hey, there! i am very interested but i want to run the alien race i have in mind by you before i decide:

name: Gels
general outlook on society: the Gels are a hyper-intellectual race, as their entire bodies serve as their brain. they do not really mind other races beliefs as long as it does not interfere with their well being.
Form: a single Gel is actually comprised of billions of single celled organisms linked together on the molecular scale. this makes them amoebic and as such they can approximate any shape. their "skin" cells are a slightly mutated form which can change the pigmentation of their membranes, though they cannot do it perfectly and are always semi-transparent. their "blood" is a different form which carries oxygen from the membrane cells to the rest of the body.
Abilities: they can receive and output electrical impulses, which is what their technology is based off of. they can absorb nutrients from anything they touch, though they refrain from eating sentient beings out of principal.
Language: the Gels communicate with each other through touch and therefore have not developed their own spoken or written language. they have developed a universal translator which "learns" a language from another race and allows them to communicate.
reproduction: Gels reproduce by fission, splitting into two beings when they grow large enough. each half retains the memories and personality of the whole, which means that each gel can remember all the way back from the beginning of their race.

i just had a brain flash. since the Gels are hyper-intelligent, and can interface with technology, a Gel character could act as a ship's AI.

Hm... the Gels are interesting, but they might need a good backstory to explain how they have interstellar star travel. Intelligence is one thing, but it's hard to develop technology without the ability to manipulate your environment (such as with hands).

Achenarans would classify it as slavery to make a sentient race into a ship's AI... generally ship AI are not fully sentient, and housed in quantum neural net computers. Slavery is illegal in all of the Imperium.

i have two good resposes to this. answer one: the Gels can manipulate their environment. just because they are amoebic doesn't mean they cant touch things. in fact, because they are amoebic, they can form multiple hands for themselves, remember that they can approximate any shape. and also they could have formed a symbiotic relationship with another race that had developed intergalactic travel.
answer two: it wouldn't be slavery. it's hard to force a Gel to do anything, because they can change their form and output electrical impulses. the Gels would * volunteer* to be a ships GI (or Gel Interface) because in doing so they will get information on other races *and* a new body. it would be a mutually beneficial relation-ship (if you will pardon the bad pun)

It takes muscle and bone to really manipulate something... an amoebic shape doesn't have any real strength behind it. They can change forms slightly, but they're still squishy. The symbiotic relationship seems more likely, though... possibly another race from the same planet might have a long-lasting relationship with the Gels where they Gels do the science and the other race does the manual labor.

The GI might be interesting, but they'd still probably require the assistance of the quantum neural net computer. Could be a possible experimental project that they're working with, actually. Since the Imperial Academy is all about trying new things, it's possible that some of the training ships might be testing out the GI-AI symbiosis project.

sounds good. remember for the neural network, the Gels can receive and output electrical signals, which makes them perfect organic interfaces for computers.

Race Name: Erebunites
Physiology:They are tall and furred, they have four horns, two prominent above the snout and brows, and another pair located just before the pair of ears. They are feline and have four ears altogether two on each side, they have large claws on both their hands and feet. They are digit-grade bipedal, and they are somewhat hunched. Their fur ranges in a manner of patterns and colors. They have many dental platforms aswell some with smaller neater teeth, others with big, bulky, out of line forms. They can be extremely buff, or very slender. They stand anywhere between 6' and 7'5" tall.
Technological Premise: They work with the same technology as the other empires and use it with ease, while they are not entirely accepted as Empirial Race, they do have a large number of them inside Achenaran Space.
Combat tactics and Advancements: They have made use of the new technology in a manner of unqiue ways, such as small mounted turret-like guns placed upon the armor of the large Erebunites. They also have made advancements in melee specifications and have created a larger range of them allowing for a more preferable pallet.

Keep in mind that while there are many races in the Achenaran Imperium, all of them benefit from advanced Achenaran technology. However, it's quite possible for someone from a foreign empire to desire Achenaran citizenship and move to the Imperium, so they can be from a different background as well.

My race is finished, I have set them to simply fit into the universe, no need for a major background of the races history.
