    Rachel smiled to herself, striding downthe hallway towards her dorm. It had been a few hours since she'd left; the sun had set a while ago. She was in a far better mood after having spent some time with her friends. She'd even managed to get in an impromptu meeting with her student council officers and the school principal, John Bates, EdD. They had begun discussing the back to school pep rally, which Rachel had suggested be a bonfire on the beach this year. The girl had broached the subject of homecoming as well, and even mentioned a few theme ideas, besides cementing the plans for the canned food drive that would begin in a few weeks. Rachel had also chatted with her drama club vice president, discussing ideas for the fall show. After going to introduce herself to her teachers for the year, there had still been time for her to have lunch and hang out with her various friends.

    Catching up with everybody was nice, Rachel concluded, arriving at her door. Still smiling to herself, the girl slid her hand into her pocket for her key. Her face dropped when she found no such thing. Patting her other pockets, Rachel slowly came to the realization that she was locked outside. In her mind's eye, she could clearly see her keys sitting on her desk, right where she'd left them. Rachel, you moron! she thought, slapping her palm against her forehead. Going to the student office to ask them to unlock her door would be insanely embarrassing, especially considering her roommate situation. Sighing, the girl concluded that there was only one way to go about getting back inside.

    Rachel knocked gently on the door. "Hey, Jett, you in there?" she called quietly. "It's Rachel. Open up, please."

    Jett had spent most of the afternoon catching some waves with his friends down at the beach until it got dark. He figured he should head back early in so he would be inside the dorm when Rachel would arrive without a key. He had changed into more comfortable clothes, a sleeveless T-shirt and some sweatpants and was lied down on his bed. He puled out his phone and began typing a text to someone on when a knock came to the door. Immediately, he knew who it was. He grinned as he heard Rachel's muffled voice asking to come it. He hopped off the bed and walked over to the door. "Why don't you just use your keys?' he called, looking at the night stand where Rachel's keys were sitting. God, he didn't know why but he was finding this too entertaining already.

    "Why don't you just use yours keys?"

    Rachel grit her teeth. Does he think I'm an idiot? Honestly. "Because I don't have them. Come on, just let me in." She jiggled the doorknob, just to emphasize her words a bit. The girl was trying very hard to stay patient; having some sort of tantrum in the dorm hall would be completely unacceptable. Something about Jett really ticked her off, though. Is it his obvious disregard for neatness? The way he's just so 'cool' all the time? That little touch of smugness, like he knows that he's going to win in the end? These were all factors, of course, but Rachel knew what the top reason really was. Though she was completely loath to admit it, the girl found her roommate to be very attractive. That frustrated her most of all--it was a lot harder to hate the enemy when the enemy was so hot. Rachel sighed.

    "How do I know you aren't some kind of serial killer?" he asked with mock suspicion. He walked back to her night stand and grabbed the keys. Then, he slowly opened the door and peered through the crack. "Oh, Rachel, it is you," he laughed, opening the door completely now. "Looking for these?" he held up his index finger from which Gwen's key dangled on its key ring. "I thought you were all about being organized and neat," he quipped before tossing them toward the girl and returning to his bed. He sat down and looked up at Rachel with his usual grin plastered on his face. "You're looking good," he said, lying back in his bed and pulling his phone out again.

    "There will be a murder if you don't open the door already," Rachel grumbled. When Jett pulled the door open just a crack, she offered him a sullen glare. "Of course it's me!" she said a bit snappishly, catching the keys he tossed at her and following him inside. "I'm neat and organized, not perfect."

    Putting the keys into her pocket, Rachel turned her back to Jett to start filling in dates on the calendar she'd hung above her desk. Meetings, dances, and lunch dates with friends had to be added to her schedule right away so she wouldn't double book. However, the girl turned to raise an eyebrow at his little compliment. "Of course I look good. You ought to start telling me things I don't know." Tch. As if he'd be able to come up with something to surprise me.

