Matthew Collins never was an ordinary person, he was a former agent for the Secret Intelligence Service or MI6 as some people called it. He really didn't care about the name, he was in it for the action. Those were the best days of his life, constantly on the move, working on some new case and the best part, getting the bad guy in the end. He loved it, maybe a bit too much, but back then he could say that he had the job he always wanted to have. There was never a day he regretted being part of the Secret Intelligence Service, and if given the chance he would easily go back. He was probably one of the only people that could say he enjoyed the whole lifestyle associated with the job as well. He remembered hearing all the older agents talk and complain about how they wanted to go back and have a normal life. He really didn't care, a normal life would never compare to being a secret agent.
Matthew was now expected to live a normal life, he had been forced to retire. A horrible accident during an attack on an international threat, he ended up getting caught and tortured. It wasn't like it left mental scars, it was more like they enjoyed cutting into him to try and get him to talk. In the end it left him with a messed up knee on his right leg, and a nice scar on his face. It wasn't like his knee was that badly injured he didn't have to walk with a cane all the time, and it was only occasionally that the pain in his knee was too bad for him to walk. He could have still gone on, but the boss wanted him to retire because of the whole incident and make sure he got help in case there was any mental scars. He hadn't even been captured for that long, it had only been a few hours or so, he couldn't really remember how long, after losing a great deal of blood one normally passes out.
So, now Matthew had to live this regular life that really wasn't something he enjoyed doing at all. He didn't get too much money to live on for the rest of his life, so he had been living in a flat that was probably older than he was, but that wasn't too hard he was only twenty eight. He still was positive that place was infested with rodents of some sort and he didn't trust the water. It had so many health violations that it was a surprise he was even living there. It wasn't a place he would have liked to live, but at the moment it was all he could do with the little bit of money he had. He was looking for a different place and a new job, but things just didn't like going his way. He wasn't as lucky as he used to be and it didn't help that the jobs he applied for really didn't like the fact that he was crippled or the scar on his face wasn't something people really found enjoyable. It wasn't even that bad, it was just a diagnol cut to his cheek that happened to be quite noticeable.
Matthew decided that today, he was going to answer to one of the ads in the newspaper about someone wanting a flat mate. He figured that it would be in his budget and he could deal with another person. He found the address and now stood right at the door, he knocked three times and waited for an answer. His brown hair still a little messy from a rude awakening that morning and his clothes a little wrinkled from the rush to get out of that place as fast as possible. He still didn't let that get him down too much, his green eyes were bright with excitement on getting at least something nice for a change as he waited for the door to be answered.
