Blackbury, The Underworld Capitol

It's the present day, in a world closely resembling our own. Except of course, a few things are different, there are always a few things different. In this case, it's that humanity is secretly being observed by various "Supernatural" beings. Vampires, Werewolves, and Humans born able to use Magic,for years have hidden on the fringes of society, keeping their entire existence secret for countless centuries. In days long past they would generally be considered monsters to be feared, but have been mostly forgotten. All the supernatural beings had made an agreement, not to harm humans. (more than would be necessary) and keep themselves a total secret.

Obviously, not everyone agrees with this, Werewolves are violent, Vampires have their bloodlust, and Mages tend to crave power. So to keep everything underground, a number of supernaturals decided to become Vigilantes, killing off threats to the secrecy and protecting humanity in their own way.

So, in 2013, in the fictional city of Blackbury, in the United Kingdom, one of the cities with the largest concentration of Supernatural beings, a new club just opened, called the Overworld.

Overworld is run by an ancient vampire, who for years had maintained the Underworld Tavern in blackbury, a private bar for Supernatural beings ONLY, but now Overworld, is a new gamble. A place for both humans and supernaturals to drink and party together. With private rooms for "special guests" of course.

oh, and a vampire just murdered a human in the middle of the club on opening night!

First things first, The rules. This is a serious Roleplay, and there are serious guidelines

1. I am only accepting six players, ideally those from the interest check, I shall wait until there are at least six applications to judge them all and handpick the six I think are best. I'm choosing based off your initial character, how well written I think it is, and what I think it will add to the RP. And also how consistent I think you will be

2. Don't disappear. Please, if you think you may go entirely MIA for a period of two days or more without warning, please understand that is a quick death-blow to any RP and I want this one to stay alive

3. Hang out in the OOC, post at least once a day if possible. Chat about anything, make sure I know you are there and give me whatever feedback you have.

There are three Supernatural "Conditions" in this world, each with their own traits and rules. In the old version of this RP I allowed races to be created, but I'm discontinuing that practice because it is far more trouble than it is worth.

There are some blanket rules that apply to each and every race, they are

Every condition is both heritable and infectious. Transmission has it's own rules for each but inheritance is identical. Two parents with same condition = child with that condition, one human, one Supernatural, = 50/50 chance of offspring having that condition, two parents of different races = guaranteed human

Every condition also has some mental affects. Take these into account creating your character.

Hybridizing is entirely impossible. Each race is immune to the others completely, and if, say, a werewolf and a vampire both infected a human at the same time. he would die, Gruesomely



Magic Users
Mages are exactly what you see in fantasy stories. Humans able to harness an unknown power colloquially called "magic" and apply it in various ways. Magic has no hypothetical limits, with experimenting mages finding necromancy, mind control, energy manipulation, and telekinesis all equally possible. All magic is limited however, by the energy of the user.

Energy can be equated to ATP in the human body. A mage will be physically fatigued by creating fire, for instance. So high calorie foods and good physical health are priorities for mages. Magic also interacts interestingly with caffeine and other stimulants. Mages can't get any sort of high or addiction, it simply all goes straight to a pool of energy for magic. The energy drink, ecstasy tablet, and methamphetamine are the mages best friend.

Magical ability is transferable through... well... Magic. A mage can transfer a significant portion of their available energy (usually half) to a human and teach them to harness and manipulate it themselves. This is often referred to as "tutoring." The process fails entirely on Werewolves and Vampires.

Mages have a tendency to be somewhat quirky compared to others. This is generally visible in a more upbeat attitude than others, but also a hint of arrogance. Craving for power is a very common symptom, becoming the only sort of addiction a mage could form, and a dangerous one. Because overdosing on magical energy causes accidents and can be fatal.

Other than Magic, Mages get no other advantages, no enhanced physical attributes, no extended lifespan. However, their abilities are the easiest by far to hide.

Werewolves
Werewolves, or Lycanthropes, or Furries or whatever you want to call them. Humans with the ability to access an alternate form, a hybrid between a wolf and a human of course. Werewolves are able to transform at will, but are forced to on full moon nights. So most run away from human society on these nights to hide.

Werewolves in a human form are slightly physically superior to humans in basically every way, sensory, strength, stamina, etc. In wolf form, these strengths are greatly amplified, though with a slight loss of sanity, varying between individuals. Werewolves are omnivorous, but have a tendency towards meat, raw included. They also heal extremely rapidly unless silver is involved

Lycanthropy is contagious through fluid contact, most commonly a bite. Upon infection, it usually incubates within the victim until the next full moon night, where they are forcibly transformed and most often go entirely feral, running on instincts and a threat to basically everyone around them. A feral can be stopped and brought back to sanity, but this is extremely difficult and they are usually killed outright. Unless they are intentionally infecting others, most Werewolves hunt down potential ferals and kill them before the next full moon to prevent problems.

