Protettore is a pureblood vampire and is the current Giordano Don. He worked his way up through the ranks and when the last Giordano Don died, he took over. He has been in control of the family for many years now and only surrounds himself with only people he trusts.
As a child, his parents were kidnapped and taken away. Afterwards, he grew up on a pirate ship with his uncle and his boss/partner/boyfriend thing and they thought him how to be the ruthless person he is today. Well, more Jecht than Trixxtal. Trixxtal just made him food while Jecht trained him. When his parents were rescued and returned, Protettore went to go live with them again, but he wasn't the same sweet boy they once knew, he was a cold blooded killer. He still has a good relationship with his parents, but prefers his uncles a lot more.

Valente is a powerful magician who was hunted down by Protettore for his magic. Before joining forces with the Vampire Mafia, Valente worked for the Wizard's Council, which is like the Ministry of Magic from the Harry Potter series. He was something like a parole officer, who watched over young wizards to make sure they didn't misuse their magic. But after a string of unfortunate and random events, Valente was kicked out of the Council and a bounty was put on his head.
While running from his fellow wizards, he ran into Protettore who just so happened to be searching for a wizard himself. He offered Valente a once in a life time deal; he'd protect Valente from the Wizards if he came and worked for him. Valente didn't like the idea of joining forces with the likes of a vampire, but he didn't have a choice.
He agreed.
He has worked for Protettore for many years now. He makes it possible for the Protettore's steel fortress to move. It takes a toll on him if he uses his magic consecutively for a long time, so once in a while, the fortress has to make rest stops.
He doesn't involve himself in the Don's mafia doings like going out and killing members from the other vampire mafia. His job is to only move the fortress and heal wounded members, but once in a while, he'll use his magic as an attack. His relationship with Protettore is that of any boss/subordinate, but Valente often crosses that line. He's a trickster by nature and often makes fun of the Don and the other members, but knows that he'll get away with it because Protettore needs him to move his headquaters.
Because he has people after him, he has put a charm on the fortress so no one can sense what is inside and he is also a shapeshifter, so if Protettore ever needs him to leave the castle, he'll turn into a dog or a cat, or even a bat to fit Protettore's vampireness.
