The history is always the hardest part for me, probably because it's the most important in defining who that character will be in the first post. Sometimes I'll take a day just to figure out what I want it to be, and even thought I know pretty much all of it (in my head) at the start of the RP, there's room for change and adaption depending on how the story plays out and what their role is in it.
I make the written history vague (even though it might not seem vague at times, it really is) but in my head I have every little detail. And same here Clirkus, I can't post until I know what my character is thinking and feeling in the moment and I also have to refer to it's past to judge how it will behave.
I generally have a very specific idea of what my character would do in any given situation. I don't need to (and actively dislike) actually writing down my character on a CS.

I think making a CS is fun, but I'm never sure how much of the history to put in. Sometimes I'll go back and edit it if I forgot something important, but usually once I get the CS down I don't even look at it.

On the site that I used to RP on before finding RPG, I recall my villain skinning a character alive in front of the others behind reinforced glass to prove a point, as he tapped out and hummed Shave and a Haircut with the shaving razor he used. I like playing the bad guys, I just never usually get the chance in RP's on here.
Even then, you have to follow specific guidelines. The entire plot set forth by that RP allowed whomever was the villain (and I got the part) to basically have free reign of the characters at specific points. It was really a Role Playing Game. It was a bit like Rabbit Doubt, only, in RP form.
The GM and I spent some time near the beginning using a floor plan layout (including individual layouts for each and every room) of the mansion/university/whatever it was to decide where certain traps and things would be sprung on the characters. If a character wandered into one, they would sometimes have a chance to escape, but would usually fall victim to the trap, or myself. Most fun part was I got to write all of the death posts since I was the one who was allowed to come up with most of the traps.
The one where I skinned the guy was literally just the dumbass sitting down in an old armchair that then sprung a hook that dug into his back, keeping him from pulling away from the chair. My villain followed suit with rope to tie his arms and legs down. Then the others got to watch from the adjacent hallway from a one-sided mirror as I turned their friend into a carpet.
I played this weird sadistic bad guy in an rp with my old gang and this thread reminded me of a super awkward part. My character ended up hooking up with another bad guy, played by a friend of mine who was like 4 years older (I was 17 at the time I believe), and a girl. LOL
Just awko taco considering our rapport was always that of an younger and older sibling. When it got to the actual ~love scene~ we just faded to black asap. Fun times.
Really, that's awesome Ace. I'm not cruelly creative like that, but it sounds like you've been having a lot of fun.
