    Rogue trader? Rogue trader.

So it's been ages since i have been on here, but i was interested in running a rogue trader game.
I already run a rouge trader game for a group of friend IRL on weekends, and have done alot of gming IRL. but it has been a while since i have done it online, still easy enough.
The games i was thinking of running would be going off the modules i have already run for my other group..mabye, to see if characters make the same mistakes or worse ones, perhaps better choices, and online there is a bigger opportunity for people to really let there creative side go, there is none of the awkwardness in gaming groups, or maybe i will think up my own homebrew game, though i would much rather run the modules.
So, are there any 40k fans out there, who preferably don't know the modules (Can't really police this) And know 40k universe well enough to brave the long, dark void of the koronus expanse.
    For glory and gain!

    You have my power sword

“Enemies of the Imperium, hear me. You have come here to die. The Immortal Emperor is with us and we are invincible. His soldiers will strike you down. His war machines will crush you under their treads. His mighty guns will bring the very sky crashing down upon you. You cannot win. The Emperor has given us his greatest weapon to wield. So make yourselves ready. We are the Imperial Guard, and your doom is upon you. "

So, first to post, first choice. Will you sir, be the rogue trader and lord captain? will you lead your men through the trials and travails of all that the expanse can throw at you, and return with a profit...and a story.
    What say you?

I say aye, I shall take my warrant of trade across this galaxy to the furthest reaches from which no human has seen. I will bring terror to those who oppose me, and wealth to those who follow. From aboard my flagship a thousand ventures shall be launched and thousand successes returned.

    I say, let it begin.

While I do want to be the Rogue Trader if anyone else wants to be really badly I would not actually mind stepping aside. Also, just so you know do to my work schedule if we only do this on weekends I can only do this ever other weekend.

And so it begins, a new dynasty, a new frontier!
Now, i just have to noodle out how exactly i'm going to run this game, can't exactly use die rolls and character sheets like normal rogue trader...
Also, i would like people to generally post around a paragraph of whatever descriptive writing they want to do, talking etc. Then post what there game actions are I.E, aim, charge all those kinds of things. Or perhaps all based of descriptive, not sure as i said it's been a while.
As for my time zone i'm in Australia, but i have more than enough time to do this, and am fairly excited for it. I'm hoping for a group of around 4-6 players on here, i Gm for a group of 8, but online is slower and can be harder to keep track of sometimes, as i said it's been a while.
But now, all we have to do is wait!
Hopefully we can get a concise group together. So the position for rogue trader has been filled!

Ah, just noticed your post below there, i'm not really sure how the times will really work...
I can easily get in at least a post a day, even more if people are on at the same time. Do you mean you can only post every second weekend?

We actually could do this with die rolls, rolld20.net is site I have used before for DnD and I know a few other people who have put together TT RPing groups on here before and can ask them what they use depending on if you want to to use a virtual tabletop or if you want to just have a check that you can use rolls on.

Oh, I thought you were putting together like a group for roleplaying in real time with this, if it is just a normal roleplay then I can usually post at least once per day.

Wasn't aware that you could put real time groups over the net...I have not played online in a while, too long.
I was going to just use the forum posting site, not sure what would be better. with time zones and all that real time might be a pain, and i'm usually busy on the weekends, i have a game every other Friday that i play in (dark heresy) My rogue trader game usually on sundays, a game every now and then on saturdays (pathfinder) and another pathfinder game every Wednesday. so i was thinking that forum posting would work better, but ill hear out the players when/if we get them. As for rolling i was considering rolling for the characters with skull roller, but i don't think that would be best, and i will need a list of actual character sheets, or all the information that they have on them, to keep track of everything. but as for actual attack rolls, not too sure. Most methods online i have come across, the character just kinda says what hes doing, and i determine if the npc blocks or his hit and how badly etc

Alright so it will be normal posting just you say what happens, I have done one like that before and was honestly the most successful online campaign I have been in. Though it did help that at the time we had dice rolls on the site. If we are going to be using the rulebooks and basically be playing the RPG then I would probably want to use character sheets and dice rolls but if it is more freeform than that then probably not. For dice rolls I have heard good things about invisiblecastle and have used rolz before and it worked very well once you figure out how to use it.

Tough decision really, to use proper character sheets and the rule books and stuff like that, using a rolling system or just me decide everything. Kinda doesn't seem right that i would decide everything, though i know how that's how most of them go on here...
I mean i would not want to destroy the characters, but not let them win without a challenge, but it would not "really" be a challenge...

What if i had the players type down what they rolled...I know something like that would be very easy to fake and cheat. It could be the best way though, but could also provide complications.

So i'm thinking the free form way would be the smoothest flowing, and i could simply determine the success or failure of there actions depending on how they do it, the enemy they are facing and all that. On my end i would have it all set up like the proper one, have characters make the profiles, simply to keep track of the important things that i will use to determine things, and keep track of wounds, weapons and all that. It could be a nice blend of free form but also using the rules to a small degree.
What do you think? in my mind this might be the best way to run it, and i am a fair Gm, having done it a long time and having run through the adventures we will be doing before i'm confident in my abilities to run it like this, i am open to opinions though.

But keeping with the free form style, the players would decide whether or not there characters get hit etc. Using that way of running things will simply be creating a story, which i think will be an epic story

On here most GMs have their own characters and are part of the RP as well, you could do that and we would entirely ditch the RPG itself and pretty much just use the setting which would be the most freeform with everyone deciding if they hit anything and if they get hit. Also, rather than people just write down in the OOC what they rolled you could use Rolz or invisiblecastle.

I am personally fine either way with freeform or using the rules, though I think you should also decide if we get hit if you decide if we hit and you could do things like PM stuff to people like if they got hit and how bad so then they write out in their next post their character getting wounded.
