    Starship Smackdown OOC

    Who would win between the Enterprise and a Star Destroyer? What about the Mimbari vs the Borg? Or your original sci-fi space fleet versus someone else's?

    Here's where we find out! All hail the Starship Smackdown! Where you smack down starships with other starships!

    This will be a RP based on combat between spaceships. Copy your favorite ships from sci fi, or make your own! I will monitor the fights while gauging weapons, defenses, ship sizes, tactics, etc. I will favor good writing but also good ships, effective designs, and effective tactics.

    Battles will be determined based on a resource pools. I will examine your ship information and assign resource costs to each of your ships. Competitors will be able to field as many ships as they have resources, putting them together into a fleet or spending them all on a single vessel to be placed against the enemy.

    I am considering adding in "reinforcement resources" for those players who advance to further rounds in this tournament-based arena RP. More on that when I get some feedback regarding whether players want to have a uniform resource cost for each fight or an incentive to keep as many ships alive as possible to field a larger fleet in the next round.

    Without further ado, I'm going to put forward the ship application. Fill out as many of these as you desire different ship types in your fleet. Describe their size and equipment as needed. Unless otherwise stated, I will assume a "laser" is a beam of focused electromagnetic light. Other weapons may be self-explanatory, or I might need further detail regarding what they are.

    When filling out weapon information, please specify how the weapons are mounted (broadside, forward-facing, turreted, etc) as it affects ship tactics as well as maximum weapon size.

    Long, sleek black latticed-hulled ships that are the main punching power of the Xindhi fleet. These ships are often in command of task force deployments also serving as diplomatic envoy mission escorts for the Lord Counsel and/ or his officers.

    The fire control computer automatically calculates the fire control solution based on - lead angle measurement, bend of the gun measured by the muzzle reference system, velocity measurement from a laser-web sensor on the top of the “head” and data from a pendulum static cant sensor located at the center of the ships body axis.

    The AN/AAQ-77 electro-optical Distributed Aperture System (DAS) is the first of a new generation of sensor systems fielded on the IXF ships. DAS consists of 144 high-resolution EM sensors mounted around the ships frame in such a way as to provide unobstructed spherical (4pi steradian) coverage and functions around the ship.

    The DAS provides three basic categories of functions in every direction simultaneously:

    1--Missile detection and tracking (including launch point detection and countermeasure cueing)
    2--Ship detection and tracking (Situational awareness IRST & ship-to-ship weapons cueing)
    3--Imagery for CIC firing displays and helmsmen command and control.

    The IXF DAS was first used in military operational exercises in 4045 and demonstrated the ability to detect and track missiles and ships to ranges exceeding 250,000 miles. It has also demonstrated the ability to detect and track multiple small craft simultaneously in swarm combat flight around the ship.

    Based on the data so far regarding Silux' destroyer, I'm going to tentatively give it a resource cost of 300,000 resource units, subject to change when he completes his data.

    As for the massive Xindhi ships, using volumetric-based resource costs I'm going to go with this:
    Nightmare class: 900 million resource units each
    Abyssal class:2.5 billion resource units each
    Harbinger class: 200 million resource units each
    Herald class: 30 million resource units each
    Queen class: 6 billion resource units each

    Using these figures, a sample battle might include Silux using 20,000 destroyers against a single Xindhi queen.

    One man's destroyer is another man's battlecruiser. Larger ships aren't necessarily a good thing when you're working with a resource cost, if you prefer swarm tactics instead.

    I agree. The Xindhi fleet has some large ships but not many because of the cost in the universe setting they belong to. It's a more stand off fleet, not really for swarming or mixing it up with smaller ships. Which is why they carry unmanned/manned interceptors. I also removed the sand caster defenses for the ships.

    Indeed. I hadn't anticipated this as a Fleet battle scenario, rather a singular ship showdown. I will make some more anyway to fit in. I have plenty of designs (SELF BUILT YAY) so it's no problem.
