    Hack & Slash 'Em

    The original hack & slash role playing game.


    For years, the small town of Vallenwood has lived in peace and prosperity. Its days are full of sunshine as the residents remain healthy and safe. The lumber and farming industries contribute to the thriving economy. Travelers from near and far occupy its bustling marketplace. All is well.
    However, recently the peace has been disrupted by an evil lurking deep in the mountains to the northeast. Several unexplained disappearances have instilled fear into the townsfolk. Rumors suggest a band of hobgoblins have been kidnapping small children and taking them into the woods. Expensive shipments have been disappearing from the
    Warehouse District as well. The mayor sent a ragtag search party to investigate but they were never seen again.
    A drunkard by the name of
    Jowns is the only person to have made contact with the hobgoblins and lived to tell the tale. He is well known within Vallenwood as the smelly old man who frequents the Tavern when not aimlessly wandering the streets in a drunken stupor.

    Now, a group of worthy adventurers have arrived. Word has carried forth to the mayor. The townsfolk whisper among themselves in curiosity of the newcomers. A faint hope leads way to one definite question:
    Are they strong enough to defeat the terrible creatures of the mountain?

    Below is a map of the landscape and the surrounding locales, as well as a very brief description of each locale. I know this map is not the greatest, but it should at least give you somewhat of an idea of what the landscape looks like.


    Darkenwood Forest - A large maze-like forest which holds dark secrets within.
    Dragonspine Hills - A stretch of low-lying mountains separating the inland from the coast.
    Eastwall - A small trading village nestled in between swampland and mountains.
    Haven - Another small trading village. This one is centered in the vast expanse of grassy lowlands.
    Kron - A small fortress-like town serving as home to a famous fighter guild.
    Kron Mountains - A seemingly endless stretch of deadly mountainous terrain.
    Land Of Lost Souls - A very large expanse of grassy lowlands.
    Middleton - A small commoner village nestled between Darkenwood and the Kron Mountains.
    Northwall - A small barbarian village located deep within the mountains.
    Ogre Caves - A maze of underground tunnels leading to an Ogre cavern.
    Pirate Coast - Separated from the inland by a mountainous range, the Pirate Coast is basically a playground to an array of ruthless swashbucklers.
    Portmore - A small fishing village on the northwest coast.
    Riverbend - Another small fishing village. This one is located at the bend of a large river (explaining its acquired name).
    Sanction - A large sea-side city on the east coast.
    Shadow Marsh - A large expanse of swampland hiding a mysterious evil beneath it's murky water.
    Silvaethien - A large Elven metropolis.
    Skullcap - The haunted ruins of an old fishing village.
    Solace - A small Elven village nestled at the edge of Whisperwood.
    Vallenwood - The village where the characters start out at.
    Westgate - A small commoner village.
    Whisperwood - A decent sized forest, rumored to be haunted.
    Whitehorn River - A large river, winding west through the Land Of Lost Souls.

    Okay, so this is the first adventure (in what I hope will be a successful series consisting of several other adventures). It will begin in the small town of Vallenwood. We will spend some time there, talking to the townsfolk and gathering information as we prepare. Then, we will head east, into the mountains, as we track down the band of hobgoblins. With a bandwagon full of kidnapped children, they will lead us on a treacherous journey north, through the heavy wind and snow of the Kron Mountains, to the small barbaric village of Northwall. Once there, we will discover an evil which proves to be much more ruthless than the measly hobgoblins. (*Wink Wink*) But don't worry, its not going to be just fighting the whole time. There will be a good mixture of dialogue and casual role playing to help character and story development as well.

    The rules are simple:
    -
    No God-modding. You will take damage from time to time and will have to heal yourselves.
    - No OOC bursts in the IC thread. If you have an issue, solve it here or with me through PM.
    - No over-powering other characters or attempting to be "superior" - this is a GROUP effort.
    - No one-liners or spamming. Please try to maintain a 2 paragraph minimum in your posts.
    - If you are going to leave the Rp, then please kill off your character. Do not leave them hanging.
    - Please use proper spelling and grammar.
    - Have fun and be creative.

    Class: Spell-sword

    Weapons:
    ~ Bastard Sword – Izaka is proficient in the use of many bladed weapons, but he prefers this weapon above all others. The unique length of its handle means that the blade is balance for quick, single-handed strikes, as well as more powerful two-handed blows.
    ~ Knives – Izaka always carries a set of three concealed knives with him. He can use these in conjunction with his sword, or with other knives, but usually they serve him most handily as miniature projectiles.
    ~ Throwing Axe – An item Izaka rarely uses, but always keeps as a pre-caution, this smaller, slimmer version of the normal single-handed war-axe is used as a thrown projectile, though the weight of the weapon makes its accuracy limited.

    Gear:
    ~ Steel Breast-Plate – Used to protect his chest from slashes and stabs, it is a durable material of medium weight.
    ~ Steel Vambraces – Used to protect the fore-arms and tops of his hands, these items prevent the enemy from cutting off his fingers or otherwise limiting his ability to wield weapons.
    ~ Steel Greaves – Used to protect his shins.
    ~ Cloak – Standard brown traveler's cloak. Made of a durable material that protects the wearer from harsh weather.

    Bio:
    Izaka grew up in the far north, on the edge of a desert region inhabited mostly by tribes of native Nagina. From time to time others would move to make settlements near the desert's rim, for it contained many precious jewels and minerals. He was the off-spring of a bastard marriage between a Naga father and his human peasant lover. After the affair was broken off, he was left in the care of his mother, who worked day in and day out in the mines. Once he was old enough, Izaka followed suit.

    Quickly becoming dissatisfied with life as a humble miner, he began to readily anticipate any opportunity to leave the settlement and strike out on his own. The opportunity came with the death of his mother, who was by this time well into old age. Selling his now vacant house and all his property, he exchanged them for a sword and some meager traveling equipment setting off south to build his own destiny.

