Okey Omega, what do you prefer Quirin the unsanctioned psyker or an Astropath?

Wow, this thread has moved quickly.

Question - although I have a decent idea of how Rogue Trader works and a knowledge of 40k Lore I don't actually have access to the source book because I'm at University at the moment. So how would you like me to work out the stats and such?

Either is fine with me, my favorite part about Rogue Traders is just how rogue they can go.

These are the basic stats with little blurbs written by Zedeace, for each one you start with 25 and roll 2d10 and add the result. I also just realized I did mine wrong, not only did I not reroll one but I rolled 2d10 9 times and then allocated the values rather than directly applying the.

Weapon skill: Hitting people in melee, using all kinds of weapon to hack, slash, crush, tear and stab
Ballistic skill: Shooting people really good
Strength: Carry more, hit harder in melee, all phsyical skills are based off this (Climb, swim etc) Also intimidate
Toughness: Take more wounds and shrug off pain. resist poisons and toxins, hold your breath etc
Agility: More agile, harder to hit in melee and range, acrobatic type characters.
    Intelligence: Pretty self explanatory
Will power: Resisting fear and corruption, saving yourself from going insane and mutating from corruption
Perception: How good you are at spotting things
Fellowship: How good you are with people

“Enemies of the Imperium, hear me. You have come here to die. The Immortal Emperor is with us and we are invincible. His soldiers will strike you down. His war machines will crush you under their treads. His mighty guns will bring the very sky crashing down upon you. You cannot win. The Emperor has given us his greatest weapon to wield. So make yourselves ready. We are the Imperial Guard, and your doom is upon you. "

Then I will get on modifying Quirin to fit with the game and have him posted as soon as possible.

Where we going to use the stats or not? For it would be a problem if a character who by his background is rather smart end up stupid an buff due to a dice roll.

You can reroll 1 roll in the and start with 500 exp to buy things like skill increases in the rulebook at least.

I don't know, I have always hated the concept of rolling up a character. I have always preferred to be creative and making one with a interesting background instead, we will see what the dice say, but generally if the dice roll do not fit my character at all that is a problem. It is my most hated part of the Warhammer 40 000 RPG games as I never think my stats reflect my characters very well.

Indeed 40k roleplay is well known for not being nice when it comes to rolling character creation. The best thing I can say is to roll stats then build a character around those stats but that does not work well with freeform. There is an alternate way of making character stats and that is you have 25 in each stat and can allocate 100 points across your stats with no more than 20 put into any one stat.

example of DH character creation gone wrong.

Off course one can build one's character around the stats one get, but then one can end up having to play a character which is completely uninteresting, for example since the combat elements is not my thing really, I mean combat can add to the story and all but combat in and off itself is not my specialty but I can end up having to play a dumb brute with little other function than as a tank. I much prefer the other option for character creation where one set points out as one deem would be natural for the character.

I do not think Warhammer is particularly bad at this, I just generally do not like the concept of rolling up a character as for me roleplaying have always been about character development and the story not about stats and then the rules system is just there to prevent the pang pang you are dead...no I am not sort of scenarios.

The general rule i use in my IRL games is that you have the choice to either role up the stats, or allocate 100 points as omega said. Rolling up the stats you generally end up having about 20 points more than if you allocate the 100, what i do is roll up the 2d10 9 times then choose which stats those numbers go into. I personally prefer rolling the stats, more unique, but the allocating of the 100 points allows you to make your character exactly how you want him.
Now as for this game is was going to be more free form, stats are not entirely necessary though it would be good to have them, makes things easier for me to work out whether or not you succeed at various tasks.
I would say just tell me about your psyker in the ooc, all the stuff that i need to know. Out of the 9 stats let me know at least 4 that hes good at and that will work with me.

I think I will allocate the stats then. I will post Quirin, I just have not had the time today since I have been playing over chat with someone from my gaming group all evening. I will try to get him posted tomorrow.
