    Rise Of The Phoenix OOC

This Is A Nation role play. The countries in the role play will be based on fictional analogues and similarities to the Chinese, Japanese, Khmer, Indian, Mongolian and other Oriental Cultures.

. The time period is three centuries after the fall of great Empires, the ancestral homelands of your nations, have fallen. Your newer factions have control over the same geography, but much power and culture has been lost.

High Fantasy Elements in this role play are encouraged. Be free to create martial artist sorcerers, Shao Lin, Samurai, Ninja, and magical Katanas that can cut through tanks, etcetera. Also, this role play will be be CASUAL.

Say if you're interested. Also, I"m thinking of having some kind of point-system involved for important characters for your factions. For example, a smart strategist would have a high intelligence score, and a great warrior would have a high combat score, etcetera.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Nation Name:
Province(s): (Max starting provinces is five) Provinces are political seperations from one region from another. They are similar to American states.
Government: You can be a monarchy, an ecclesiarchy (rule by preist hood), an aristocracy of some kind, etcetera. Most government choices are open to you.
Leader(s): Choose only the most important rulers here.
Population (If applicable, break down by state):
    Capitol(s): (If applicable)
    Religion:
    Geography:
    Description:
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On country size, Empires may start with up to eight provinces, but only if they are distinctively Imperial in their government.

However, non Imperial governments have up only to 5 Provinces.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    History on-going:
300 years ago, great Empires, the ancestral homelands of all your countries fell. No matter which nation you are. Everyone lost something big because of the Mandate Of Heaven.

A The Spirit World had to work to protect the physical world.

What happened was that there was a great invasion, everyone was decimated. Mortals won the war, but a vast dimension of demons had already done their damage before being sealed within the evil world.

That was only 300 years ago.

Some pockets of the demonic creatures still exist.

    However. . . .
the further back you go, the great scholars recognize that the Mandate Of Heaven is a law by the spirit world that works to protect the mortals from enslavement and/or destruction by outside forces.

Anywho, all the Humans of the West were killed. :|
No one was left except for what we real lifers would call the Far Easterners, or Asians.
But over 2,000 years, people have slowly built the world up with their cultures, since everyone else died.
Eventually, every country in the world resembles the Far East.

The Mandate Of Heaven works in a cyclical manner,
It saves the world over and over again from the Outside threats, but it rarely occurs more than once every 1500-2000 years.
    Before that, who knows?

Scholars note through alchemical knowledge, and astronomy, that the world and history is much older than 2,000 years, but so far 2,000 years is all they have to go by.

I'm interested. Rather than having a nation, could I have a Court of Spirits or something? A very loose social body composed of the spirits that join it that sets boundaries concerning what the spirits that are part of it (and that they force to follow their rules) can and can't do when it comes to interacting with the mortal world. I'm thinking it'd be fun and interesting to plant spirits disguised as mortals throughout the nations and have them nudge things into happening as they see fit. Oh, and they can be affected by such things like magic, which could be used to bind them even against their will.
    Let's get stupid! Whoo!

Someone asked something about the Mandate of Heaven, that is basically what the Mandate of Heaven is, so I"m going to have to make an unfortunate special exception to this and say no.

Nation Name: Primacy of the Ourin

Province(s): The heartland and sole possession of the Ourin is the Lan River basin, in the far northeast of the civilized world. To the north, the steppes and icy wastes begin, where tribes little better than barbarians roam. The Ourin military is engaged in a constant struggle for control of the river’s mouth, as well as the nearby seacoast. They have met with varying success, but at no point is the district considered secure.

Government: The government of the Primacy is an autocratic regency-magocracy. The court mages, second in command to the emperor during the rule of the Ourin Dynasty, have appointed successors to the modern day. As a result, though the imperial line has long gone extinct, the Ourins’ court remains in power. These mages wield absolute power, with absolutely no civil, legal, moral, real, or perceived obstacles to their rule. As a result, they have shaped society to their vision. The peasantry is vast and powerless, but largely treated well. They are kept fed and mildly happy; comfortable, but not enough so to, with necessities ensured, work for privilege or power. Above them is the rank-and-file military, largely conscripted and poorly trained (Aside from a handful of corps filled by the upper strata of society). The second-highest class is composed of civil servants, primarily concentrated in the capitol city, Sialuntian, where they carry out various bureaucratic duties. Other officials, known as Shialhe travel the countryside, conscripting troops, collecting taxes, and enforcing laws. The ruling class, of course, is formed by the successors of the court mages, who to the present day carry out an elaborate facsimile of dynastic rule. The last Ourin Emperor, known popularly as Wiahel Chulan (It is unclear if this was his name during life), long dead, is kept in a presentable state through dark magics. Occasionally, the Ourin mages bring the Emperor before the people, giving him the semblance of life to drum up popular sentiment towards war or the backing of the government.

