    Workplace stories

Okay so this should be interesting
I work at Baskin-Robbins and have for a year and I've seen some shit in my time there, it's located right next to a welfare office and up the street a bit is a jail so we get some interesting customers.
I'll get into to that later but anyway, something common at my work is people mispronouncing or just making up their own names for half some flavors of ice cream

Pralines and cream for instance, it can be said with either a soft or hard "A" and it'll be correct just depends on where you're from but I've heard people say:
    Paralines
    Prinillies
    Prarielines
    and every other variation

Also no one knows how to say Jamoca, they either just say Mocha or Jamaica, and a man asked me completely seriously if Jamoca was an Island close to Jamacia.

Anyone have workplace stories or little stuff like that they would like to share?
    No matter where you go
    there you are.

Used to do the landscaping around two factories that shared a site. One of them made pet food and birds used to get in to the storage bays and pick out the chickens feet from the bits. Then they dropped them in the car park for me doing the litter pick. Delightful.

and he shall smite the wicked and plunge them into the fiery pit

I've had a woman ask me if she could get chicken breasts, but in brown meat.

To which I replied: Not unless you sit on it.

    She didn't get it.

I worked at a movie theater for like a year and a half (maybe longer? Who remembers) and I never gave obese people extra butter when they asked for it. That's not really a story, but this is: when the movie 2012 came to theaters a woman walked in and tried to engage the manager in a loud argument about how the end of times was real and that we were blasphemers for playing a movie that turned such a serious issue into a piece of entertainment. She also told us that she and her husband were moving to Mexico because it for some reason was going to be okay. She was carrying a bible. She also ended up paying to watch that same movie.

When i worked as a server at Ruby Tuesdays, i was waiting on two women who were being complete assholes. I remember they complained about everything under the stars. So when they had finished their meal, i asked them if they wanted dessert. Bear in mind both of these ladies were Obese. Anyway, they bitch about how they weren't even done with their main meal, even though their plates were empty, and say "No, we don't want dessert." Then i remember just blurting out, "Like you need it anyway fat ass."

That caused a pretty big shit storm.

I work as a lifeguard at a local public pool and I'm out on deck. My co-worker John is at the diving area, doing his job, when this woman walks up to me and starts complaining about how she thinks he isn't looking at another section of his "scan" long enough. Bear in mind this is the diving area, where the diving board is... Which means lots of really, really, really stupid little unsupervised children. He has to watch the kids getting on the diving board to make sure they only jump once the last jumper gets back to the wall. If they've been particularly idiotic, lifeguards are pretty much forced to keep a longer eye on the diving board alone. A broken back because some kid jumps on another has a much higher priority than a drowner, to be quite honest. One is instant, the other has any variable amount of time.

So she comes up to me complaining about how he's not looking at one end of his scan section, when he's quite obviously having trouble with the kids on the diving board; you can hear him yelling consistently and pointing his finger. So I look at her and tell her quite calmly and sincerely,

"Well, I'm on duty myself right now, so if you want to express your concerns I think you should tell him yourself." Unless she walked inside the building to tell my manager, she'd just be waiting 15 minutes for me to get time off to go tell John, which by then could have been well past the time someone drowned or whatever. If she wanted something changed, she'd need to tell him.

She just starts walking away and goes, "That's your job, not mine."

    Fuck. Patrons.

This is nice, it's as if we're all sitting by a camp fire, roasting marshmallows and making smores.

The customer is hardly ever right and is usually an idiot
Also one time it was like 5 minutes after closinga nd some lady and her kids came up to the door and we're like
We're closed lady" and she said they were just gonna get some pre-packed quarts which they did so no problem there, and her kids felt sorry for us cause I guess they worked in retail, but the mom was just like "Oh I'm not sorry I don't work in retail, but they are" I just stared at her holding her ice cream until she realised what she said and her eyes got all wide, so I bagged her shit and told her to get out

I work with kids, not much to tell, though they do say some funny things. I'll just listen in.

I use to work at Dollar General, so I have a few. xD

Let me start one, though, with a little backstory. When I was 6, my parents left $20 on the kitchen counter and I grabbed it, stuck it in my pocket, and went to school. I thought I was the richest kid in the world and as I was standing in line for Lunch, I was showing my friends the money and an older girl came up and just snatched it from my hands and took off. I get home and I tell my parents (I didn't know that what I had done was considered stealing) that I saw the money and I took it to school with me. This money, it turned out, was actually suppose to be given to me anyway since it was my lunch money, but I digress. About fifteen minutes later, a car pulls up into the driveway and out comes the girl who stole the money and her mother. They come inside; the mom gives us back the money and then spanks her daughter in front of us to prove to my parents that she was punished and then they left.

Now, fast forward roughly 13 years.

I was a cashier at DG and it was summer. We had in a lot of customers and were pretty busy. A woman comes in who I immediately recognize as the woman from the former story. I watch her for a moment and then get back to work. A little while later, my manager comes up to me when no one is in my line and tells me in my ear to go over the intercom and say, "Security Check on all cameras. Security Check on all cameras." I thought he was joking so I laughed and said, "Why? We've never done that before." He tells me then to leave the register and go to Aisle 8 (where our meat products are) and to not look suspicious. I do as I'm told and I'm watching from Aisle 7 and what do I see? The woman is taking hamburger meat and chicken and all of that good stuff and shoving it in her over-sized purse. I go back to my register, look at my manager like "Are you kidding me?", and announce over the intercom what he had told me to say. The woman, not even a minute later, is running out of the store with nothing at all and she never comes back. This whole time, she was being watched by all of the employees, basically and she was too dumb to notice.

    Talk about setting an example.
