So, we're trying really hard to not take part in beating the dead horse here. We don't want to implement any zombies, or otherwise inexplicable entities, as we feel that the threat of starvation, dehydration, and straight-up coldblooded murder is enough. We'd really like to center this game on survival aspects as opposed to an overarching goal. Now I realize that for some of you that's a turn off; I know that there are a lot of people who need a primary objective to keep them going, and so we do have a background, and storyline written, and mapped, so you needn't worry about that. The gist of the story is that a deadly virus swept through the world on February 5, 2013 (tomorrow), and killed off nearly everybody. But for some (inexplicable) reason, the virus didn't affect individuals with cancerous cells, and in some cases, in fact, the virus may have sped the healing process of the body, or completely relieved some cancer victims of their ailment entirely. Fast forward 50 years...here we are. Our "protagonists", if you will, find themselves in Canada. The weather is cold, it is miserable, and it is inhospitable for most. Mainly those who haven't become accustomed to such an environment. But our protagonists have been here for around 13 or so years, just trying to salvage what they can, and hopefully reestablish civilization. At first it felt as though they were grasping at straws, chasing a pipe dream, but that all changed when 2 emaciated cows were found not far from the chosen campsite. The next few months were spent nurturing the cows, using the female for milk in the later stages of its health. During this time, our protagonists may have erected a fence, or some kind of barrier around their camp, and have effectively defended it from marauders. The years after that were spent growing crops, and breeding cows for the slaughter. This group of 20-or-so people have finally erected a community, a society, a place to call...home. Until, finally, someone accidentally switches the CD player to its radio setting, and they arbitrarily catch a broadcast. The language is unfamiliar to them, but they're certain that it's Portuguese, or Hispanic of some sort. After months of struggling to figure out what it says, the broadcast finally provides an English rendition; "We are across the water from Logo Anibal Pinto." They give coordinates. "We have food, and water that we've estimated to last at least another 100 years. There is only 11 of us here. We are armed, but we only hope to repopulate." The message repeats. An intense argument ensues, and lasts for another month. In the end? Only 5 of the community members have decided to go. This is their story.
We hope to implement 3 factions: a religious cult that blames the plague on the sins of humanity, and they've made it their duty to "cleanse" the land of any and all sinners. Their leader, a man named Richard Faulkner, is believed to be Jesus' second coming.
The second faction would be pretty much just a band of raiders, alliance non-specific. You can either travel together, travel in pairs, or travel as a group. This isn't exactly a faction, but rather a character archetype, albeit an important one.
And finally, we have the military's remains. These are the 70-some-odd-year-old men who have rallied the younger men together to "restore America to its former glory."

Such Beautifully Horrible Things
This beautifully stitched skin as white as wax, just like when they were alive.
Their mouths that cannot clamour noisily or tell lies any longer.
Aren't they all far more beautiful than when they were alive?
...
How sad it would be, should laughter disappear.
This sounds lovely.
