Dual Survival (LoneWolfie and I are Chris)

"I'll always have your back Lillian. And I'm not complaining either. No one I'd rather be stuck with. Besides, ya got a nice back anyway," Christian said, with a wolfish grin, and a wink. He laughed at Lillian's face afterwards and cocked his head to the side, giving her a genuine smile. He was a sight. Christian was stained with blood. It was everywhere. He reeked of sweat and pennies. But through all that grit and dirt and blood, his teeth were still as white as ever, maybe more so than usual. It gave a strange contrast on his face, all that white under such gore. But his smile quickly fade, replaced again by his cold facade that he had to put on to survive. The transformation was smooth, much like falling asleep. Slowly, and then all at once.

"Time to move on. Lets check the other buildings."

    TIME SKIPADEEDOODAH

Christian wrenched the door of the garage open and ushered Lillian inside. He closed the door behind him, and put his back agains the door with a sigh of relief. They could rest now, at least for the night. They had found a decent amount of supplies. Some rope, a new weapon for Lil (I'll let you decide what that is), first aid kit, some hand sanitizer (Christian insisted on washing their hands), one of those water bottles with a filter in it, and some duct tape. Chris was impressed at what they had gathered with just a few short hours. And he had a couple of ideas of where to get more. But that was later. Now, it was time to rest.

"Alright. Any injuries? Cuts, scrapes, or scratches? Twisted ankle?" Christian asked Lil as he walked into the waiting room. He plopped himself on the couch, and patted the seat next to him with a smile.

Lillian was surprised when Christian hit on her again. Though, she shouldn't had been. He had done it before but still, she hadn't expected it anymore. She felt her cheeks darken the slightest as she looked at Christian with wide eyes. She couldn't help but notice, even with all the blood and grit on him, he was still handsome. She felt a smile slowly spread across her face and she shook her head, not sure how to react to that. She liked Christian a lot. He was keeping her sane through all of this. She didn't like the way his face turned back into that cold facade but she knew it had to happen. They couldn't joke all the time, couldn't smile through all this. One of them had to be serious and ready for anything. She was still collecting her bearings. She did feel guilty for Christian taking on the weight of a lot of things but she would get there, she knew it. She let her own smile drop and she nodded, ready to get this over with. She was ready to rest and just hope this was all some horrible nightmare.

She was relieved the rest of the scouting trip went smoothly. No other problems. And the best thing was that she had gotten a new weapon. A crowbar which should be very efficient in the end. She was glad to be back in the familiar place of the garage, even with the sadness and pain she felt looking around and not seeing Randy anywhere. She followed Christian into the waiting room. She was ready to just sit around and rest. She was ready for sleep. She put her crowbar on the table and plopped down beside Christian, their shoulders bumping as she returned the smile. It felt so good to just sink back into the couch and relax a little. "Nah, just really tired." she said, hesitating before she shifted a little and laid her head on Christian's shoulder.

When Lillian sat beside him, and their shoulders touched, Christian felt electricity flow through his entire body. He let out a breath, and closed his eyes. He was tired. So tired. He never remembered feeling so utterly exhausted. Suddenly, Christian felt Lillian lay her head on his shoulder. His breath caught for a moment, and his heart rate increased. But just as quickly, he let out his breath and melted into it. He rested his head against her's and closed his eyes again. He took a deep breath, and let it out, feeling calm for the first time since he had woken up.

Her warm body was a comfort. Feeling her pressed against him, so close, it felt amazing. No one had gotten this close to him in a long time. He hadn't had a girlfriend for over a year, and barely had any platonic female friends. And through all of the horror that had gone on, this, this was the one nice thing that had happened to him all day.

"You know," Christian mumbled softly, "You are very comfy."