Werewolves usually have an extreme personality, most often violent. This is very much worse in wolf form, where they can range from slightly more irritable to completely insane. In wolf form, they also have a desire to infect others and spread the species.

Werewolves have an unexplained silver allergy. Any wounds made by sharpened silver or silver bullets will heal at a very slow rate, slower than an ordinary human would heal a similar wound. Merely touching the metal can cause a rash, and Werewolves have an instinctive fear of it.

Werewolves age more slowly than humans, at roughly 1/3rd the normal rate starting past adolescence. They usually have problems hiding their condition.

Vampires
The oldest, strongest, and most important race. According to themselves. The bloodsucking, manipulative, and UV ray fearing Vampires are ageless, crafty, and strong. Unlike most myths, Vampires look mostly human, their skin is paler than most, and their canine teeth are longer and upon close inspection you may deduce that there is something up with a Vampire (especially if you notice the red in their eyes) but they typically pass it off as albinism. Or just a goth obsession.

Vampires are the exclusive predator of humanity, feeding on their blood and pulling the strings to control them. Vampires typically wind up in very powerful positions, such as CEO of a corporation or a prominent politician. Keeping their dangerous secret hidden.

Vampires require human blood to survive. Though they can and do eat ordinary food, without a blood supplement, they will eventually wither and die, most facilities catering to supernatural guests will keep some blood on hand for any Vampire that passes through. Vampires also have an extreme sensitivity to UV rays, leading to the famous sunlight weakness. Vampires will quite literally burn if exposed to UV rays for too long, a little bit of exposure is merely irritating, but it should not be ignored. Out in public in the day, Vampires often cover up with hoods and thick clothing to ward off the sun.

Vampirism is contagious through deliberate infection, that is, a Vampire may choose whether or not to infect those he or she bites. A Vampire turned by another often develops a certain emotional attachment to their "Sire" and are often educated by him.

Vampires tend towards extreme arrogance and manipulation, as well as generally secretive and aloof attitudes. They may open up to others, and indeed some Vampires are actually quite outgoing and amicable, but it is considered quite a risk to do so.

Vampires cannot age once they are infected, or, if born a vampire, they will age until 24 physically.

Name: Rhiannon Donaldson aka Rhian (pronounced Ryan)

Race: Mage

Appearance: 5' 9", 140 pounds, very slender with long legs and arms, small breasts and hips. She is half black, half-Chinese and has dimples when she smiles. Dark eyes and very curly hair that hits just above her shoulders, frequently under a newsie-style cap. She wears all designer clothing tailored to her perfectly.

History: Rhiannon was born and raised among the 'old money' of New York City. Her father, an influencial lawyer, married her mother while overseas on a business trip after only knowing her for 2 weeks. Her mother died a few years after having her so Rhiannon was raised primarily by her father and nannies while he was out of town. Her father raised her with everything he never had and instilled an idea in her that she deserved, and already owned, the world.

She discovered her powers during college at a prestigious university in England in her first year. Dealing mostly with mind magic and life, she is able to read minds, influence people's thoughts and heal or harm. She used this to ace all of her classes without trying, and gets a thrill by taking things, especially men, that aren't hers by using what they really want versus what they say they want.

She went into photography and art, despite her father's protests, and works as a freelance photographer and artist. Always has her laptop with her. Travels a lot, enjoys the company of other supernatural beings as she feels like she is finally with equals.

Personality: Rhiannon is active, charismatic, but lacks sympathy. She knows how other people feel, but always feels like there is something everyone can do to get over their own problems. She loves loud, bassy clubs and will be out most nights until 2AM, then sleep until noon the next day. She is rather carefree and walks with confidence.

Skills: Mind magic (telephathy and such) and life magic (healing, but nothing super serious). She's mostly worked on her mind skills.

Preferred weaponry: She is an avid kickboxer and is never afraid to walk down a dark alley at night because she can take care of herself.

Preferred weapons: Fists. But she also carries a .357 just in case. She has her CHL and wears it holstered to her side under vests.

