    Pokemon - Species Screwery (IC)

A Pokemon professor in Pallet Town had this idea, to make a machine that would let Pokemon speak human languages, and even gathered one of pretty much every species to test it on. It was certainly a noble goal; the lack of speech on the part of most Pokemon was the only major hitch in communication from trainer to Pokemon. The time spent on the machine to do it was very long, and thanks in part to some of the most talented trainers in the Kanto region, Professor Oak was even able to have some legendary Pokemon to test the machine on, even if their being captured was only temporary.

But he miscalculated. The end result was more than what Oak had bargained for. While the Pokemon the machine had been tested on were fully capable of human speech, they also had opposable thumbs, clothes, and had been turned into human beings! Now, this would all be okay, but there was one test subject in particular who took advantage of the situation the machine had brought on, and the confusion that followed.

It's name was Giratina. To say the least, Giratina was angry. It had been captured and dragged far away from its place of residence, and brought to this petty little town to be treated like a lab rat?

"Unacceptable," it had decided. When the machine was used on Giratina, altering its form beyond any restoration, it repeated exactly that to the first human it laid eyes on. Professor Oak.

In the interest of taking over the human world as its own way of protecting Pokemon, Giratina stole the machine Professor Oak had made, and struck down the very person who had irrevocably altered Giratina's form. While the genetic codes of other Pokemon were being re-written, Giratina has been making itself perfectly happy by slowly destroying the Kanto region.

It's been three days since then, and the genetic codes are now fully re-written, the Pokemon test subjects re-awakening for the first time, albeit in a rather demolished Pallet Town. Where is Giratina? What is it doing now? What are its true intentions? Most importantly, is there anything a bunch of genetically altered Pokemon can do about it?

    REACTIVATING...

    NOTE: NEW HARDWARE

OBJECTIVE: ACCLIMATIZE SELF TO NEW HARDWARE

The Golurk-human slowly rose from the ground. It lied in the rubble of Professor Oak's Research Laboratory, and saw other bodies lying around.

    ATTEMPTING TO SCAN OTHER LIFE-FORMS...

ERROR: UNABLE TO SCAN DUE TO NEW HARDWARE

...IDENTIFICATION: PROFESSOR OAK OF THE KANTO REGION

The creature slowly lumbered over to Oak's remains.

    SCANNING FOR VITAL SIGNS...

ERROR: UNABLE TO SCAN DUE TO NEW HARDWARE

NOTE TO SELF: EXPLORE RAMIFICATIONS OF NEW HARDWARE

    OBJECTIVE: CHECK FOR PULSE

The creature felt the Professor's neck gingerly, searching for a pulse.

RESULTS: NEGATIVE. PROFESSOR OAK OF THE KANTO REGION DECEASED

    NEW OBJECTIVE: OBSERVE OTHER BODIES

The beast went around to the other bodies, searching for a pulse on them.

She opened her eyes slowly, finally awaking after being put to sleep.

She had fallen asleep to Oak's smiling face, reassuring her that it will be fine and that she would be given back to her trainer after this. Kia did not really need assurance, since she was volunteered for the project, in hopes that she can finally communicate with her trainer without all the guesswork involved. However, she woke up to a vastly different scene than before. Oak was gone, the lab was in disarray and much of the equipments was destroyed.

It seems she was still in an intact machine however, as she was still floating in some sort of liquid solution with a breathing mask on. Some of the cylindrical containers were intact as well, holding some other pokemons that haven't woken up yet. At least, she thinks they are, they looked blurry from here, and their shapes looked....Wrong. With that thought in her mind, she looked towards herself.

She jerked in surprise, eliciting a beep from the machine as it detected her sudden jump in heart rate.

She looked at her hands, noting that they were similar to her master's, and at her .... new body. After a bit of self exploring, and trying hard to remember all the things she knew about humans, she decided it was time to exit. Focusing her mind hard, the machines started to break, whizzing and sparking. With bit more effort, she crushed the thing, releasing the emergency system, on her machine. The cylindrical glass hissed upwards and disappeared into the ceiling, releasing her and all the liquid out onto the floor. Kia hoped there wasn't any humans around. They tended to get upset if she accidentally broke anything.

