Name:
Esmeralda "Esme" Lanier
Age: 22
Appearance: Esme is a tall, lithe thing. Standing at five-nine flat-footed, she has a naturally willowy frame. This bird-boned structure allows her well-trained muscles to not appear too bulky, instead the woman appearing long and lean. She has skin that, even after being in the sun for her various travels, seems to have soaked little color into it, remaining soft and pale. Scattered across the milky flesh are several mars, ranging from protection sigils, tattooed into the flesh, to scars from shots, slices and claws. Long, golden tendrils fall to the small of her back, and are usually secured into a braid. When the strands are allowed freedom, they tend to fall around her face in a haphazard mess, loose waves an untamable mess. She has amber eyes, the color of honey, which give away her emotions even when she tries her best to remain stone. They nearly always seem to sparkle with amusement, as if laughing at an unspoken joke. An elongated face with high cheekbones and a squared jaw gives her a serious, tough appearance.
She moves very fluidly, almost elegantly. When she walks, she has an almost cat-like gait, with slow, long steps. Her head seems to stay down, as if she is prowling, and will cock to the side from time to time. When her guard is down, the woman is very ardent in her movements. She gestures often as she talks, hands flying around this way and that, body moving with the story or conversation. Her large, almond eyes are always animated, widening at the climax of a tale, or narrowing to mere slants when looking suspiciously. Her smile is almost cheshire, plump lips pulling back broadly to reveal nearly all her teeth. The girl's expressions can boarder on comical.
Personality: Esme is a bit of a brute, far from the demure and dainty women she grew up around. A foul mouth that would cause even the most seasoned sailor to gawk, the woman says whats on her mind, and tends to add a few colorful phrases to boot. She drinks like a fish when not on a hunt, and can often be found several drinks deep at a local pub. She is a weapons enthusiast, as most in her line of duty are, and is typically packing at any given moment. Far from shy or reserved, Esme is brash and loud, outgoing and painfully crude. She is exuberant, and lives each day with as little regret as possible.
She loves to gamble, and will bet on anything. She is a braggart, so God help you if you place a wager against her and lose, she will never let it go. The woman, though far from trusting, does not hold grudges. She simply doesn't let people close enough to make any betrayals worth a grudge. Grudges take time and energy she would rather spend on anything else but moping.
Esme enjoys being around men. Having grown up with only father-figures, the woman simply connects better with men. This is reflected in her brash attitude. But don't take it wrong - while she can be brutish, she doesn't come off as "macho." No, she has had her fair share of suitors, not quite put-off by her vulgar behavior. With the flick of a switch, the blond can switch to seductive, her almost animalistic nature used for her gain. Far from a prude, Esme isn't known for denying pleasures of the flesh. Realizing that she will likely never marry or have a family (and not really wanting to) she enjoys taboo romances with passing strangers, taking what she wants before leaving.
For the few that have won Esme's trust and admiration, she is loyal as can be. She would give her life for the few people she loves without a thought. Less than a handful of people have earned the honor of becoming Esme's confidant.
Typical Weapons: Esme carries the typical tools of a hunter, as well as a few personal favorites. Her weapon of choice is one her mentor created, called a Cross of Xavier. The silver-plated crucifix combines a short-sword and a spear. The monstrous weapon nearly always hangs at her side. She has a handful of stakes on her person at any time, ranging from classical wooden stakes to more effective, but rarer, silver ones. A small crossbow crafted by her mentor is strapped to her fore arm a majority of the time, spare bolts attached to her belt in a small quiver. Two flasks rest tucked on her person at any time - one containing water blessed by a priest, and the other containing firewater. A dagger is stashed in her boots, and a few tiny throwing knives on her belt. (May edit)
Background: Esme was born in a rural village to a furrier and hunter, and his housemaker wife. She remembers little of her mother, the woman having passed when she was only five, and being terribly ill the years before that. She always idealized her father, a loving man who kept his young girl at his side at all times. By the time she was seven, she was able to wield a gun as best a seven year old could, and skin a rodent within minutes. She often went on trapping and hunting trips with her father, relishing in the time away with him.
It was on such a trip that her life changed dramatically. While the girl slept soundly, their camp was stormed by a massive, furred creature. As the wolf-like abomination ravished the camp, attacking the girl's father, another figure stormed in. This one, a middle-aged man in a billowing cloak. He attacked the monster, soon finishing it with a well-aimed slice and stab. However, the blow came too late, the creature having already claimed Esme's father's life, leaving the eleven year old an orphan. As she stared in horror, the massive creature shrunk, distorted, and became human.
Left with nowhere to go and owing her life to the man, Esme became the mysterious fellow's assistant, training in the arts of slaying. Joshua Abelard became like a father to her, the two bonding over the years they spent together. For the next six years, she trained under Joshua's watchful eyes, becoming ruthless in her killing, and well educated in the mythologies of supernatural.
After six years of traveling together, Joshua's body could no longer hold up to the rigors of hunting. At 42, they both knew he was simply passed his prime. Retiring before he would be killed off, the man went to work at an inn, known well to hunters as a safe-haven. He retired, and Esme went on, to carry on in his place. After years of hunting, the idea of settling down as a barwench in an inn simply wouldn't do.
