Daeh can drive people to madness just by speaking to them in a voice which people of limited sentience (humans q.q) cannot understand.
He can also manipulate things into shapes which are beyond our ability to comprehend, driving us insane.
He can look at us, and drive us insane.
But there's more fun ways to do it, so he uses them. The actual true mad god is a faceless being which exists to contain the negative energy of madness everywhere at every time to stop it spreading like a disease and driving everyone insane, causing the universe to implode.
Or something along those lines.
Daeh is simply the representation of that force, and sometimes a little madness leaks from the seams.
