Tarantino, one of the few men I will ever love. Along with Robert Rodriguez and George Romero.

I loved the movie, but couldn't help but think Dr. Schultz was a massive hypocrite.

    Also, MAJOR SPOILERS ahead!

First, he basically tells Django the only way to get his wife back was to act like a black slaver, basically doing to others the same degrading, horrible shit that was done to him. He even went so far as to act like he didn't care for another slave and basically condoning Candy unleashing dogs to maul the slave to death without flinching or breaking his role. He had to become the very thing he hated to get his wife back, even though it was slavery that separated him from Hilda and he managed to retain his composure after seeing her basically get tortured.

Then, after they were caught, they basically had the best case scenario in that situation where Candy was willing to sell them Hilda for the same price they agreed to for the champion-worthy fighter and let them go after the deal was concluded. I would like to point out that they were originally going to spend the 12,000 on the fighter and another 300 on Hilda because Schultz saying he was German and wanted someone to speak his native tongue with. So, in short, they save 300 dollars and leave with their lives and Hilda. The doctor, being outraged and unable to suck up his own pride by shaking Candy's hand to seal the deal, instead tries everything to get out of it, and then decides in a fit of impulse to shoot Candy, resulting in the massive shootout that leaves dozens dead, Django tortured and about to be sold to the worst possible slave owners in the region.

Now, after asking Django to set aside his own feelings and become the very thing that destroyed his own life, beat him, made him lose his freedom, and such, is unable to set aside his own personal feelings for five fucking seconds for a handshake. And Django had to basically be party to a man getting ripped apart by dogs, watching two black men fight to the death, and degrading other slaves and 'put them in their place', so to speak. He'd been infinitely more wronged than Schultz ever was, and he went along with it to get his wife back. All the doctor had to do was suck it up, shake Candy's hand, and they could have all left free and unharmed.

If I were Django, I would have been pissed.