She lay there coughing for a while, and finally stood up. This room was half filled with other pokemons, apparently as changed as she was, but still asleep. Kia could release them, but she had no idea how it would affect them. Remembering the original aim of the project, what she knew of it at least, she opened her mouth and tried to speak.

    "..a..khe...erh.."

    She took a deep breath.

    "MASTER~!"

Kia grinned broadly, looking very pleased with herself. Well, at least she can communicate with her trainer now, so it wasn't a complete bust. But this destruction worries her. Where are the humans? Where is Oak?

More importantly, where is her trainer? She promised she would be here when Kia woke up. Feeling a bit peeved, she blasted out the nearest empty wall, and exited the building.

"Master, where are you, you stupid bitch!?"

    So....If I was a necromancer before...Is this an improvement?
My challenge to myself from now on. I will accompany every IC post with a picture I draw, regardless of how bad it is. I may not be able to put one up if the potato I call my broadband acts up however.

Yami's eyes slowly fluttered open, the twin black abysses staring seemingly at nothing. Where was he? Where was his jackass of a trainer? Looking to the left, than to the right, Yami closed his eyes and tried to remember what had happened. He remembered being grabbed by the scruff of his neck, his trainers angry eyes, and then Mr. Oak's kind ones. Hmmm, what did that entail?

    ...

    ...

    ...!

His eyes snapping open in shock, Yami tried to calm down his heart beat. He hadn't wanted the experiment . Hell, he tried to tell Mr. Oak no a million times, but the man never listened. His trainer, Kent, had wanted him to be able to talk, so that they could battle better. Yami, of course, didn't want anything to do with that pitiful excuse of a human. Now, here he was, in Mr. Oaks damned lab...

Well, the remains of his lab. Frowning in thought, Yami wondered what had happened. Did the experiments go wrong? Was he still an Umbreon? One look towards the black leather jacket he wore was enough to make him curse in his mind.

Where was all his perfect fur?!

Almost growling in rage, the Umbreon-turned-human opened hi mouth and began to access his power, forming a small Shadow Ball in front of his mouth. The weird green liquid didn't choke him, however.

    How strange.

Releasing the ball of shadow, he watched, un amused, as it tore through his glass encasement, throwing shards of glass and shadow residue everywhere. Now, dropping to the ground, Yami decided to observe the other experiments, his vacant eyes staring around in a bored fashion.

Seeing another...human...calling out for her 'Master', he almost chuckled. Seriously? Master?

"Servant?" he asked in his usual one-worded sentences. He hoped that she didn't take him the wrong way. He was just asking if she was a weapon, or servant in this case.

Joseph's eyes flutter open and then close again. Another hour... But there is something wrong. Despite feeling tired, Joseph feels....different somehow. He could no longer move his tail and speaking of tails, where was....that thing supposed to be biting it? He always felt a dull pain from it but now he felt no pain. Not anywhere. He just wanted to sleep some more....He could hear shifting nearby. A predator? Who cares? He opens one eye and looks around. A variety of weird looking Pokemon are on the ground, some moving, some not. Joseph yawns and scratches a head with his claw....wait, what? Where was his claw? Joseph lazily hung his hand in front of his face, one eye open. It was...different. More fingers, not a claw in sight, just some stubby, peach coloured things. Where was his trainer?

Joseph gave a yawn and decided. He was going to get up and find John, his trainer. Maybe he could explain some stuff....or maybe not. John, his trainer, was as lazy as a Slowpoke and once slept for two days straight, so wherever he was...Ah, who cares? Getting up was the hardest part of being a Slowbro. With that big...shell this on your back, you had to sleep on your stomach. It was always a bother getting up in the morning. Sure, his claws were gone and he couldn't feel his tail but surely, it would be the same morning as ever. Joseph groaned slightly and prepared. The most effort he ever did was rare battles and getting up in the morning. He rolled over onto his back a little too hard. He didn't know, of course, his shell on his tail was gone. so, he crashed his back on the ground. The pain was searing. Joseph sat up in surprise, rubbing his back. Usually, pain just felt dull for him but this was different....Joseph crawled on his hands and knees, increasingly aware something was wrong. He saw it, a piece of 'glass' as the humans called it. It reflected your image back at you so you could see yourself. He stared into it and as the pain is his back dulled, Joseph realised something was very wrong.

Instead of the pink face staring back at him, with lazy eyes and a lazy smile on its face, he saw a human. Joseph sighed. He hated getting up in the mornings but surprises were the worst in the mornings!