    For a while he made his living as a jack of all trades, selling his services to anyone in any place quickly becoming semi-proficient in a variety of stations, from fighting monsters to tracking down lost pets to locating rare ingredients. After some time, he came into contact with a few other travelers who were much like himself and fell in with them, figuring he could make more headway working as a team effort than going it alone.

    Weapons:
    - Two large, bladed weapons with curved handles, forged from tempered steel. Their edges are enchanted to cause instant, severe frostbite at the site of the wounds they inflict.
    - Two throwing knives are hidden beneath the plated armour on her legs.

    Gear: Little else apart from the leg armour, two shoulder plates, and leather braces on her wrists, each enhanced by three sharp, steel shark fin-shaped blades. The lack of attire she makes up for in stealth, speed and dexterity.

    Bio:
    Lyra was born, and has lived most of her life in, the cold reaches of Northwall. A woman with a heart as icy as her environment, she showed no mercy towards friend or foe alike. At the young age of 16, she struck down her own parents out of her rebellion, and slipped out during the wee hours of the morning. Never regretting what she had done, no-one ever found about her terrible deed, and she spent the next year wandering the frigid wastelands, hunting for herself and surviving.

    Her upbringing and environment had made her highly resistant to cold temperatures, and so she thought to don a skimpy outfit as to preserve a little bit of modesty over gaining any protection. After wandering the wastelands for so long, she finally came across another mountainous village, where she stayed. By the next morning, the elder of the village was found slain, throat slashed open, while some of the villager's money pouches were missing. Yet again Lyra had taken to the open wastelands. When she had turned 19, she left the cold mountains once and for all, seeking more 'exciting' prospects out in the land. After much snooping, stalking, ransacking, and some cold-blooded murdering, she came across a small group of travelers that looked welcome enough to her practised eye. She decided to hold back her blades for now, and follow.

    Blonde with grey eyes. 6'5 and with a body packed with natural muscle. He has a chiseled jaw and broad sloping shoulders. His hair is cut tight so no one can grab hold of it in the heat of a battle. Ripped with a six pack and his body is in proportion.

    Class: Berserker
    Weapons: A hefty claymore and a hatchet at his side.
    Gear: Whatever he could get his hands on really.
    Steel Plate armour for his shoulders and chest.
    A norse style iron helmet to cover his nose.
    A red cloak.
    Steel greaves.
    Heavy boots.
    Bio: Turgon's childhood was a normal one for any of the residents of Northwall. Violent, brutal and mundane. The tribe lived off of the land and whatever the raiding party's brought back and so Turgon's life went about the same way it always did until his rite of passage. The 14 year old boy who underwent this initiation was meant to take a beating from a group of 10 fully grown men until he was battered, bloody and beaten to the point of uncosciousness and when revived they would shower him in mead and his manhood would begin with song and ribald jokes. However it did not go that way. He did end up beaten and bloodied but he was not unconscious. Instead he was left there panting heavily and regaining a sense of his surroundings, the colour entering his vision again. The older men lay sprawled upon the ground their moans reaching the sky. From that day onward he was know as Turgon the mighty and was made a member of the raiding party. The time went by and as his renown throughout the village grew so did the prestige of his family until his expulsion from the tribe. He was out hunting one day when he stumbled across a sight that made his blood boil.

    On the mossy stony mountainous terrain was the son of the village chief having his way with his sister. He went wild with the rage that only a protective brother could have. He lost his temper and when he came to the other boy was dead on the ground, his arm pulled out of it's socket, his face an unrecognisable mish mash of stone and bone crunched together. His sister was crying and urging him to leave. He would have to run and he would have to get as far away from the town as he could or the chief would have him killed. Panicked and not thinking straight he ran off into the distance with only his claymore, his hatchet and the clothes on his back. For 7 years he has wandered as a mercenary selling his sword to the highest bidder wandering from town to town taking what work he can, until he found a group of adventurers like himself, the closest thing he had to a family in a long time. Along his travels his mind often wanders back to Northwall where the snow flakes drifted down the mountain onto the roof of his family's wooden hut, where he and his sister used to play as children and where their mother would call them in for their supper. His mind often wanders where his body can't for fear of death, perhaps from shame.

    Weapons: Primarily changes parts of his own body into weapons. Is capable of using weapons if it comes across it.
    Gear: Bags of Holding, one of them filled with various potions. Has natural armor like that of steel, but with regenerative properties.
    Bio: There is little history of the creature named Veritas. Created in the Darkenwood Forest by a witch, it was one of many of her thralls that she made for entertainment and protection. Originally, it was just another mindless soldier; left to defend the witch or sent to attack who she whims, until one day, he was sent to attack a traveling mage. The mage was easily killed due to Veritas advantage of surprise, but as he ate the body to dispose of it, he ate a Soul Gem; a magical object that can retain the sentience of those sealed within. With it, Veritas was able to slowly gain it's own sentience. But it was slow to develop, but it did interest his creator; seeing that Veritas could become more powerful then the other creations, she sent him out to the world to get stronger. One day, when he was strong enough, he would return to the Darkenwood Forest, and continue to serve her and give her his power.

    For a while, Veritas "trained". Being a slightly sentient being, his powers were slow to develop. But eventually, Veritas grew to know how to use his powers, and to think for himself. despite this, he still instinctively serves his creator, who occasionally speaks through him if she manages to find him through Scrying. this was how he met up with a group of travelers; upon her orders, he sought out a band of adventurers who could assist him in his growth. After negotiating his worth, Veritas now travels with a group of adventurers, acting as the pack mule and the intimidating monster, or whatever purpose he would be needed for.
