The Next Shaman King: OOC

In the year 2000, life is much the same as it ever was for the average man. However, a whole community has kept themselves hidden from the normal for centuries. The supernatural: ghosts and spirits. Beings of nature protecting their habitats or the shady dead, with their own vengeances or personal issues to sort out before moving on. Beside them are those able to see them, from good natured humans or those who’ve had ghosts reach out to them. However, of those humans who can see them, there are Shamans. Shamans learn to connect with and control Spirits, for good or ill, for the benefits of themselves or others.

However, the supreme Shaman is always known as the Shaman King, whom merges with the Great Spirit, and can choose the course of the world for the next 500 years. The Shaman King is not unlike a physical god. The King is determined by the Shaman Fight, a contest and tournament meant to divine the one best for the world. The time is coming for the Shaman Fight to begin once more, and the representatives from the Shaman cultures around the world are gathering in Japan, where Round 1 will begin. But no matter the outcome, the course of the world will change.

[b]Backstory:[/b] I like to try an use backstories for in game developments, so having threads for either you or I to tie up is preferable. Beyond that, it should be adequate to tell how your character became a Shaman and how they met their Spirit Ally.

[b]Oversoul:[/b] Consider this your ‘fighting style’ section as well. How does your character fight? What does their Oversoul look like and how does it help them? It will evolve as the RP goes on, so keep that in mind.

While this RP is based on Shaman King, it will not be following the plot one for one. In fact, there will numerous differences: Round 1 is the only point where there are similarities.

Furyoku: While Furyoku will be much the same as it was in the canon, power levels won’t be kept track of, and neither should power ups in the form of death/near death. Since PvP will be likely, I don’t want a fight to be decided by which character got the last power up. ‘How will my character strengthen?’ you might ask. The normal way for this type of RP: training, practice, fighting and overcoming ordeals. Characters still have the Furyoku levels, but these should be kept as vague as possible. (This may be subject to change)

Yokohama: The site of round one, the city has seen some happenings both normal and paranormal. There has been a rise in gang violence and organized crime lately, for unknown reasons, and Shamans from around the world have gathered to participate in the Shaman Fight, but the rise in tourists and foreigners visiting in the cold weather of January has been noticed, and is creating a bit of a buzz.

The Eerste Tribe: A name heard throughout the Shaman world. The Tribe, based in Africa, is known for holding the Shaman Fight every 500 years. This one promises to be more grandiose than ever, as the tribe’s Chief, Chukwu, also happens to be the CEO of the prolific Gees Mining Corporation, which has generated them a huge amount of funds. Their officials are waiting in Yokohama for Shamans, so that they might earn their Oracle Bells and be entered into the Shaman Fight officially.

Round one will go mostly as it did in the canon. However, it will be a bit harder to relay that in the RP, due to the difference in mediums. First, your character will have to fight one of the officials and earn their Oracle Bell by landing a hit on the formidable Shamans. This is optional, but can be a good way to introduce your character, and Pacifista and myself will be posting one each of our characters as an example to help you out. Aside from the name of the official (of which I’ll give a random one of the ten on request), you are allowed to do anything with them, though I’d rather not have any of them killed, since they are supposed to be formidable.

Second, your character will have to get two wins out of a possible three fights. The easy way would be to have them bash a couple of NPCs in, but I want to see the players fight each other too. To make that go smoothly, I’ll ask that you two decide the victor of the fight ahead of time, based on character skill, events surrounding the fight, and who still needs victories: because deciding during a fight may result in miscommunication and forcing one player into a position they aren’t happy with. To keep posts from stalling during this period, I will contact anyone whom is holding the other up, and eventually may NPC their character. By deciding who will win first means that there won’t be an truly unpleasant outcome. I might also accept another Co-GM for the purpose of helping to NPC missing players if it becomes a problem. Timetables might look like this:

24 hours after opponent’s last post = PM
24 hours after PM sent = NPCed character
24 hours after NPCed character’s opponent posts again = NPCed until player returns

So, in closing, Round 1 will be pretty open ended. I’d really like to see character relations develop here: allies, rivalries, friendships...all will be quite important by the later rounds.

Facts and Questions:

Q: Can we have multiple Spirits?
A: At the outset, characters can only use one Spirit in combat. Additional ones can be obtained later with permission.

