walked out of her room to get breakfast. The masked guards at the end of every hall didn't so much as acknowledge her presence and she tried not to let it bother her. She found it strange how they silently watched everyone behind their masks. She couldn't even see where their eyes were currently looking at. It was really creepy. Shivering slightly, Kiran walked into the mess hall, which had few people this early in the morning. She glanced at the door, wondering if she'd see anyone she knew. She wasn't very close with the others, but she wanted to tell at least someone she knew that she had remembered her name. She wondered if any of their memories were coming back too.

"Good morning, 013. Would you like some pancakes today?" asked the lunch lady when she approached the food line.

Kiran opened her mouth to tell the lady her real name but closed it quickly. She had a feeling that she shouldn't. She didn't really trust the staff in the facility. Instead, Kiran smiled at the lady and nodded yes. Taking her food, she chose a table at one end of the mess hall, eating slowly as she thought over all the things she could remember - a ritual she did every morning to jog up her memory.

    1. My name is Kiran.
    2. I was born in... I'm not sure where. But I know that I'm Indian. Was I born in India?
    3. I'm probably in my twenties.
    4. I have a brother and...a sister? Yes, that other woman looked a lot like me, so she must be my sister or some relative of mine.
    5. My mother has green eyes, but I have hazel. Probably from my father.

She sighed, putting her fork down. Is that all? How disappointing. She looked up when she spotted someone she knew walking by her table. "Hey, 089, over here," she called, waving to the blonde-haired teenage girl. 089 first frowned but slowly came over. "Do I know you?" she asked, tilting her head at her.

Kiran looked at her with surprise. 089 and her had been friends ever since they came to the facility. Just yesterday she had been telling Kiran about how her memories were slowly recovering. "Yes, we're friends...don't you remember?" Kiran asked cautiously.

089 shook her head. "No," she replied. She took a seat and stared at the table, her eyes looking completely lost. "The doctor said my memory will take time to come back..."

"But you were remembering - wait, you went to the laboratory today?" Kiran asked, looking at 089 with wide eyes.

    "Yes, I did. I'm sorry I don't remember you."

Kiran felt a shiver run down her spine. They weren't scheduled for medication for two more weeks. Something wasn't right. 089 had seemed so excited yesterday that she could remember what her younger brother looked like. She had happily told the doctors that she was getting her memories back and they seemed rather...interested to know more.

Wait a second... Laboratory. Drugs. Memories lost again...

Glancing at the lunch lady, Kiran was glad that she hadn't let it slip that she had remembered her name.

009 woke up and looked around, trying to figure out where he was. The room was plain and there was nothing special about it, no pictures, nothing. It was like a hotel room, anyone could have been living there. Where am I ? Why can't I remember anything ? He rose from his bed and exited the room, he saw people with collars around their necks. Harri took his arm around his and felt the cold metal. What is this thing ? Questions kept going through his head without answers. 009 sat down, leaning back on the wall, next to his room. He tried to focus on what was going on and why he was where ever he now was.

A person wearing a mask walked up to him and grabbed his arm. The masked man looked like a guard, but why would there be guards outside his room ? " You ! Start walking towards the dining hall. Just follow the signs and you can't miss it." 009 started walking where the man had pointed towards and where the few others walked towards.

After a short walk he found himself infront of a door leading to a large room, where some people were eating. He looked around and started walking towards the line. " Goodmorning, um ... " The lunch lady tried to look at the collar around his neck, but he had his hand infront of it. As she talked he took his hand away and straightened his back. It was a reflex, something that had been thaught to him in an other life. ... Ah yes, 009 would you want some pancakes for breakfast ?"The lunch lady smiled and looked him in the eyes. " Yes ma'am . "His voice was disciplined and deep. The lady gave him a plate of pancakes and gestured him to move on so that the others could come and get their food.