"..." Marrik's eyes shot open. She couldn't feel a thing of her body, and if she didn't know better, she'd swear she was dead...but Marrik could tell she was alive. Last she remembered, she was in Professor Oak's lab, being tested on by his new machine. There were different versions of the machine, too. Some Pokemon were tested by the capsules, which were designed to slowly change the genes more safely. Marrik had been one of the Pokemon tested on by the portable version: a sort of ray gun that re-wrote the genetic code of a Pokemon over the course of a couple of days. "...tr..." The entire purpose of the test was to see if Oak could make Pokemon speak. If Marrik didn't try, everything would have been for nothing. He caught her, and treated her so kindly during the time his machine was being built and the other test subjects rounded up. Trying to speak from the very get-go was the least she owed him. If she were able to speak before the test, she would have told Oak that having a legendary Pokemon in their midst made her nervous, but having water-types did the same thing for her. "Ha...tr..."

"I have...a trainer." His name was Professor Oak. It was only four words, but that meant it was a success. Now that feeling was returning to her body, however, something felt wrong. Her tail, for one. Marrik still couldn't feel that. And her skin felt softer, like Oak's did. So, grabbing the faithful bone that lied not far from her side, Marrik got up, and looked at herself. If she didn't see it herself, she wouldn't believe it. She was human! That was a bit more than anybody had seen coming. As she started piecing together more words to make herself used to speaking, Marrik began taking a look around. A lot of the test subjects were gone, and the lab was in absolute ruins, just like the rest of the Pallet Town that she could see through holes in the walls. The first moving thing she saw was a big blue guy. Judging by the looks of him, he must have been the Golurk brought in for the experiment. Now, Marrik wasn't particularly comfortable around ghost-type Pokemon - they always reminded her of scary stories Oak's grandson (the bastard!) told Marrik for the purpose of scaring her at night - but it was either that, or go on alone.

Still being a Cubone, she'd rather be around somebody even if they made her uncomfortable, rather than be alone. Adjusting the skull on her head, Marrik said to the Golurk-looking person "Excuse me. Do you know where the Professor went?" Marrik hadn't yet seen him. Perhaps something crazy happened and he escaped the carnage?

Resolution turned around at the sound of another voice.

    IDENTIFYING...SPECIES: CUBONE

    ATTEMPTING TO ACTIVATE SPEECH SYNTHESIZER...

ERROR: NEW HARDWARE HAS DIFFERENT SYNTHESIZER

    ATTEMPTING TO ACTIVATE NEW SYNTHESIZER...

The Golurk-human sputtered at the mouth, trying to speak. Eventually, he was able to get out the words,

"Professor Oak of the Kanto Region is currently deceased." The golem cocked his head curiously. "Please identify yourself, Cubone-human hybrid."

Kia stood outside, feeling the breeze and the sun for the first time as a human. But she was not pleased by the sight that met her eyes outside.

    The town.

The town certainly had seen better days.

Empty, as empty as the lab itself. Save for the few dead people strewn about. It had been only a few days since she first closed her eyes inside the tubular machine, and that few days something powerful had made an impact enough to seriously threaten the humans, and destroyed the small town. Kia suspected whatever it was had not stopped at this town, for the absence of any law enforcements or any other authority was as painfully apparent as the bodies still lying around. Humans do not leave their dead lying around, nor would they simply ignore a small town suddenly disappearing.

A small sound came from behind her, causing her to turn her head slightly. "Servant?"

    A....man.

She shook her head. No, a pokemon turned human most probably. It was very unlikely that whatever destroyed this town would leave them alive if it was killing indiscriminately. It was targeting humans specifically, for reasons still unknown.

"I am no one's servant! Who the hell are you!?"

Whoever he was, he was making her hair stand on end, as her trainer would put it.

    So....If I was a necromancer before...Is this an improvement?

    ~Yami, an Umbreon humanoid.~

"I am no one's servant! Who the hell are you!?"

Yami tilted his head slightly to the side, a frown the only thing expressing his confusion. She called out 'Master', so she had to be a servant.

    Right?

Shaking his head, he approached the lady...no, Pokémon...no lady.

