Okay, so here it is guys. Generic ideas ahoy!
In an ambiguous Boarding School/University Setting
*crowd groans*
yeah I know, unoriginal blah blah...

Buuuuuuuut there's a catch. This is in the Pokemon Universe. The school is a perfectly normal school actually, there's only one class explicitly about Pokemon, and even then it's not about battling either, but biology and care mostly.

There are still extracurricular clubs for teaching battling though. Even though basically everyone knows everything about how it works.

The school is located in Orre, near one of the only relatively lush areas in the region. Students are allowed free reign of the campus grounds, including two natural Pokemon reserves, one on a mountain featuring a cave network, and the other in a forest.

The issue is that, this being Orre, Cipher is still around, and this school is well known for being where gym leaders and other people of power send their children. So Cipher has made it a goal to spread Shadow Pokemon among the students here.


There are two rules on Pokemon. everybody gets ONE starter, (from any of the regions) and any two "ordinary" pokemon from any region. what qualifies as "ordinary" is for me to decide
AND, the pokemon are essentially "level 20" that is, I'm not doing levels or anything, but to start, your pokemon can only have evolutions/abilities that species would naturally have at lvl 20

I'm not interested because this isn't a favored genre of mine, but a few notes I found.

You labeled that there will be villains, but I don't see a conflict. What is it these 'spies' or 'gangs' are after or plan to achieve?

You state that this will be a boarding school and will be placed in a Pokemon-esque setting, but I don't see a true connection between the characters. Are they friends, members of the same Pokemon class, or simply for the same cause (in the conflict)?

Also, what roleplay expectation is this? Free, Casual, Advanced?


Sorry if it feels like I'm interrogating your RP creation skills, I only feel like these roleplays are considered generic because the GM's don't place enough thought into the plot/story.

I think Vexical's right, in analyzing what makes an RP generic, but I guess I'm being a bit more optimistic about it. Having this so-called generic idea, but setting it in the Pokemon universe opens up huge opportunities for interesting characters, realistic portrayals of the world and its people, distinct villains, all of that. What you need are players that will work to expand the story themselves, instead of hand-walking them through some drivel about (insert generic Boarding School conflict here). I mean, some people don't realize that Pokemon villains can be very chilling...

Seems a little bit cheesy, but I like the idea. Understandably, this IS just a spitball, as you put it, of what could be quite a promising and very entertaining roleplay, and I look forward to this one undergoing development. I myself wouldn't mind shouting commands at a pet strangely intelligent, yet unseen type of animal. You have my grants of approval and salutations, sir.

I believe I want to change the villains a bit though, instead of general villainous teams, what about Cypher from Colosseum/XD distributing Shadow 'mons over the place? keeps things a bit more focused conflict wise, and Cypher (is it Ci or Cy? can't remember exactly) are probably some of the darkest villains in the series.

So, in both games that had Cipher, the only real way of getting rid of them was with a Snag Machine, so the Shadow Pokemon could be snagged and purified... Are all of the players going to have one, or is there going to be some other method?