009 realised he needed some answers and he looked around confused. Two girls were sitting together by a table and they were talking to eachother. It seemed like the best option to sit. He started walking towards them, but hesitated to go over. It fellt unnatural for him to have a need to sit with someone, for some unknown reason. He bit his teeth together and walked over. " Can I sit here with you ?"His eyes were looking elsewhere, as it was awkward for him to speak to another person. When he looked at them, he saw the numbers 013 on the collar of the brown haired girl.
" When you got nothing to lose. You got, nothing to lose "

Cal rolled out of bed after a "normal as normal can be in this place" kind of sleep. He rubbed his eyes to clear the away the gunk in the corners and the bits of dust that got stuck in his eyelashes. From the sleeping world to the waking world, he had to give his eyes time to adjust to the dim, though existent, light. He stumbled like a zombie up to the mirror to examine his face: the daily routine.

Well, everything is still there. He thought while brushing his hair off his face and wiping a smudge from his glasses. Same as always, I guess.

He left his room and hung a left, following a few other misfits down a hallway directed by small arrows on the wall that could've looked better had someone put a toddler in charge of that job. 002 usually made a habit of getting in the dining hall early, but today was not one of those days. People were lined up and eating already, most tables were half-filled with people that he didn't know and certainly wasn't interested in talking to, since he was about 10 years older than the average "guest." After scanning the room, he saw a couple girls at his usual table and took a seat somewhere else, with one person he knew: 094. While 094 was probably the most brain-dead person Cal had ever talked to, he knew how to make simple conversation and that was good enough.

"Morning." Cal mumbled into his hand as he covered a yawn. "Am I late or is everyone just early?"
"I don't know, Cal, but-...." 094 said before being cut off by having his shirt tugged on from across the table. At this point, he's staring into the eyes of someone that very well could be serial killer, or at least play one in a movie; it was that convincing. "WHAT?"
Oh, I don't know. Maybe you should THINK before you speak? Cal was visibly and audibly peeved, but 094 couldn't tell. That was the danger Cal faced by associating with him: he didn't know what to keep quiet.

Cal got up from the table and hopped in the line for breakfast to cool himself off. Moron. I'm not letting him screw me. I've remembered again and I will not forget.

Eira woke slowly, her eyes fluttering open as her mind began to catch up to itself. There wasn't much to catch up on really, her memories were limited to her name and a few faces that she feared she might not ever see again. She sighed and sat up, looking at herself in a small mirror that she was provided with. She recognized herself, luckily. Some mornings she had no idea who she was. This morning though she clearly remembered her own name, and recognized her own features, comparing them to a face she saw in her dreams that she could identify as her mother. She pursed her lips as she ran her fingers through her hair, before she left her room and made the familiar trip to the cafeteria.

She got into the line quietly, smiling at the lady behind the counter.
"Good Morning twenty-three, pancakes?" She asked cheerfully. Eira nodded, cringing at the use of her other name then turned to find a place to sit down. She recognized 13, but wasn't sure if 13 would recognize her. She shrugged to herself and walked over, sitting down and smiling to those who were there.
"Morning," She said gruffly before stuffing a forkful of pancakes into her mouth. She chewed, then looked at the others sitting at the table. She didn't recognize 89, but saw the number on her collar. Number 9 she sort of recognized, but she didn't really trust her own memory, she had probably met everyone in here she just didn't remember it.

037 was sitting at a table on his own, absent-mindedly poking at a small tray of pancakes with his fork as he read a book. His eyes skimmed through the pages, seemingly in a hurry to finish it as if it were an over-due homework assignment. In reality though, he was just a speed reader. Usually, if he read through a book too fast then he wouldn't be able to retain much, but not this time. For some reason, he was pretty much understanding what he was reading, despite it being a college-level book. It was almost like he'd read it before, but he just couldn't put his finger on when. The thought seemed strange to him, seeing as apparently college wasn't around anymore above ground, which meant otherwise he must have thought he'd been going crazy even before when he had his memories.

Schizophrenia was an all new topic to him, and had been recommended by a "neighbor" cell mate. He'd confided in the guy next door that he'd been hearing voices in his head since the day after he'd been brought to this place. The voices never told him to do anything, they were just there, as if he had a bunch of multiple personalities in his head, each with their own thoughts and desires. And boy, did he here a lot of those. With the "symptoms" he gave, his neighbor told him the best thing to do was research mental diseases, perhaps get a book from the library. And so, he did. For whatever reason, the book on Schizophrenia jumped out at him, so he checked it out and took it with him to the cafeteria. At first, he had been starving, but the more he read, the less hungry he felt.