Lillian was enjoying the closeness with Christian. Today had been very stressful and painful and insane and it felt good to just be near someone alive, breathing. Someone she owed so much too. She couldn't remember the last time she felt so comfortable and so tired. Her eyes were beginning to droop, her body relaxed. It felt so good to sink into the couch and Christian, to allow her mind to begin to drift towards that place of dreams, where she can dream about happiness and her family and Christian being her best friend instead of all this blood and gore and sadness. Being so close to Christian, feeling his warmth and hearing his breathing, it should make her have happy dreams and not nightmares. She had had a boyfriend a couple months ago but he never made her feel this way. She just felt like the day hadn't happened and she allowed herself to pretend it hadn't. She felt her lips twitch upward at the weight of his head on hers. It was a reassurance, a comfort. Her eyes fluttered a little when he spoke and she let out a slight giggle, weighed down by exhaustion.

"Really?" she mumbled just as softly, "I was just thinking the same thing." she shifted the slightest, sinking closer to him as her fingers sought his hand. Slowly, she wrapped her fingers around his hand before holding it tightly, allowing her eyes to fully drift close. She knew for sure now, she wouldn't have any nightmares.

Christian nuzzled against Lillian, closing his eyes and feeling the warm embrace of sleep coming to take away the days pains and sorrows. He felt movement and pondered at it, until he felt Lillian's hand slip into his. He smiled and intertwined their fingers, giving her hand a gentle reassuring squeeze.

    "Good night Lil."

    TIME SKIP

Christian slept soundly, no dreams and no nightmares. It was obvious they had needed the rest. The emotional and physical exhaustion had been almost unbearable. But when it came down to it, all Christian needed was to sleep comfortably with Lillian safe, by her side. When Christian awoke, he found that they no longer slept sitting down, but instead had laid out in the middle of the night. Christian's head was against the arm of the couch and Lillian lay on his chest sleeping soundly. He could feel the rise and fall of her breath and let himself a small smile. They had survived day one together, if only just so. Christian's smile faded as he began to think, and came to the realization that soon they'd have to get up and get moving. But for now, he just let Lillian sleep, and enjoyed the contact. He'd wait for her to wake up. Then they'd have breakfast and be on their way. Christian had a few ideas of what to do next.

Lillian heard Christian's distant voice wish her a good night. She was already in that place of drifting into the darkness of sleep, his voice far away. She barely mumbled out a good night back before she fully sunk into the darkness, the sleep much needed. She didn't have any nightmares but instead, she had a nice dream. Her family was alive, Randy too, and everything was normal. Christian and her were good friends and eventually in the dream, they started to date. It was the life she wished she had, the life she craved. She wanted everything to be back to normal and to be with Christian in a world not as painful as this. The dream ended with her head against Christian's chest, the beating of his heart resounding in her head.

Her eyes slowly fluttered open, a small smile playing on her lips from the dream she had. She could still hear Christian's heartbeat, a steady thump, a reassurance that made her sigh softly and snuggle farther into the body under hers. It felt good, to lay here and be against someone solid, alive. It felt good to be able to hear his heartbeat and be reminded he was really here, he wasn't going anywhere. Her eyes drifted close again but slowly, they opened again. The dream was going away, swirling into the depths of her mind that she couldn't grasp, and the reality of the world was coming back to her. The smile slowly dropped as his heartbeat kept resounding in her head. The dream was just a dream. A moment of peace for her but now it was over and she remembered the reality of everything. She gave another soft sigh, assuming Christian was still asleep as she relaxed into him. She hoped they could lay here for a while more before they had to move. After all, Christian deserved the rest, in her opinion.

Christian felt Lillian move and snuggle closer to him. He smiled again, and wished that this moment could last forever. But he knew it couldn't. They had to get moving, and soon. He didn't want to burst this bubble of safety and comfort just to emerge into a world that was violent and unforgiving. Not just yet anyway. Just a few more minutes.

"Well well, sounds like sleeping beauty has finally come out of her slumber," Christian said softly, smiling. But even as he said this, his mind was working fast. Plans for what they needed to do began flowing through his brain.

