Here's my thought: It's about a week after the outbreaks started, A few miles south of Chicago. The basics of what the hell is going on has been hammered down, so the majority of people know that dead are rising, yeah yeah we've all been here before. The extent of knowledge can vary from character to character.
Basically, this isn't a thread for your character to be Mr. Badass, born leader, whatever it may be. The strong, thoughtful, leader in the middle of a crisis is a rare trait. The guy who isn't scare when his life is in danger isn't common, and if he isn't scared, he's nuts. I'm thinking we play this a real as it can be, as brutal and as thoughtful about human nature as it can be. The apocalypse isn't a happy time. Also, lots of people die. I for one think being willing to kill off your own character is a good story developer (and it doesn't mean you can't bring someone else in). Don't go thinking that's a requirement, but I for one think it's a good thing to think about.
I've got a few ideas rumbling around in my head, as of right now I'm thinking 4-6 people is a good size (can do more if people convince me it can not turn into a cluster fuck). I can start hammering out the details if anyone shows any interest. I'm thinking 3-4 characters have a "role" to fill, and the other few can be wild cards.
1) My character, younger man, 30's. Backstory and all that can be fleshed out later.
2) Male/Female (doesn't matter), Character 1's childhood friend. Been around each other since they were 10. Both were driving into the city when everything went to hell.
3) Male/Female, Teenager (15ish), Neighbor to Character 2. Picked up by 1 and 2 as they fled.
4) Male, Character 3's father. Older, in his 50's.
3 and 4 can be played with a little bit, or left out. I just thought that would be an interesting starting group with a couple wild cards if people don't want to fit that mold (don't expect to be with a group when it starts, though, or make your own).
Side note: Completely evil characters won't make sense immediately, since it's early in the outbreak. If you want to change sides, there's always the killing off option (that's why I think it's a good idea). But don't go killing off characters every 10 seconds. It doesn't make for a good story if you just spaz around.
