Is the amount of land being readjusted? Does my suggestion of the area from Stony Shore to Sea Dragon Point seem reasonable? It's a sizeable chunk of land and not mentioned in the canon as being governed by a particular House. It would fit in nicely bordering Glover and Tallhart land to the east in Deepwood Motte and Torrhen's Square respectively and Ryswell land to the southeast in The Rills. The area also provides the option for naval warfare as in the series; a theme which I'd like to explore with my character: our lord's brother and commander of the House's fleet. Another bonus could be a tension between us and House Greyjoy following the defeat of their rebellion four years prior to the start of this RP

In regards to the stats vote, I go for wealth and power. Wealth provides all the other stats in my opinion. Power makes for a tasty bit of conflict >=]

Yeah, I bumped down the text to read that you had lands comparable to the Greyjoys and that seems to fit with having the stretch from Stony Shore to Dragon Point.

Duly noted about the interest in some past conflict with the Greyjoy rebellion. I think that's a good place for some completely lovely things to start happening from, heh.

So, in terms of the bonus, we've got votes for defense and law, land and power, defense and power, wealth and power. Meaning defense and power are the two most popular thus far. Shall I go ahead and apply the bonus there?

"Fealty. Such an ugly word. At least in Volantis, we are honest about our slaves."

    Name: Pellaquo Estyr

    Gender: Male

    Age: ~19

Appearance: Purplish eyes and silverish hair; generally average sized; has darker skin than his northern cousins; straight nosed; tends to wear the more extravagant, colourful and silky clothes of the Free Cities, apparently to stand out from the others, though he wears standard fare when training - light armour, mostly leather, etc).

Line of Succession: 890573406905869586986908 (well, impossible to tell without figuring out the whole family tree, but probably quite far?)

Role: Vassal to the Lord of the House

    Edge: Military brilliance?

    Flaw: Pride

Secret: This I am working on.

Personality: While apparently cool and collected, he obviously has some issues. Pellaquo is often derisive in his speech towards others, and is especially arrogant of his heritage compared to that of others. Thus, he naturally looks down on his Westerosi cousins, who he often views as backwards. He is not so open about himself (who is?), but to say he is suited to the rampant politicking of the Westerosi nobles wouldn't be quite accurate. However well he is cut out for snide remarks and conversation, he is rarely good at flattery and doesn't know so well how to sneakily plan for these kinds of things. He is, however, quite determined in most of what he does and is a bit of a romanticist.
Equipment: He has a slim sword crafted of Valyrian steel, which he holds very dear. He has some pretty standard armour - mostly leather, with not so substantial plate (he fights in an Eastern style not suited to heavy armour, you see). Nothing else of particular note, though his mother carries a number of rare artifacts.

Backstory: Lord [Rensyn] had a certain (first) cousin who was ill suited to both court life and professional, Westerosi-style military leadership. This cousin ran off to adventure in the East, joining a mercenary company and visiting all the Free Cities and beyond. At some point, he pursued Lady Istenna - a daughter of a then-Triarch of Volantis with strong Valyrian blood, residing behind the Black Wall. And somehow, the brash, rogue minor Northern Westerosi lord ended up marrying the high standing Volantine woman. That somehow was of course that her marrying him was much less of a scandal than her birthing a bastard. However, while he was still young - perhaps seven or eight years of age - his father died on campaign of dysentery. Not long after began Robert's Rebellion in Westeros, and not long after that, the Lady Dowager, Istenna, decided it were best she leave Volantis for her husband's land. She claimed she was consumed by grief by her husband's death and could not bear to live in the city they had shared, and made a good show of it by moving first to Tyrosh, then to Dorne, then to King's Landing, but most likely she has ulterior motives.

Some five years ago, she moved to [Castle Rensyn]. Here, Pellaquo continued to study as he had in his previous residences, learning about history and language, law and command, swordplay and horsemanship. In all his time in Westeros, he has come to greatly dislike the people. This is with the exception of the maesters, for whom he has great respect. Indeed, were he to die now, one of his great regrets would be that he never even visited Oldtown.

In his time at [Castle Rensyn], he has played his part and looked to fit his station. He has mostly avoided the heir to his Lord's position, Guyard. They both share a certain military quality, and a clash is not something he desires. He does not think Guyard feels the same way, however.

He has developed a love for military strategy and wishes sincerely to foster it and hold some sort of command in the future. He suspects hi mother has designs for him, but he dares not question it. He has wanted, in the last couple of years, to broach the subject with his Lordship, but has never found the time right nor the courage ready.

Incidentally, both Pellaquo and his mother are followers of R'hllor (the Red God). Pellaquo puts no great stock in any worship of any God, though he might be seen sitting in the godswood by the heart tree [assuming we have one], or staring into a fire in the evening. When he questioned his mother when she declared they were moving, she always claimed she had seen their new destination in the flames.

    ---

I suppose I shall write a little about Istenna at some point.

And these names for northerners don't sound all that northern. Everyone shoudl so go with more northern names ... they're so normal. Look what I had to coem up with to make my names sound Volantene

edit: in response to above posts ... I like the idea of my character wanting to have a command of some of the soldiers on land, and getting the captaincy of a ship instead

(I don't think Guyard sounds like a very northern name, but that's just my opinion . . .)

Well I noticed that in the north they had names like Rickard, Roose, Ramsay, Ned, Bran, and Rodrik. I just thought Guyard looked good on that list. Most of whats in my profile I considered for a while and decided "This is what is most likely to happen in the north".

Yeah they tend to be something fairly northern European sounding, like Rickard, Ramsay, Brandon which are all fairly normal names (Germanic, Nordic, Irish or English) and then fairly close variations on such names, like Eddard (which is more or less Edward/Edouard etc) and Rodrik (which is more or less Roderick).

Acknowledgedly, there's Sansa and Arya who don't obey the pattern, but Guyard is kind of a Francophone name isn't it? It crops up from other locations in ASoIaF though (there was one from the Stormlands).

I didn't think about the real life roots of it, but I didn't think it was that big of a deal. In ASoIaF all the family members have similar names but that's hard to do when I'm the first one with a bio. Anyway, as I said anything in my bio can change except for his role in the family and in the line of succession I'm willing to fix it to match the rp whenever and wherever needed.

I think we should decide on a definite House name as there seems to be disagreement, a coat of arms, the name for our stronghold, and perhaps a motto like Starks' "Winter is coming". Here are some I'll throw into the mix :
Names - Nightley, Dullen, Rustwater, Narwell
Coat of Arms - an aquatic creature perhaps, considering we're situated on the western coast, like a shark or whale? (a narwhal or ancient-looking seahorse came to my mind)
    Stronghold - Brinetide, Stormgate, Hailshore
Motto - something blunt and dark as seems to be the theme in northern Houses, like, "The tides stop for no man" or, "Awash in blood and water"

I like Nightley, and I like the stronghold name Hailshore. As for the coat of arms, perhaps we'd use something like a Tower or a Sword. Or, we can use an idea I used in a story. A full black banner with nothing on it, it's like because White means retreat, black would be the opposite.

As for a motto It's got to represent us. The tides stop for none would be good, or Heroes Yet Live. Maybe even Peace from Power.
