I'll be honest, I like the fact that there's no option to surrender.

There is nothing as frustrating as spending all that time playing, slowly building up your champion and then having the rest of the team surrender, especially if you're playing as a character who gets much tougher in the late game.

^ this. Surrendering makes me feel like we didn't let them fully work for it. It's never over until it's over. I had a match with nothing but yordles and a Riven whilst opposing Darius, Olaf, Kat, Cho, and someone else. While they were hammering away at our final two turrets and we were fending them off, Riven had back doored all the way to the nexus and won it for us. POINT BEING, surrender is never an option for me.

DotA was originally a mod for WarCraft III that spawned the entire ARTS/MOBA genre. Spinoffs include League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth. Dota 2 is a sequel currently developed by Valve together with Icefrog, the last original developer of the WarCraft III mod. It's basically the exact same game as DotA but not ugly.

Icefrog actually joined Valve? Wasn't he bitching at Valve a while ago and lost a lawsuit to the name or something? I'm not making that drama up, right?

And by surrender, I mean me and someone else hopelessly fighting against a full team of enemies until they destroy our ancient.

Icefrog's been working together with Valve the whole time, so... any changes he makes to the DotA mod are immediately patched into Dota 2 with a so called 'parity update'. It's a close cooperation.
