Yuri, as in... Love between two women? As in... Lesbianism?

Well. This is gonna open a can of worms if this topic takes off, but, welp, here I go. *Puts on miner's helmet with a flashlight on it, turns it on* Lets get to it.

    RPG's De Facto Standards
Technically the one rule to rule them all is be "Fonz cool." Homosexuality of all forms is Fonz cool so long as it does not break the PG-13 barrier. If anyone tells you otherwise, they obviously don't know site policy. Generally speaking...
For RP's: It's on an RP-to-RP basis and up to the GM. If a GM rejects your character because they're homosexual, that's incredible uncool, but I guarantee you there's nine more GM's who will take it arms open wide in welcome.
For Staff: They don't discriminate, and there are no policies that reject homosexuality of any form. Not even the Yuri genre.

Personally: I have no problems whatsoever with the Yuri genre so long as it remains, strictly, in one of two categories.
    A. (If underaged): It's written specifically for women of that age group to either fulfill a niché (that isn't porn), to educate, to give relate-able characters to the sexually confused, etc. (If it's NOT underaged): That it's not poorly disguised ecchi or pornographic content.
    B. It's merely a de facto standard of the universe (or a bucking thereof), and is written to question the nature of sexuality, to enhance a character, to add a little variety to the typical homogenous hive-mind of heterosexual adventurers, etc.

If you're going to write homosexuality of any kind just for the sake of pornography or sexual entertainment? Here on RPG? You can go fuck yourself in my books. That's a waste of space, and time, and depending on how it's done, literally offensive to everyone reading it (both heterosexual and homosexual). If you're writing a homosexual set of character(s) (IE: The entire Yuri genre) for the purposes of showing that a homosexual is just as normal as everyone else, for additional flavour to an otherwise regular character, to help define a character's sense of self, to alter their interactions with other characters, etc, that's cool.

tl;dr: The Yuri genre is just fine on RPG. So long as it's not pornographic in nature.

For all I care you could RP a love triangle between a walrus, a giraffe and an inflatable alligator. As long as you're RP'ing within forum rules, pretty much everything is cool.

Personally I'm not too big on romance-centric RP's, though, and calling something 'yuri' makes it pretty clear what your game's focus is gonna be. So you'll have to do with a "meh" as an answer to your question.

I don't mind it. I like romance in my RPs whether it's straight or homosexual(although I'm much better at playing the conventional FxM pairings). However, I just don't like it being the main focus so I tend to make sure there's an actual plot too.

There should be at least a few lesbian characters in every RP.

The fact that its titled a genre in its own, when its just a sexuality orientation.... That gets on my nerves. Call it what it truly is: a genre of another sort, be it fantasy, modern, sci-fi, romance or more, with lesbian characters present >_>" anyone who feels the need to lable a story as "yuri" because of character sexuality aired in them, i find a little bit shallow.

But, anyways, enough with that... I'd typically be gung-ho on zed's idea that every rp needs lesbians, but that's partially bias on my part for familiarity in a character role.... But also the fact that i love a range of different characters in the cast.

    It's pretty cool. I approve.

Now a question in return: what do you think of Yaoi, Joril?

I love Yuri! He was my most favourite Red Alert Character ever!

    ...

Ok, I know what this thread actually means but I had to make the joke.

Now for what I think about the genre, I think I'll organize it similar to how Brovo did since it does divide the different areas pretty well.

    Roleplaying

Yuri is really just "Women X Women" romance and/or sex. I can understand staff putting sex restrictions against that in order to keep a site PG-13, but never should Staff members or DM's be allowed to ban relationships between two women from being represented or expressed.

If you do want to just roleplay sex scenes all the time, that's what PM's are for. The Guild allows it, you just can't post it where any little kid could find it. But honestly I find that silly in itself since if a little kid was capable enough to get on this site and find a roleplay, they're capable of enough to getting on google and looking up porn. Besides, knowing the community on this site (Mainly Spam, and OOC Free and 1x1 roleplays, sex and dirty talk is as common as water and even if mature rp's are restricted to PM's child can still very easily get exposed to such things, but invited into such private RP's or simply be linked to things such as that. The ban from the staff really just seems unneeded and unrealistic about how the internet works.

However I grant the Guild may just be trying to maintain a certain reputation.

    Personally

No issues here in the slightest. I've only been in 1 or 2 of these kinds of RP's myself (out of say, 100-200 roleplays at least) and I never got into them nor did they last beyond a page or so.

But if that's just me, and my personal tastes when it comes to RPs and I had quit mature themed roleplays over a year ago because I simply got tired of them and it seems like an excuse to get horny with no reason or purpose behind it, but I'm getting off topic. It does also serve as a good purpose also for education and to make relate-able characters.

For the echii and just flat out porn I have no issues with people roleplaying it out, it's just not something I personally do and I hope that those who do use it in this fashion do not allow stereotypes of a lesbian relationship to venture anywhere outside of that RP and that no one feels harrassed/abused by the RP (In other words, don't do it where others are also trying to roleplay and like all kind of sexual/dirty roleplays make it consentual and not have it turn into sexual abusive through the internet).

And no, someone who feels harrassed by the RP's because they are religious (or just homophobic) and view homosexuality as a bad act doesn't count.
That is the homophobic person being discriminating against those of different sexualities, and not those of certain sexualities discriminating against the homophobic person.

    It's a genre? What?

"Hey guys, I read this book."

"Oh yeah? What kind of book was it?"

"I decided I was reading too much fantasy and science fiction, so I branched out and picked up a lesbian novel for a change."

@Gwazi Magnum: It's (mainly) for Google Adwords, which helps pay for the site. Adult content = Google Adwords detects it = bad shit happens for everybody.

Plus, the matter of legality. Good luck getting your high school friends on without having to smuggle them onto the site if it allows adult content and thus has an 18+ cap.

On top of this, allowing adult content would open the flood gates. We'd get 90% terrible written porn and, maybe, this is optimistic, 10% genuinely written for the sake of the universe.

I've had to censor my own game worlds and posts before posting them up, but it's a lesser evil, really, it is. Believe me. I know more than I want to know about it at this point.

@Foxes: Yep. It's a legit genre. In fact, as I recall, there are at least three legit genres that are specific to lesbianism. Not just one. This happens to be the Japanese one.

    I'm not kidding.
