Axelle was in college when the event happened. It was simply luck that allowed her to live. She had a roommate obsessed with the ‘zombie apocalypse’ idea, and had luckily been with her in their room when the earthquakes began. She had a whole survival kit made up, and after the first quake was over, they found an open field and waited it out as earthquake after earthquake rolled in, even causing the ground to move like water underneath them. A crack opened in the earth during one of these, and her friend fell inside. Axelle had managed to grab the backpack, actually in an attempt to keep her friend from falling, but her friend couldn’t hold onto the strap and fell inside. Axelle rummaged through the bag and found food, water, 1st aid kits, a gas mask, and the flashlight. There were no weapons inside, probably because they weren’t allowed on campus.
Axelle waited until the earthquakes stopped, and made her way home to her parents’ house. Among the rubble, she dug out some of her father’s guns and bullets, not to mention her own compound bow. She was lucky enough to find her sleeping bag as well, though not so lucky in finding her parents mangled bodies under the ruins. After that, Axelle began scavenging. She broke into an archery store and stole arrows and broadheads for her bow. Others weren’t far behind, having the same idea as she did, and she had to get out of there before getting much else. Axelle has survived by stealing what little food and water there is while conserving what she can. Because of her scavenging, she’s used up bullets in a couple of her father’s guns she stole and tossed them away, leaving her with just one now. Her goal is just to survive, in hopes that one day in her lifetime she can live and not just survive.