History: Born with the luck of being Empress Genshō's haindmaiden, Akane [who was born with a different name but prefers her adopted one] lived a life of luxury for the working class in the Nara period of Japan. Being an attendat to the ruler of the Chrysanthemum Throne did not come without it's hazards but for the most part, life was good for her. Akane learned to be silent, efficient and above all: unseen. All traits that served her well when she was turned by a vampire who came to pay a visit to the Empress. Akane ended up having to hide herself through the Feudal Era and the Shogunate and finally, to the invasion of the foreigners. Akane has been on her own for the last 1,000 years or so and has recently, in the past 600 years, begun to interact more with the humans. She underwent a wardrobe shift and set to work mastering some new skills since about the only thing she learned on her own were languages and they were usually a bit archaic due to the way she was raised speaking.

As of 2013, Akane has managed to rise rapidly through the business ranks with a modest "family owned" bank, called Nara Bank and Trust, that has spread out into stocks and investments and now has branches internationally ini every first world country and a few second world countries. With clever funding, Akane has managed to gain stock in a few major shipping and healthcare agencies and she is funneling finances into the synthetic blood industry in an attempt to provide for her own needs. Just about the only human [or creature of any kind really] she trusts is a Londoner named Bella Edinburgh as her family have been loyal companions of Akane's for 17 generations by now.

As for feeding, well, she prefers warm, fresh human blood. Though she is always careful to choose willing targets, she cannot always control when she is hungry. Sometimes, it gets out of hand and she ends up accidentally harming humans, but she rarely lets herself become so thirsty anymore. It just makes more sense to leave them alive, and then she doesn't feel the marginal pity that comes with murdering someone.

Despite all her years, Akane has had little to no contact with the Supernatural community and has barely come to understand the basics of Werewolves and Mages. She also has no major contacts among her own kind, prefering to steer clear of her sometimes crazy kin.

Personality: Emotions are a little difficult for Akane but she strives to understand those around her because it makes blending in much easier. Generally speaking, she is fairly stoic and prefers to present the world with a mild, and rather bland smile that doesn't reach her eyes. Akane can be described as eye-catching [as all her race can be] and she enjoys meeting new people, but often tries to downplay herself and scheme ways to use the people she meets to further her own ideas. People often mistake this for friendship and do not truly know how capricious she can be, her mood shifting as often as strobe lights flash.

Akane has a fondness for the color red, as per usual, and for passionate people. Though she often associates with more affluent people, she prefers to spend time around thugs, clubbers, and anyone with a bad habit as they remind her of what it is to be truly alive.

When Akane is nearly starved, she enters a frenzy and begins to violently destroy the nearest food source via limb ripping and tearing into throats to get at the warm blood flowing within. This is her beast and has no logic, emotions or civility. It will kill until her hunger is sated and only then can she return. She has no memory of these events when she wakes. Due to the beast within her, animals tend to shy away from her.

Skills: Trained in the use of swords and knives to a well-honed degree, basic unarmed self-defense, and observational skills. Her supernatural advantages are strength and speed, and mild emotional control of others though sunlight is an almost immediate kill and she fears fire to the point of it being an actual phobia. Akane's technical skills with computers are nearly superhuman though it required years of effort and she's no good with anything else. Like phones, cars, dvd players.

Preferred weaponry: Traditonal katana and wakizashi, though carrying the katana around can sometimes prove difficult without garnering attention, she always has the wakizashi on her. When she is in a blood frenzy, she uses only her teeth and bare hands though.

Equipment: Akane has modern clothes, a single luxury car, her motorcycle, three homes in three different countries [one in Blackbury, one in Nara, Japan and one in America] and her smartphone. She carries a golden pocket watch with an engraving on the inside that she never lets anyone see and usually has some simple, very expensive jewelry on her.

Race: Wherewolf.

History: Gleb actually grew up in Blackbury, he is quite a young werewolf actually one of the few people who actually that was born a werewolf. His mother got infected with the lycan virus as she was carrying Gleb in her stomach thereby infecting his blood and making him a lycan to, now comes the twisted part of this story. About a week before he was originally planned to come to this world, his birth mother was in the hospital to deliver him to this hellish world. Still unknowing that there was going to be a full moon. She had not really developed the virus fully by now so she wasn't going to transform.. But Gleb.. He was a fetus evolving the virus evolved with him making him a stronger werewolf then the most of the ones that turned by getting bit by a werewolf. And his mother had no idea of this so as soon as the full moon was showing completely and she was laying there on the table.. He started to change and rapidly growing resulting in... Well bursting out of her stomach like an alien from the aliens movies. It was a horrible scene and even as the doctor looked upon this monster he could not kill him.. He left him at a orphanage where he was raised and as they were catholics they thought he was of the devil so they kept him locked in the basements during the full moons as he grew up. Until one day he broke out and stumbled upon a vampire babbling about Blackbury, he sought out this place and found it. Spending his time there since he was about eleven, mostly making a living doing club fights to entertain the crowd at the club.