Ok, he approached the lady, absent-mindedly dodging the small shards of glass. He knew, from his past experiences, that glass + paw = blood & pain. Mentally shivering from the image of him being impaled by long, jagged shards of glass, Yami stood in front of the girl, maybe too close, seemingly staring into her soul.

Then, suddenly, he turned around and started to walk away, his solemn black eyes staring into the rapidly darkening sky. Stuffing his...hands inside of the baggy black....pants...Yami leapt into the air, happy that he still had his acrobatic skills. Landing gently onto a tree top, the Pokémon-turned-human leaned against it, observing Kia.

"Rude girl. You say master, so, therefore, you are servant. Do not try to deny it..." he said in his soft, almost sad voice. He sat down, running his fingers across the rough bark of the tree.

"Tall..." he muttered absently, settling into a more relaxing position.
    "Whispering....
    the Silence of the Night...."

Even in a deep sleep, the dreams had felt sickeningly real. From the blurred faces, incomprehensible speech and the pain –to the fire, screams and debris exploding around her. When Yaz awoke, the pokemon glanced around her to take everything in. She remembers being brought here against her will and something sticking her in the arm, but other than that, she had no recollection of what had happened in the last few months. She tried to move her arms and felt the pull of wires and tubes at her skin. She peered at them curiously and then at the tube of liquid she was suspended in. Her first instinct was to pull the tubes out, but she somehow knew that without them, she would drown. First, she needed to break free.

As she scanned the tube, she noticed a webbed crack to the bottom left. Maneuvering herself, she braced her back against the opposite side of the tube and, with what energy she had, kicked out with a powerful strike right in the middle of the crack. The glass shattered and the mysterious liquid, plus herself, came tumbling out. Gasping for her first breath of real air, Yaz shakily stood on two legs. Standing upright was no red flag for her, as even in her normal form she walked, more often than not, on her hind legs. Even having opposable thumbs wasn’t an alert. It was when she caught her reflection in a shattered mirror that she noticed her short, human face instead of her long, gorgeous snout. She rushed forward, touching the mirror as if it would reveal what had happened, and then turned to look around the now desecrated lab. She noticed a few other humans were about, but these humans looked different. She recognized a Golurk-human, but the other ones in sight she didn’t recognize their pokemon similarities.

She hadn’t agreed to the lab testing, in fact she’d been forced against her will to go to the lab. She’d been a happy rogue Zoroark living in Castelia stealing from the stupid humans there when Professor Oak came along and ruined it. She had no trainer, her name, Yaz, coming from the nickname the people of the city had given her and she’d
    merely just adopted.

She hunched forward, much like she would have in her normal form to walk on all fours. Her arms, though changed in their human state, were still on the long side and her legs weren’t exactly the tallest so she managed to get onto all fours without looking like an entire idiot. It was awkward, though, and she looked something similar to an Infernape at this rate, but Yaz didn’t care. She slunk her way throughout the lab, not so much checking up on the others as looking for anything valuable she could take.

She came across a strange red, white and black device that she’d seen once or twice in her days as a pokemon. She picked it up, holding it awkwardly between her index and thumb and poked, prodded and shook the device until it slid open with a click. It showed a small screen, blank, that beeped to life as she poked it. Holding it away from her body, Yaz took an experimental whiff and then looked around. It took her a moment to remember what those humans had done with it when she’d seen them and she pointed it at the nearest pokehuman –a Slowbro. The screen blipped to life and a digital voice (One that nearly caused Yaz to drop it in fright) read out. “I’m sorry. I could not identify that pokemon. Please try again.” She pushed the big button again and the voice this time read out. “Slowbro, the…. Shellder the…” It stopped, then gave another “Try again” warning.Carefully re-shutting the Pokedex, Yaz shoved the device into the confines of her hair for safekeeping and moved forward throughout the lab.

It was Kia that ultimately caught her attention, and by association, Yami who had spoken to her. The once-Zoroark stood up straight and cocked her head to one side, eyes narrowed. For the first time, Yaz attempted to speak. “You loud.” She looked to Kia and smirked, snickering to herself. “Why seek master? Humans below us.” She said, though she snickered again she didn’t bother to say anything else to Kia. Instead she looked at Yami, who had now jumped off into a tree feeling s slight connection to him –must be from being of similar type. She called up to him, “You? Who you?” More accurately, once she learned more proper English ‘What pokemon are you supposed to be?’