    Jett snickered and got up off his bed and came behind her, looking over her shoulder to see her writing various dates and appointments she had. "Hmmm," he said, observing and reading a couple of the dates. "I think you're forgetting something," he informed her, with a quizzical look on his face. "What about the day when you go on a date with me?" He, of course, didn't really have feelings for her at the moment. Especially because she was being rather obstinate about the fact that she has someone as sexy as he as her roommate. But who knows? One date might change everything and Jett certainly wouldn't deny a date with a girl as good looking as Rachel.

    Rachel nearly choked on her own saliva at that one. A date? With him? Sure, he's good looking, but he's also a smug jerk. Okay, Jett hadn't really been all that awful to her, but the girl had a tendancy towards exaggeration. Her first instinct was to snap something rude at him, but then she considered that it might be time for a different approach. Rachel turned to face her roommate, gasping and covering her mouth with a girlish politeness. "How could I have forgotten that!" she exclaimed sincerely. "I think next Friday night is open, if you'd still like to go out." Her tone was sweet, maybe a little shy and hopeful even. She hoped that this rather dramatic change in attitude would catch Jett off guard. Plus, Rachel realized with an internal smirk, if he falls for me, then I'll definitely have won. I could have him wrapped around my finger in no time flat if I play this right, she thought confidently. Rachel had never really tried to get a boy to fall for her before--she'd never needed to. It happened all by itself, of course, and she always tried her best not to use those poor guys whose feelings she never returned, but sometimes she had no choice. Besides, having a guy or two under you thumb was always helpful when you were someone like Rachel, who often needed to pull strings, call in favors, maintain a small army of subordinates, and the like.

    Jett raised an eyebrow when Rachel's attitude became its polar opposite. She went from all-business and seriousness to a bubbly, typical teenage girl. He narrowed his eyes for a moment in suspicion. He may be a surfer and reasonably attractive but her certainly was not unintelligent and an alarm immediately went off in his head at this. What was her game? "Yeah... Friday sounds...great," he said slowly trying to stare into Rachel's soul which wasn't really working. All he saw was a beautiful girl with a childish smile plastered to her face, but he knew all to well that behind that innocent face she was hatching some kind of plan for him. He crossed his arms and concluded that he would suppress any feelings he may get for her in the future until her figures out her motive.

    {{XD Sorry for just randomly vanishing. . . I'm back now!}}

    "Great!" Rachel smiled and maintained eye contact for a moment before turning away from Jett to write in her neat, loopy handwriting on her calendar again. Date with Jett! the bit on Friday's square read. She decided to make to point of the exclamation mark a heart for added girliness. I'll have to come up with an extra-stunning outfit for that, she decided. Then the girl replaced her pen in the appropriate desk drawer and made her way to her dresser, yawning. It wasn't terribly late, but Rachel had had a busy day, and she tended to go to bed early. She opened the top drawer (which contained pajamas, undergarments and socks folded in neat stacks and rows) and instantly retreived exactly what she was looking for: her little pink polka-dot shorts and matching red t-shirt. These were her favourite pajamas.

    Rachel was about to change when she remembered the presence of her male roommate. I don't want to go all the way down the hall to the girls' bathroom just to change. . . . she thought with a small frown. Then the girl looked at Jett. "I'd like to put on pj's, if you don't mind, so. . . ." She made a small gesture, indicating that he should at least turn around to face the wall or leave or something.

    ((lol, no worries))

    Jett watched as she scribbled the date onto Friday's box. He still felt uneasy, as if he had won her over too smoothly. He remained silent and came to his bed where he sat back down and rubbed his knees which were hurting slightly.

    "I'd like to put on pj's, if you don't mind, so. . . ."

    Jett looked up. Oh, right. Changing and everything might be a problem, especially if his roommate was some kind of feminist. "Yeah, yeah," he said, leaning back into the bed and turning his head to face the wall. His inner Y-chromosome urged him to steal a glance but he knew it probably wouldn't be a good idea (at least, the first time!), especially if she saw him looking. God knows what kind of wrath she might unleash on him. "You do realize this is gonna be a problem," he pointed out, still looking at the wall, with his arms crossed behind his head. "I mean, the whole changing thing."
