    Spirit (suspect and me)

    Scarlet-

The sound of my heart's quickening beat was enough to drown out whatever little conversation I could hear in the distance. Night had come, it was time for my plan to come into action. While being here for a few days I had somehow managed to keep safe, well, safe enough to the point where I could come home with my head still held up with pride. Sadly, it was that pride and stubbornness that had earned me a good slap across the face from a southern soldier.
Just thinking of it made my cheek throb again, reliving it made tears well up; didn't let them fall. No, I wouldn't let those demons see weakness, I wouldn't let them keep me any longer. They had taken me from my home, a little farm house not far from where they were about to have battle. What made them come in on an innocent family was beyond me, but in a way I felt it grateful that they hadn't taken little Nancy or Charlotte. Only being 14 and 10 they couldn't have stood a chance, not like their 'wild' sister.
It was the word 'wild', as it crossed my mind, that brought me back to my mission at hand. Now I was sneaking though the shadows to the indian. It made me feel a tad better to know I wasn't the only one stupid enough to get captured by these men.

It had been not but the next day when they brought the indian to the camp. Dragging him by his hair, his hands tied behind him, they took him to a post all by himself. He was not aloud to be fed, he had dirty water to struggle to reach for, and the men liked to come over to taunt him.

In truth, the sight of the indian had, at first, frightened me. Who knew what they were capable of, for all we knew he might be able to escape from that post and kill whomever he wanted- I had heard indians were sneaky like that, able to blend in with everything.
However, after 2 days I realized that he was in the same spot as me, he and I couldn't be that different....Maybe he would be willing to listen to me and my deal. Just in case he wouldn't I brought an apple I stole to maybe bribe him a bit.

Having the plan in mind, I knew where everything was. While the men were not watching or trying to mess with me I had gathered up things I would need to run- my only problem was I didn't know which way to run. He would come in help, that is, if he was willing to make a deal.

Taking a deep breath and holding it, I hid behind a tent as men piled into another one across the way to finally sleep. As the lamp light from inside dimmed I glanced out from my hiding place and spotted the indian boy. His hands were tied behind his back and tied to the pole, he was a mess and probably hungry. When I saw no one else was coming I quickly came up in front of him, my hands behind my back to hide the apple away.

"Hello." My voice was nothing but a hushed whisper in the wind, and at first I was afraid that he hadn't heard me. Could he even speak english? "Listen-" If he could he could tell me his answer after I asked, "I'm your friend." That was a good place to start, though I wasn't sure if that was the truth or not- seeing as how I was keeping a safe distance from this 'friend' of mine.
"Look." Kneeling down in front of him I pulled out the apple, holding it out at arm's length and trying to manage a smile. It hurt a bit, my cheek still pink and slightly swollen, but I managed one somehow. "I brought you some food. You're hungry aren't ya?"
Suddenly there was a bit of rustling from behind me, which frightened me and I quickly jumped to the point of my meeting him. "Now, I don't want to be here, and I'm sure you don't want to be here. I can get you free, we can go, but you have to promise me you'll take me with you. You don't hurt me, I don't hurt you- we will be allies." Turning around quickly I saw that the rustling had been nothing but a small animal. Sighing softly to myself I turned back to him to see what his answer would be, that is if he understood any of that jumbled, hushed, frantic talk I had just blurted out.

((Not the best starter and i"m sorry, but it's something i suppose haha. I'm not the best with starters >.<))

He had been beaten, tied up and abused.

Arya shouldn’t have done what he had done. He took something that wasn’t his off of another solider, a dead solider at that. It was a simple medal, that was all bloodied and he just wanted to clean it and then keep it for himself. He sat on the hard, cold cemented floor with his legs pulled up to his chest. He looked towards the outside, seeing that nightfall had come and that there was a full moon out tonight. Arya lowered his head and sighed softly, as his raven colored locks fell over his face. He closed his eyes as the memory of him being captured played like a movie.

