A Realm Divided (Open World Fantasy RPG Interest Check)

This is an RP idea I've had floating around for quite a while in my head; an open-world, almost MMO-style RPG where players can essentially travel around and do whatever they please, visiting different territories, questing, and levelling up. I have most of the world already thought up, as well as an intricate three-tier class system that is based heavily around multiclassing. The world is split into 8 main factions that players can choose to join, some of which are on good terms, others at war. There are also smaller factions, like bandit clans, that players can join instead, or they could even become a mercenary with no affiliation at all. Players would be able to adventure alone, gather NPC companions, or work with other players. I'll happily answer questions and provide more details to anyone who is interested.

This seems like a pretty ambiguous project. How long would you expect it to last?

Seeing as there's no central plotline it could theoretically last as long as players remain interested, although if it stretches on to the point that everyone reaches the end of their class trees I would probably organize some sort of finale to it.

This sounds interesting, but I'm just curious how the class system will work in a text-based rpg.. ?

The class system essentially is just to provide your character with a fighting style/powers as a guideline for what your combat capabilities are. The abilities you are given aren't necessarily all you can do, they're just supposed to give you an idea of your character's skill level. For example, the Warrior class at level 1 would only be a basic fighter, and so his abilities are basic striking moves to correspond to that. Like I said, this is just a guideline; I'm not trying to limit how creative you can be in combat, just trying to lay out a progression system so your character develops and becomes more powerful throughout the RP.

As for the workings of the system itself, it has three tiers; Base classes, specialized classes, and master classes. A base class is simplified and rather general, like a Warrior or a Shadowmancer. These classes can level up to 5 before moving up to a specialized class, which involves multiclassing with another base class to create a new one (an example would be Rogue + Barbarian = Savage). Specialized classes have more diverse and specific talents, and generally are more powerful. At level 10, they will be able to add a third base class to create a master class (i.e. Warrior + Priest + Shadowmancer = Blood Knight). Master classes are the most powerful and can continue levelling up until the point where I run out of abilities to give you and decide to end the RP altogether.
