Don't do that or the thread may shut the whole thing down.

I'm just curious as to what it is you dislike about the contest because there's always room for improvement, and I'm too lazy to go find old threads where you talked about it.
I haven't kept up with WOTM precisely due to my displeasure with it, but my sense is that nothing has changed since my first anti-establishment rabblerabble. If that hunch is correct, the "we're always looking to improve WOTM" line smells an awful lot like bullshit. Kagamine said that enough last time. Of course, to address my complaints would require a fundamental restructuring of WOTM, and seeing as the world hasn't stopped turning because of my dissatisfaction with the competition it's really not a big deal. I'm content in my lack of participation and I'm certainly not going to ask everyone else to roll over because I'm unhappy.

I'll voice my concerns, though. In my opinion, the components restrict the freedom to write by forcing writers to adhere to often ridiculous tropes thrown in for "fun." Overall themes are mediocre, neither bad nor good. They aren't limiting, but they aren't inspiring, either. The same can be said for Components, most of the time. My spin-off, Writer's Underground if I recall the name correctly, only restricted writers to a specific genre. People were enthusiastic about it, but being unofficial it failed dismally.

I'll put no more work into such endeavors.

Well, I said there's always room for improvement, not necessarily that constant improvement is going to happen or even a true goal.

But yeah, that makes sense. Unfortunately, you're correct in that nothing has changed or likely will change because it comes down to a fundamental difference in opinions in what makes for a good writing contest. Thanks for taking the time to remind me of your views on the subject though, criticism is useful.

Did you know we have a Writer of the Month contest? Come join it.
WOTM #26: Evil Wins is open and accepting entries through June 4th.

    At least you're honest. :P

And yeah, it's mainly a clash of perspectives on encouraging writing and I'm not the one in the position to enact any policy changes in my image of what WOTM should look like. This is probably for the best anyway.

Oh hey. This is a thing again.

I almost said something about taking the theme and all, since even Foxes came up with his own genre when WU was a thing, but then I was like "fuck it WOTM got 22 entries this month I don't even care".

It's not like Travel Log which got enough flack here that I really thought there would be an entry shortage with WU around. But there still wasn't. Not much less than the highly popular Betrayal which was last month's. Also quite a few Spammers entered if I recall.

But yeah, WOTM does look to improve. We make tiny changes all the time trying to fix little things and make the contest better. Unfortunately Foxes while I respect your opinion, a complete restructuring of WOTM will not happen. Especially since it doesn't pertain to "the masses" like you kept talking about with the WU thing. You're fervently against components, I get that. But it's mainly just you.

But uh, yeaaaah... The current system works well. We just focus on fixing what doesn't.

At any rate, I'm glad this thread could go up without either one of us spitting flames at each other like last time. I groaned when I saw this thread just because I was afraid of all that bubbling back up.

Oh lol, well it started out as a joke, I was going to make my own anti-WOTM since I didn't get my 'inspiration' until today. x) I figured since the entries were all in for WOTM using the theme wouldn't matter. Since my beautiful masterpiece was structured around the theme of the actual WOTM. x) So yeahh wee WOTM: Spam Edition. <3

Well hey now. No need to be anti-WOTM if you clearly support it. "Spam edition" will suffice for a title.
