The beast studied the girl carefully as she dug her fingers deep into the wound, retrieving the slug that caused him to first find her. The same smell of blood Asterion caught the night before returned, stinging his nostrils to the point of annoyance. She stood there, panting... staring at the same rough floor she had slept only hours ago. The bit of blood that did come out of the girls hand had made its way down her arm, hitting the chipped rock floor after flowing off her fingers. Asterion gazed at the growing spot with concentration only matched when the beast was executing a hunt. The sun shining in from the entrance made it glisten beyond the point of recognizing, Almost blending into the dark grey rock underfoot. The beast looked up from the blood spot, and his eyes met the suns bright rays again, causing him to squint and move closer to a nearby stalagmite for cover.
Asterion looked towards the girl, holding herself up weakly, still panting from the intense pain. The bullet slug below her caught the sunlight, still covered in blood, misshapen and small. The beast had never seen a gun, let alone a bullet, in his just under two hundred years of life. Still parched, and growing more impatient by the second, the beast trotted towards the girl with contempt. Uncurling the fingers in his dense fist, the beast wrapped them around the still shaken up girl, and threw her over his shoulder. A quick trip to the river shouldn't pose too many problems. The beast couldn't leave the girl behind in fear that she could be eaten by another animal before he returned. If she ever decided to run, Asterion promised to himself to show no mercy and consume her on the spot, full belly or empty. The beast sort of hoped she did. Human meat and a nice drink at the river? Asterion could think of worse things he had done with his time. With haste, the beast rushed out of the cavern entrance, with the girl over his shoulder, and started his trip towards the river.