Leaders: Nominal: Emperor Wiahel Chulan. In reality, Master Deilan Yihane rules, in cooperation with several other senior mages of the “court”.

Population: ~1,378,000 people inhabit the Lan river basin, which is under solid Ourin control. An additional ~350,000 inhabit the coastal regions, which flit in and out of Ourin domination.

    Capitol(s): Sialuntian

Religion: The official religion of the state is Emperor-worship. However, ancestor-worship, as well as folk religion and adherence to a small pantheon of gods is tacitly encouraged, if not endorsed.

Geography: The Lan river basin is the center of the Ourin Primacy. It is at the edges of its floodplains that the capitol, Sialuntian, sits. Within the floodplain, various villages sit (although, not quite permanently; they are quite often washed away by the surging and shifting of the river). To the north, the land rises into the steppe. To the south, a similar pattern of land continues. Eastwards, the river feeds into the sea, where various coastal provinces cluster around a small bay.

Description: Most nations have a cult (or more!). Ourin is a cult that has a nation. The class of mage-scholar-bureaucrats is composed of fervent Emperor-worshippers, obsessed with returning the province to it’s former imperial glory. Most hold that the path back to glory is the restoration of the dynasty, through necromancy, spirits, or other magical arts. To this end, they are aggressive, haughty, manipulative, and willy. The Ourin do not have friends, but only allies; agreements are made at convenience, for a term of years. More often than not, treaties are allowed to expire and old scores to reignite. However, the also have no true enemies; they hold no grudge, but only work tirelessly towards an end. (Essentially, Realpolitik.)
"People were ready to have even their appetites controlled then. Anything for a quiet life. We've gone on controlling ever since. It hasn't been very good for truth, of course. But it's been very good for happiness. One can't have something for nothing. Happiness has got to be paid for. You're paying for it"

    The Mandate Of Heaven
The Mandate Of Heaven is a mutual and unanimous agreement in the Spirit World to protect the world in this setting from conquest by the demons and other Outside Forces, through direct intervention whenever it's needed. Whenever the Mandate is invoked by the elders of the Spirit World, the gods and other beings go to war with the forces that wish to conquer the world.

    Nation Name: Da Shi
Province(s): The city of Da Shi and the surrounding are Da Shi's only holdings.
Government: Da Shi is an Absolute Monarchy ruled over by the Grand Prince, who has complete and total power over the entire city. There does exist a High Council, who is composed of the heads of the city's 3 Noble Houses, the clergy, and the military. However, this group exists to merely approve decision made by the Grand Prince, and has no actual power.
    Leader(s): Grand Prince Wang Tiequan
    Population: Approximately 1 million
    Capitol(s): Da Shi
Religion: The religion of Da Shi teaches that everything in the world contains a spirit, and these spirits also includes such things as Gods and human ancestors. The principal places of worship are at shrines built around natural places which are supposed to have especially sacred spirits, and as such are treated with the utmost respect and reverence. There are also numerous rituals and rites associated with the religion, which the people undertake as a regular part of there days. In fact, most people consider the series of beliefs to be more of a way of life than a religion, and treat it as such. Only women are allowed to become Priestesses, and this is oftentimes the only way a woman in Da Shi is able to gin significant power.
Geography: Da Shi is a coastal city, right on the edge of the Meinu Bay to the South. The land around the sprawling city is itself predominantly rolling hills and flatlands, which eventually rise even further into mountains in the northern sections of the small province. The land is, for the most part, rather empty, however there are a fair number of forests, both of trees and bamboo.
Description: Da Shi is essentially a single massive city of hundreds of thousands of people that dominates the small province it is found in. Despite there being a fair number of small villages in the province, the vast majority of the people leave in the city itself. While it is ruled with an iron fist by a monarch, they generally do not do much to overtly oppress their people, and work for the betterment of the city, rather than merely themselves.