He knew that they needed to avoid places of high population. But there was a small problem. They had no way to get out of the city quickly. It could take hours to walk, and that's time that they definitely couldn't waste. Also, they needed supplies. They found far more than Christian had hoped for, but there were a few more things that he wanted. A knife, maybe some MRE's, a hatchet, a compass, a map and quite a few other things. So his plan, while dangerous was essential. He wanted to go back to his house, grab his car, and then stop at an Army Navy store, and see if they could find anything, anything at all that could help them. Then, they needed to get out of the city.

Lillian listened to his heart beat, so glad to be hearing it. She couldn't live without him, not in this world. She was surprised when he spoke, his voice rumbling through his chest. What he said made the smile return to her face and she let out a soft laugh. "And so has Prince Charming." she said, the smile growing on her face. It felt good to just lay here and relax with Christian, to just smile with him. He made her feel good even when she had so many emotions going on in her head.

She knew they would have to move any minute. She knew they would have to get up, have breakfast, and go back out to face that hell. She didn't want too. Of course she didn't. She just wanted to stay here, with Christian, and listen to his heart beat. Each time they went outside, there was a possibility that it could stop beating and that scared her more than anything. She couldn't make it without Chris. She already came to that realization long ago. She relaxed more into him, savouring the closeness and the thudding in her ear and the sound of his voice. If only none of this hadn't happened. If only.

Christian chuckled, grinning as Lillian called him Prince Charming. She had finally began to flirt with him as well. Which was good, it helped ease some of the stress of this life. And they needed to relieve as much as possible, when they could. Christian yawned and said, "I don't think I've ever slept better. Which is strange, considering."

Christian wasn't just being cute either. He felt refreshed and renewed, ready to take on whatever they had to face today. He knew it was because of Lillian. There was something about her that made him want to protect her with his whole being. He would never let anything bad ever happen to her, even if it meant his own life. But he didn't think it would come to that. If they were smart, they would survive this.

"I wish we didn't have to move."

The smile was still on Lillian's face, as she silently agreed with him about sleeping. Being so close to him just helped her whole body relax and for her to sleep better than she has in a while. The protection he was offering her was making it so easy to just feel good, even despite everything that has happened. Which was a good thing, she presumed. She needed someone that could make her just take a deep breath and remember the good things she still had. Like her life, it was a really good thing she still had that. The smile began to drop when he spoke for a second time. She sighed, shutting her eyes for another moment before opening them. "I guess we have stuff to do today." she said softly, bending and lifting her legs to get them untangled from Christian's. She felt her cheeks heat up a bit as she shifted, leaning up and settling herself onto his stomach. The position made her blush hotter and so, she hurried to get off of him, standing up and moving so he could stand too. She reached up, rubbing at her eyes before stretching her fingers to the ceiling. "Morning bathroom break." she mumbled, heading towards the door between the vending machines that led to the small bathroom with a toilet and sink.

She flashed a smile his way over her shoulder before slipping inside, turning on the light and closing the door. She thought, maybe, she would need some time alone, want some time alone to breath and think, but really, she just wanted to stay near Christian. She realized that the more time that passed in this new world, no matter how short, she needed him more and more. She used the bathroom and made sure to wash her hands before looking into the mirror. Her curly hair was mussed, a messy bed head, and she bit her lip when she saw a bit of dried blood on her arms. She wasn't sure where that came from, maybe from when she was attacked yesterday at the diner, but it made her heart race a little faster at the sight of it. This was the new world, she might as well get use to see that, but it still made her stomach churn and she suddenly felt sick. She took a few, deep breaths, forcing the little food she had in her to stay in. She forced all the disgusting things she had seen yesterday from her head, she couldn't deal with that right now. She had to get through this. She turned on the sink and quickly washed off her arms. She let out a breath before splashing her face with cold water and running her wet fingers through her hair. She wished she had a hair tie on her. She nodded at herself in the mirror, willing herself to keep her mind off of those things. She dried her arms and face and took another deep breath before leaving the bathroom, returning to Christian.
