History: One of the many illegitimate children that the Cardassians left with the Bajoran women they raped. fortunately, he never actually saw occupied Bajor, his mother had managed to escape to Federation space and raised him on Alpha Centauri. His mother fell in love with a Starfleet Officer, Howard Kliener, and they married soon after. they had baby Richard after one more year and lived happily for many years. but his father was re-assigned to the U.S.S. Wallace in 2368. after the fall of the Cardassian occupation, they moved back to Bajor.
However, Jorel had moved to Earth many years before-hand in order to attend the Academy. He spent several years there and trained to become a security officer. He passed through in the top quarter of his class. his first posting was as a Security officer onboard the U.S.S. Hermes (Nebula-Class) in 2363 where he spent until he was promoted to Lieutenant in 2367 and was transfered to Starbase 824 and made the Chief of Security. It was here that he met his wife-to-be, a Trill named Loniri Qiin. they married in 2369 and had their son, Maxwell, in 2370.
they lived happily until 2373, when the station came under attack from a Dominion raiding fleet. the station fought bravely for 3 hours and was badly damaged, but the Commanding Officer was confident that they could hold out until re-enforcements arrived. they had sent out a distress call which was responded to by a small flotilla, 3 Excelsiors (U.S.S. Crazy Horse, U.S.S. Gorkon and U.S.S. Agamemnon) headed by the U.S.S. Shogun (Galaxy-Class). after they lost Shields, the Commander told them that they would still hold the line whilst the rest of the command staff decided to relieve the Commander of his command and abandon the station. they had been talking about it since the attack had began but Jorel had held back from abandoning the station. but with the Shields now gone and the Reinforcements still an hour away, he finally decided to mutiny. and they abandoned ship, the Escape Pods launched and Jorel, Loniri, Maxwell and the rest of the command staff went to the 3 stationed Runabouts. they decided that Jorel would take Maxwell, the Chief Medical Officer and the Second-in-Command in one of the runabouts whilst Loniri took a different one with the sedated Commander, Chief Flight officer and Chief Engineer. they decided that with 2 targets, they were more likely to survive. they launched at the same time. unfortunately, when they had finally reached a safe distance to go to warp, Loniri's Runabout's engines were hit by a pursuing Dominion ship just before they went to warp, Jorel tried to disengage warp and go back for her, but he was physically restrained from going so by the Chief Medical Officer and Second in Command, before the Medical Officer put him under with a sedative.
when they reached the flotilla, they boarded the Shogun and returned to the area, unfortunately the Dominion had achieved their objectives and had already left, they found the wreckage of the second runabout close-by. Jorel and the surviving command staff were taken back to Starfleet Command and had to go to a hearing about the loss of Starbase 824. it was decided that they acted correctly and blame was given to the Commander who had not ordered an Evacuation earlier. Jorel was given a year of Bereavement and spent it on Alpha Centauri, raising Max, his mother moved back after "Operation Return."
He was soon called back into action to serve as Chief Security Officer of the U.S.S. Shogun, and took part in the Battle of Cardassia. They won the battle and returned home. the Shogun served in the Betazed fleet for a time, Jorel was then offered captaincy of the Yggdrasil, he was hoping for captaincy of the Shogun, but being that the current captain would reach retirement age in 5 years time, he knew that the best way to get to be her captain, would to gain experience at captaincy first, so he accepted.