He stopped reading for a moment so he could take a small break to rub his eyes. He didn't know how long he'd been reading but if his cold pancakes and strained eyes told him anything, it was that he had been reading for a long time. He stretched out a bit, hearing slight pops in his back as he straightened himself out...and then he heard something else. Whispering...he looked around himself real fast, and when he didn't see anybody near him he knew it was starting again. At first, it would be whispers, then quiet covsersations...and then he could hear all of them talking, as loud as the cafeteria was with nearly everyone talking at once.

"No...not now," he moaned quietly, his hands pushing up against his eyes, "Please, just stop..." It didn't. The voices got louder, as per usual. He put his head down and whimpered quietly, not because of the pain (as it did cause severe headaches at times), but at the thought that he was slowly going insane. He wanted to tell somebody, but he didn't know how. He thought the maybe the staff could help, but...

'Moron. I'm not letting him screw me. I've remembered again and I will not forget.'

"Huh? What?" That voice was new. He heard new voices every so often, but he usually put them aside with the rest of the group. One way to know that a new one was there was that they would announce "I want my memory back," but then turn into the mindless talk that it usually was. Not this time though. This was the first time he heard a voice say something even remotely forceful. Usually, they were all passive, though at times primal. This, however, was something completely different. He didn't know why he was so, how could you describe it, excited to hear this new, different voice. He wanted to hear more, but he had no idea how to filter out the voices. A bit defeated, he put his head back down and concentrated, hoping he could hear that voice again.
It's great to be back. I almost forgot how much fun this can be.

Waking Jain or 111 as she was called here.was listening as two Mexican ladies chatted about who's son was the best and how one day they'd move back to Mexico if things didn't improve soon.
The conversation ceased when she got out of bed only to be replaced by three men who were now wiring her lights up as she walked past them. Exiting her room she saw other workmen in the hall installing doors, lights and even tiny cameras.
111 walked past the guards that had been present since she'd woken up here yet somehow she hid the fact she was observing all this activity because she knew if she revealed it then they'd think her unbalanced.
Upon entering the cafeteria she encountered a level of activity that made her move with cautition so that she'd not bump into any of the real people. Her cautious movements made her appear clumsy and confused,
Reaching the serving counter she slowly advanced towards the people doling out the food annd was revolted by the caked on food she saw on her tray till she ran her hands over it and felt nothing she saw.
Greetings 111, so glad to see you up an around, what would you like to eat
After asking for several things they didn't have even though she saw them she just asked the lady to pick her out something.
Once she had her tray filled she felt her way to a nearby table and sat staring hoping the images would shift, her food appeared uncooked or to be still cooking and mixed with the remains of her previous meals
Sorry all my friends but I had to run to Peru where my uncle was working a dig.
His plane was lost in the Cordillera Negra in the Ancash Region Andes. Thank the Lord and Lady he was found safe though slightly injured.

Kiran still felt rather bewildered at her revelation. Was what she had figured out really true or was she just freaking out over nothing? Sure, the staff seemed suspicious but what was so special about them that their memories had to be erased?

089 was fidgeting in her seat. "I'm just going to go. I don't remember you..." With that, she suddenly stood up and walked away, leaving Kiran staring after her helplessly. The one friend she had made, the only person who seemed to be getting their memories back like her, had disappeared. She sighed, feeling a bit lonely.

She was jolted out of her thoughts by a voice. "Can I sit here with you ?" Looking up, Kiran saw a rather muscular man with dark brown hair and...red eyes? She had never seen red eyes before. Glancing at his collar, she saw that he was number 009. "Sure," Kiran replied, smiling at him. "Were you brought here today?" she asked him. A part of her knew that that was a pointless question. What if he was brought here months ago but he didn't remember it? Still, she found the need to ask him that, having never seen him before.