Personality: He is quite social, well not very social but considered social by his undead company. He is friendly at times but can come off as an asshole sometimes.

Skills: Besides being able to transform into a werewolf he is almost a expert of the MMA fighting style and are incredibly good with acrobatics, he is noty really trained with any weapons and prefers his claws or fists above anything else.

Race: Magic Human
Appearance: Appears to be an unassuming Asian man, stands at five feet five inches, and weighs at around one-hundred eighty-four pounds. However, his appearances, hell, his entire identity can change from one second to another due to his shapeshifting abilities, not to mention other tricks he has.
History: The history of the one known as "Donny Kain Maverick" is dubious at best. A family member of Maverick Manufacturing, history says that Donny was born to the owner and founder, Jordan Maverick and Aoi Yang. However, no one of the current Maverick family knows of a sibling called Donny; at least not without being introduced to him. Maverick Manufacturing's own history is one hidden in deceit; on the surface, it's a company that produces car parts and other machinery for heavy construction. Not one of the most well renowned companies, but that's how they like it; in truth, they're a terrorist organization that deals with smuggling and armament. They trade in drugs, slaves, and bullets, if need be. This is where "Donny" comes in; a relatively new member of the family, he leads a branch of the Maverick manufacturing company in Blackbury, attempting to set up business here. It is a mystery to many if they know about the existence of the supernatural, but Donny certainly seems to know something is up...
Personality: Donny changes personalities like changing clothes; whatever he feels like for the the day, and whatever is appropriate for the situation. In the guise of Donny, he seems like a rather boring office accountant for Maverick Manufacturing, working hard and playing hard. But he's not so easy that his personality can just be put into words...
Skills: Donny Maverick, a magically empowered human, has two distinct abilities; Shapeshifting and Cloning. He can turn his body into nearly anything imaginable, limited only to how much energy he has within him. Cloning is a bit easier, but he didn't trust his clones very much.
Preferred weaponry: He uses his shape shifting ability to hide many weapons in his body, some of which he's forgotten he has.
Miscellaneous: The Donny Kain Maverick Character is a married man, 38 years old, with three children. His wife's name is Seraph Annalee Maverick, and has one son and one girl. Both are twins; the boy is Lucius and the girl is Lucilia. They do exist, but it is questionable if they realize who their husband is, and what he does.

Name: Markus Devotte (Goes by Mark)

Age: 845 (looks 24)

Gender: Male

Race: Vampire

Appearance: Markus has short black hair, and a black goatee. He wears thin sunglasses at almost all times (to hide his eyes). He is about 6'6" so he is very intimidating, as he is very athletic. He wears nice clothing (suits most of the time) and wears long black/beige coats and black dress shoes. He also wears an ancient bronze pocket watch that his mentor made for him which contains a vile of blood that he can use in dire situations where he craves blood. Markus usually smokes a pipe, but out in the streets he'll smoke normal cigarettes.

Personality: Markus is very open to people and isn't afraid to start a conversation, but can come across as rude and judgemental at times. He is a gentlemen and believes in the utmost manners, even if he himself forgets them sometimes. He fears sunlight, silver and water (but he can swim if need be). He can be charming at his best, and terrifying at his worst.

Skills: Extremely Fast Reflexes/Running, High Jumping, Highly Intellectual and Stealthy.

Preferred weaponry: Markus carries a small handgun (9mm) but prefers to use his hunting knife (or sword when prepared for a fight).

Miscellaneous: Markus can heal his own wounds by drinking the blood of the person who caused the injury, but he cannot repair fatal wounds (dismemberment, punctured organs, etc.). Markus can also survive during the daytime in open sunlight, but it is very uncomfortable and after an hour or so of sunlight his skin begins to burn and melt.

History: Markus was born in Nottingham, England where he was orphaned after his mother and father were hung for being accused as witches. His mentor, who Markus only knew as Alucard discovered his birthright of being a vampire, like himself and decided to take him under his wing. Alucard brought him up as a vampire and taught him everything he knew. They lived in southern Scotland for most of their lives but never picking up the accent. Markus becoming a very smart investigator, discovered that Alucard was the one who had his parents hung by throwing the blame off of him being a vampire, and accusing them of witchcraft. Markus became furious and killed his mentor during the night. After a few years of being a hot-headed cop, he was hired as a Detective for murder and rape victims. Markus spends a lot of time in the morgue when the body is first brought, and insists nobody does anything to it until he "investigates." After he checks for clues, he sucks a desired amount of blood and proceeds with the investigation as normal. When he returns home, he smokes his pipe and reads to further his knowledge.
