Real Name: Seamus O'Connell
Goes by: Slow
Aliases: The Fourth L,
S.
Age: 20
-
Date of Birth: January 28, 2000
Place of Birth: Clifden,
Ireland.
Personality: Slow, having been raised in two separate orphanages, the latter of which being none other than
Wammy's House, was raised almost devoid of human interaction, and as such, could be called extremely childish and nearly antisocial, however, as can be expected by any Wammy Child, Slow is prodigiously intelligent and cunning, almost to the point of it being frightening to those he has worked with. Seamus can also be classified as nocturnal, as he seems to work best during night, and has reiterated multiple times that he is a night person. Despite being raised as one of the prospective successors to the
L name, Slow developed a deep sense of justice, and some would say this has resulted in him making a very poor
L, as he often refuses to use the more malicious methods of gaining information, however, this is constantly undermined by his best friend and adoptive brother
Kyle Zacharus, who uses his role as Watari to get information himself, and then present it to Slow, the means of how he got such intel is never a subject for discussion between the two, as Slow believes that any argument he presents to Watari could potentially shatter their friendship, something Seamus purposefully restricts from happening, given just how attached he has become to Kyle over their years together.
History: The Fourth
L, born Seamus O'Connell, was born the day of Light Yagami's death at the hands of Ryuk, some would call this the irony of fate, Seamus calls it nothing more than a coincidence. Seamus' parents were nothing more than street urchins who didn't have enough money for either morning after pills or an abortion (his mother failed to perform some of the more brutal forms of the task), and as such, the boy who would become the successor to
L was born in god knows where, though, merely days after his birth, his parents abandoned him at an orphanage in Clifden named "The Quillish Orphanarium" it was here that Seamus was not only given his believed "true" name of Slow, but first began to show his extraordinary intelligence, and by the age of eight, he was already the equivalent of a freshman in High School. It was at this time that the former Watari (
Roger Ruvie) transferred the young Slow to Wammy's House, where he would hone his skills for the next eight years.
During his first day at Wammy's House, Slow was the target of a group of bullies, who proceeded to beat him up as best as a group of eleven year olds could, however, midway through the altercation, the fight was broken up by a fellow orphan named
Kabal (Kyle). After running the older boys off, Kabal and Slow played a quiet game of connect four, and soon after became inseparable friends, and both would eventually become the front runners to become the new
L, the "Near and Mello" of their day, so to speak. Kyle was Slow's first choice as the new Watari following Roger's death.
Seamus recalls one day at the age of ten when a tall white haired man visited the orphanage, Slow was one of the first children shown to who would later reveal himself as Near, during the short conversation the two shared, Near brought up the subject of just how far Slow would go in order to solve a case, at the time, Seamus could do nothing but stare into the man's eyes and ponder his answer, however, he would never have the opportunity to do so, as Roger interrupted their exchange before he could do so. Later that day, it would be revealed to Slow that the man was none other than
L, the famous detective that Seamus had been taught about his entire life in both orphanages. When Near was set to leave Wammy's House to return to his detective work, the young Seamus begged Near to be taken with him, and both Watari and Near shot him down as fast as you could think they could, though, with yet another smile on his face, the third L bequeathed Seamus a yo-yo, and to this day, Slow addresses Near as something of an adopted father, and is never seen without the memento.
At the age of 15,
L silently pronounced Slow as his chosen successor to Roger, and had the young man dispatched to Africa, where Near was then working, to become something of an assistant or intern to
L. Under his own alias of
S, Seamus solved many cases of arms and human trafficking within such countries as Somalia and Nigeria, quickly impressing the likes of both Watari and Near even further than he already did, Near (using the
L name) even publicly acknowledged
S as his apprentice to the
ICPO, which immediately skyrocketed
S' already growing reputation. After only three years as a sort of adopted son to Near, Seamus took up the mantle of
L, even selecting Kyle as his own Watari after the untimely death of Robert Ruvie. He has rarely used the name for the two years he has had it, instead working as his already world renowned alias of
S, working as his own personal buffer, using the name of
S, Slow has even begun a fun hobby of his called "Speed casing", where he solves menial and daily cases of murder and the like as fast as he can, some amongst the alumni of Wammy's House that have personally worked with him would say that Slow is attempting to build up the reputation of
S to
L like levels, and perhaps even overcome it. Immediately after finding out about the rise of another Kira has Seamus completely disregarded this buffer, immediately dispatching Watari to the ICPO in order to deliver an address and make his requests to the international organization, using the full reputation of the
L name.
Quirks:
- When thinking heavily, he grabs both of his earlobes and pulls them downward, similarly, as a sign of affection, he will grab a person's left earlobe and pull it down while simultaneously pulling his own lobe down.
- Practically always sits upside down, he rationalizes this by saying the blood rushing to his brain allows him to deduce cases and evidence faster, as can be expected, most of the screens and TVs in his base are purposely placed upside down because of this.
- Constantly eats fruit such as apples, grapes, and oranges.
- He has also only been seen wearing hooded sweatshirts and cargo shorts, the majority of the time the hoodie will bare logos from various movies and video games, similarly, he never wears socks, most oftentimes walking either barefoot or with sandals.
- Never seen without a rather large, beat up yo-yo given to him by Near.
- Left-handed.
- Oddly, despite being a world renowned detective, he can only read, write, and speak English, he either uses Watari or an advanced headset translator in order to speak to foreigners, he often makes it a rule that all that are able speak English while he is present.