Q: Can we have multiple Mediums?
A: This is the same as with Spirits.

Q: How are Spirit Classes being handled?
A: There are still three. Ghost Class are standard spirits. They transcend to Seirei Class after 500 years of death. Normally, this would increase their strength as well, but for he purpose of the RP, they will have similar strength, so a character will only be stronger through their own strength, skill, and intellect, rather than because they chose a stronger Spirit. Kami class are special Spirits whom can get stronger on there own, and will be disallowed at this point in the RP.

Q: What if I want multiple characters?
A: At this point, everyone gets one each. I'd like there to be a sizable number, but I also don't want new players to be intimidated with so many characters running around, or anyone to be overwhelmed, for that matter. I might raise the limit as it goes on. With each character comes at least one Spirit as well.

If I do allow multiple characters, it won't be impossible to introduce them later in the RP.

Q: Is their an age range?
A: It should probably be younger. Characters will be growing as the RP progresses, and older people just don't grow as easily (this was even referenced in the series itself). There is no hard rule, but it should be kept in mind.

Q: I don't know much about Shaman King. What do?
A: Give these pages a look over. Checking out other Character Sheets might help too. Shaman, Terminology, and Oversoul. Not all notes in the Terminology page are Canon to this RP, but I'm pretty sure all of the important ones are accounted for. If you have any doubts, let me know, and I can clarify.

Q: Can I leave the backstory vague?
A: This is fine, but if I feel it's still lacking, I may mention it and ask for additions or such.

Personality:
Victor is the person that rather wants to watch from the background, keeping his cool while he observes what is happening around him before he makes a move. He dislikes loudmouthes greatly, though he sometimes act like one when he wants to trick somebody.

Other then that, he is very protective for his friends and even while he sometimes get's in an argument with some, where he can been seen as a stubborn fool, he still will freely sacrifice his own health to make sure the one who he cares for or see as friend won't have to suffer. Victor think it is his duty as he had failed his siblings, seeing them die one by one when he was still living at this parents home.
Backstory:
Victor had that normal generic and cliché youth. Just a normal youth, where his parents were drunks, he had to work to go to school and stay sane. You know, the life of a poor kid that just wants to achieve something average in life, without taking that low life trouble with him.

He managed to achieve some big succes, for his background then, in his life, but then his life was turned upside down. Working as a engineer, he got an accident where he got struck by electricity and was brought to the hospital, more dead then alive. He managed to live through it, but it had changed his life forever.
Oversoul:
Victor is a cunning fighter. He likes to trick his foes into believing they have the upper hand, before he shows them the truth : that they have been doing what he was hoping for or driving them to. Victor also don't believe in something like honour or such piteful things when he is in a combat situation. Using his fit body, he will just destroy his foes as fast and good as he can. Mercy and honour are the principles of the weak.

His Over Soul is that he creates electricity around his hands and often use other things, like water, wire or what ever he sees that he can use, to trick or trap his enemy with and then let the electricity do is his work. The other style is that he tries to get up close and because of his fit and trained body, trying to dodge most attacks and grab his foe and then giving them the shock of their life.

Bitter and often sarcastic. Nikola isn't somebody who you would like to drink a cup of tea with. He is often in a bad mood and it very rare to even hear him laugh. Though he often helps Victor with advise, he also berates Victor whenever he sees fit. This can often cause the two to clash in a verbal conflict, though the two respect each other good enough that they work together when they know the need is high.

But then again, it isn't strange that Victor sometimes snaps when Nikola berates him during combat or when he thinks Victor is making mistakes.
Backstory:
Nikola Tesla (Serbian Cyrillic: Никола Тесла; 10 July 1856 – 7 January 1943) was a Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, physicist, and futurist best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current (AC) electrical supply system.

Tesla started working in the telephony and electrical fields before emigrating to the United States in 1884 to work for Thomas Edison. He soon struck out on his own with financial backers, setting up laboratories/companies to develop a range of electrical devices. His patented AC induction motor and transformer were licensed by George Westinghouse, who also hired Tesla as a consultant to help develop an alternating current system. Tesla is also known for his high-voltage, high-frequency power experiments in New York and Colorado Springs which included patented devices and theoretical work used in the invention of radio communication, for his X-ray experiments, and for his ill-fated attempt at intercontinental wireless transmission in his unfinished Wardenclyffe Tower project.