A brown-haired girl also joined their table and Kiran greeted her with, "Morning, twenty-three." Leaning over to her, she whispered, "Do you...remember anything?" Kiran glanced around the room, hoping no guards would hear their conversation.

A man walks in a car shop. He had green eyes and a dark blond hair. A large black man greets him, as they both shake hands and hug each other.

"Good you finally arrived brotha. We fixed your ride. Be more careful next time you race okay?" Said the black man.

"Look who's talking about beying careful. Or do you want me to remind you what you did to your car in your last race Wesley?" Said the other guy to the black man, who's name was apparently Wesley.

"Screw you man!" Said Wesley as they both started laughing.

"So where's everyone else?" Asked the man.

"Gone! I wanted to leave too but not before you would show up. Okay, so i'm off. See ya tonight. Peace!" Said Wesley as the two men shook hands, with Wesley leaving afterwards.

    _______________________________________

065 woke up abruptly as he took a deep breath afterwards. He had another memory flash again. He started to have many in the last few weeks but he kept it all to himself. He wakes up from the bed as he goes to the bathroom and looks deeply into the mirror with his hands against the wall. "Wesley! Who are you huh?" After washing his face and teeth and getting out of his pijamas, putting some clothes on, 065 gets out of his room, destination cafeteria. He looked distrustful and hateful at the guards as he bypassed all of them. "Good morning 065! Would you like some pancakes???" Asked the lunchlady. 065 nodded his head, approving, took his tray and fork and sat on a table. While he was eating, 065 overheard a girl, 013, that was sitting exactly behind him, greeting others that came and sat at her table, a guy and another girl. Among other things, she silently asked the other girl if she remembers anything. 065 takes his tray and goes to the table where she was and sat next to her, pretending he was eating. "I remember a few things." Said 065 while placing a piece of pancake in his mouth with the fork and looking around at the guards.

111 eats her meal she hopes alone but because there are people sitting either side of her. And berfore she checked someone sitting where she now sits she can only guess
She knows she's not crazy but still doubts even that, then for some strange reason she's being held by a policeman who's trying to comfort her as she cries
It's alright Jain he's going to be put away for a long time because of you, with the evidence you've found his lawer will have to plea barrgin or his client will get the injection he deserves
When she snaps back into reality she's crying as horid images flash through her mind, she must have wittnessed a murder an that's why she's unbalenced and seeing things she tells herself. What she doesn't understand is why she just sat and watched as the sick man did unspeakable things to the three young girls
Looking down at her food her tears spatter the table as she tries to steady her breathing and decides she can't eat anymore so she pushes her tray across the table not caring if the man sitting across from her is real or not then lays her head on the table as she watches the trial.

Cal got his breakfast from line and went back to sit with 094. Taking time to walk around and get his mind cleared calmed him down quite a bit after how frustrated 094 made him.
"Look, 094, I'm sorry. You have to know why I was upset by now, right?" Cal asked him, while looking pitifully into his tray of slightly warm hash browns.
"Yea, 002, I know. I'm not as dumb as you all think I am." 094 responded. At this point Cal was looking wide-eyed at 094, who could very well have been a completely different person. "I know who you are..." 094 continued with his decibel level increasing with each word, "AND I KNOW WHO I AM! I am Jonas Holfeld!"

Before Jonas could continue, and before he could get any more attention, the guards came rushing over and dragged him out of the cafeteria. Luckily for them the table was not far from an exit and they were quick to take him away before too many people could get a grasp on the situation. One of the guards went over to Cal and asked him what "Number 094 was yelling about." Cal knew this could mean trouble for him too, so he had to respond, "Oh, him? I don't really know. I tuned him out as he got louder; I kind of just assumed he was developing a case of cabin fever, or something." Hopefully he buys it.

"Ok, 002, thanks. That's probably all it was; we'll get him all calm down." The guard said as he scampered off.

Cal was pleased and let out a long sigh. It probably helps that most of the guards seem to be afraid of me; to some extent, at least. He thought to himself. I wonder if I've given them reason to fear me?

Cal finished up with his half-eaten hash browns and wandered around the cafeteria. Just another part of his daily routine before the morning workout.

But more importantly, who the hell is that Jonas guy?
