Yeah, this definitely looks interesting. I'll probably wait for you to iron all the details out before I start making my character.
Traditionally the black flag isn’t no surrender. It’s kill everyone no prisoners, no mercy. Flying the black flag is supposed to be one of the worst things anyone can do. So it would be diplomatically difficult. Plus it defeats the whole purpose of a coat of arms or any badge, it’s easy to miss in bad weather it’s indistinct. I’ll crack out my old heraldry books and draw something up once the family history has been decided. After all history often has an impact on the coat of arms. Same for the motto, lets wait until the history has been fully fleshed out before we decide upon it.
Addition by edit: Also might I request that you make Guyard Rensyn older. The reason I say that is 17 makes all other family options very limited. One you can only really have one younger sibling who is old enough to do anything of interest and aside from the lord and the lord's siblings no one else can be much older. All the lord's brothers will be younger than the lord and so their children likely will be as well. I might be wrong but it seems like you are really stunting the realistically playable family tree by being 17.

Okay well like I said, it's hard when I put up the first Bio. I made him seventeen because that's when people really start doing stuff, but I guess I'll just remove my bio for now until everything is sorted out and put it back up when the history, name, and coat of arms is decided.
Edit: Okay I deleted my bio. I'll repost it when everything is set in stone and I'll make Guyard like twenty five?
Thanks to Lillian, the queen of thorns for making this. (If you understand the joke I applaud you)
Hello,
May I join? Currently I am reading the first book in the series, so I have a basic understanding of it. I might play a character who is either an uneducated servant or someone too self-centered/vain/something (?) to care about the minor details of the politics. This is basically because I'm just getting into the series and from what I've heard the political aspect of the it is quite large. I'm assuming that unless you've read a few of the books the whole political side of things would be pretty complicated, and I am just in the middle of the first book.
Do you think this would be the best route being that I don't know as much about the politics as everyone else? That was just the main thing I was uncertain about, because I love the whole political side of fantasy books/series.
Then, I don't know if this is already decided or not, but I like KrazyWolf's suggestion of the name 'RustWater' and Narwhal as the animal. Maybe we could use an Antelope or pair of antlers. Or maybe a cup/goblet? Just throwing some ideas out there.
For the house name, I'd go with Rustwater or Vilewater. It's not that it's even the best sounding name out there, but I have this picture of a sinking ship as our coat of arms and it goes well with. I don't remember seeing that anywhere and it would make for interesting pleasantries as it could likely imply that we were once pirates before becoming a noble house. As for the name of our stronghold... well it could be whatever you people can cast your vote on, I'll agree with the majority as this doesn't really seem all too important to me. My choice of a stronghold name would be Plunderkeep, again since I'm all warm and tingly to the fact that we might've been pirates once. :P And motto, well the one with tides seems fitting to me.
So my thoughts in summary:
Name: Vilewater/Rustwater (the former sounds better imo)
Coat of arms: A sinking ship in a field of whatever color
Stronghold: Plunderkeep
Motto: The tides stop for no man
Alright that's it from me for now. Also, unless the Lord himself has already been claimed, I'll do it.

I quite like Rustwater as a name. It suits us and it really rolls off the tongue. I also like the idea that Narwell could come from 'never well' (-->ne'er well -->nar well --->Narwell)/
A 'horned whale' would be nice (makes it sound more mystical, huh?) for our CoA.
I like Stormgate, but it feels too much like Storm's End? The other suggestions are nice too, but anyone else got any ideas?
"The tides stop for no man" seem to be best for our words. IF we're people who live on the coast and have often been troubled by the iron islands, we would be used to both the actual brutality of the sea and the brutality of the people upon it, no? It would pretty much sum us up.
By the way, all your suggestions are really awesome![]()
The sinking ship also sounds pretty cool. What about a sinking ship with the figurehead of a Narwhal on it?
Maybe we could incorporate Mist or Fog into the stronghold's name, those two words tend to pop into my mind when I think about an ocean. How about Coldmist or Mistrust (I didn't realize until I typed it that MistRust would turn into Mistrust, highlight of my day).
I actually like Mistrust quite a lot!And you just made my day too.
The general consensus seems to be erring towards:
Name - Mistrust (my vote; awesome pun) or Rustwater
CoA - Narwhal or Sinking Ship. I again like Mikipi's suggestion of a sinking ship with a narwhal figurehead bringing the two together.
Motto - Everyone appears to be content with "The tide stops for no man" so shall we set that in concrete?
Stronghold - no one seems to care about this haha. One vote for Plunderkeep, Stormgate and Hailshore. I vote for Hailshore as it ties in connotations of a coastline that has been harried by many battles, bringing in the potential Greyjoy plotline and perhaps giving insight into a pirating root to our House if others want to pursue that notion.
I'd like to switch my vote to Mistrust as well. Everything else seems just fine. So should we go forward to other prominent parts of the House? We still need to decide history for example.
