"Memories"
They make up our past, our present, and our plans for the future.
They allow us to answer questions about ourselves like what we have been through or who we have ever known.
They give us reasons for taking action and our reasons for the way we act.
But most importantly... They define "who" we are.
"So...without them, do we possess no meaning? Does that mean I am...meaningless?"
It was getting a little late. A man walked into the place known as Clockwork Town, his long white hair flowing behind him as his fierce blue eyes gazed at the darkened streets. He wore a strange, pitch black garment that looked like it would be some incredibly formal clothing one would wear to a fancy party. His clothes seemed strange though, as when Nero walked under a light his coattails seemed to actually be slightly wispy for only a single moment that only the most observant eye would probably be able to notice. He also wore gloves that were also pitch black over his hands. What seemed so strange about his clothes, besides the incredibly small and strange black "wisps" that came off of them was that they seemed to appear to be just one single garment rather than multiple, but Nero knew that even the truly observant would have a hard time catching that bit, so he wasn't worried.
"So this is Clockwork Town?" he asks himself quietly as he continued to examine the surroundings. "So this is that place that rang with familiarity in the completely blank landscape that used to be my memory" he thought to himself as he soon began to hold one of his black gloved hands to his forehead for a moment as he closed his eyes, his expression being one who was cringing in pain for just a few moments before he seemed to finally regain his composure. Once his composure was regained his lips curled up into a smirk for just a few moments.
"That pain...makes the ten day trip and all the trouble that happened along the way worth it, perhaps I can begin to collect lost shards of myself here" he muttered. With that thought stored in his mind, a destination set, and a deep breath to calm himself down, Nero set off from the entrance to the town and headed inward towards one place that seemed even more "familiar" than the rest. The one thing that rang out in his mind the most was the large clock tower that loomed over the town like a colossus, which made the behemoth structure his first target of investigation.
Since he didn't remember Clockwork Town that much though he ended up getting lost several times. Even with the behemoth clock tower as a guiding beacon, it took him a good fifteen minutes just to get to its base where he began to look around and walk around the general area. After a bit of aimless wandering in the areas near the clock tower, since he didn't really know where to go from there, a strange new sight greeted his eyes. It was a large building that appeared to be quite bustling, but what mainly took Nero's attention was the sign on the building. As he read its words his eyes shut tightly as he held his gloved hand to his forehead once again.
"This...is it..." he cringed after a few moments of finally beginning to calm down. The building before him seemed to be the source of all of the ringing in his head that came from this particular town. After finally calming down, he put his hands in his pockets and pushed forward, yawning a small bit as he did as he was tired, but he wasn't going to let that get a hold of him now when this sort of thing was right before him. Nero didn't know what sort of place he had here or what made this building seem so familiar to him, but he figured he would find that out as he entered the building and took in the surroundings.
As he walked in his bright, topaz-like eyes widened at just how busy the place seemed. Nero wasn't much one for extremely noisy crowds, so something like this took him aback a little. Despite that, he knew the best thing to do was to just talk to someone and ask them exactly what this place was. He began to peer around the room, looking for someone that he could ask without seeming too intrusive or like he didn't belong there. Of course, another thing he was doing was taking in the surroundings, which seemed to have a small ring of familiarity, but not a whole lot for some reason. Eventually Nero's eyes settled upon a strange board that had a cluster of different types of people surrounding it. He decided he would start there as he slowly walked over to the board.
His eyes peered over what was posted on it, mainly noting the two "missions" that were attached to the board. From what Nero could surmise, this was some sort of place where people took on requests, but even that could be completely different from what it actually was. Deciding to get a little more information, Nero turned to those at the table right next to the board and asked "This..."mission"...what exactly is it?" He appeared to be clearly lost from the sound of his voice, which in actuality was pretty true since he really did have no idea where he was at the current moment as it was only the call of his missing memories that guided him here.