It was day time. Arya was walking back towards his village when he heard the pitter patter of horse hooves and started to run. Luckily for him, they didn’t shoot him. He continued on running then cut through the forest, hoping none of them saw him. “He went through the forest!” His ears twitched as one of the officers called out. He was now in deep trouble. He stayed hidden behind a tree, only to be surrounded by them. Two men jumped down from their horses and walked closely to him, smirks placed among their faces. One man took his shotgun and struck Arya in the gut, causing him to fall on his knees, only to be kicked in the chest. They didn’t go easy on him, they beat him for about two minutes but to Arya, it felt like forever. They threw his lifeless carcass over one of the horses, after tying his hands and feet together. He was bloody, bruised and battered. They reached the place where the cell was as one of the men threw his body over his shoulder then walked him inside. “We need to get him cleaned up.” One of the servants cleaned him up, quickly as ordered. Arya was then thrown in a cell as the guys laughed and taunted him. “Maybe you can chant, called the spirits or whatever it is you guys do.” Arya balled up his fists but unclenched them, sitting down on the floor.

Two days have now passed and trays of food were still outside of his cell. He didn’t eat or drink because they probably poisoned it, trying to get rid of him and his kind. A slight whimper came over him, his eyes scanning a girl coming towards him with a light. Her voice was soft but he could hear her just as clear. Arya reached to grab the apple but winced and dropped his arm as his ribs were killing him. He heard of the girl’s plan then looked at her, eyes widened as a bit of rustling took place behind her. He moved away from her but saw that it was only a small animal. With a short coming over his lips, he moved back towards her and smiled after hearing her plan. He nodded then spoke softly but his voice was strong. “But, how are we going to escape?” He asked her with a raised brow then questioned her again while getting in a knelt position, his long braid on the left side flowing from side to side. “How can I trust you?”

He could see that the female had been captured as well but maybe it was a ploy to see if he was going to escape or not. Either way, Arya had to be cautious.

So he could understand english, it would make things so much easier. Not only did he understand my plan, he seemed to like it- maybe he was just as desperate as I was. Smiling to myself, I felt as though I was already on my way home and forgot that this man was an indian. Right now, he was not a 'savage' he was my guide home, my shield, and most likely my fighter.
Then my smile fell when he asked how he was going to trust me. It hard hard to give him a strait answer for that, seeing as how I didn't even completely trust him. It wasn't a complete trust I gave him, and I"m sure it would be the same way with me, but- "I wan't to go home, just as badly as you do- I'm sure of that. I'm trusting you to keep your promise, and you can trust me to keep mine. You'll just have to take my word on that."

With that said I let the apple roll to him before standing up, brushing off my skirt, and looking around. We were at a fort, or maybe some main stop for soldiers- either way I knew we were over the line and into southern territory. There was a small assembly house not far from this jail they had made for prisoners- like the indian. To the right of the assembly house was the stables- that's where I hid the things I had stolen throughout the days being here.
"I'll let you out soon." That's all I told him before blowing out the light and going in the complete darkness to the stables. Almost everyone was asleep, and the horses didn't make much noise as I came in.
One horse, named Ink for his beautiful black coat, had warmed up to me fairly well and that is where I hid my bag of goodies; in his stall. When I came over to him he greeted me with a friendly kiss, moving out of my way to come in. "Hello darling." I said softly to him, gently stroking him before leaning down and digging though the large pile of hay on the ground. Still there, still safe, the pack of things. Slinging it over my shoulder I said my goodbyes and went back to find the key hanging in the assembly hall. This task was trickier, seeing as how most of the officers of high rank slept here and some were very light sleepers. Thankfully, this too wasn't a hard job to get done, however, at one point I had thought I woken up an officer to only find out he was dreaming, talking in his sleep so soundly but with his eyes wide open- disturbing.

The key was mine, I had my bag, now all I needed was the indian. Carefully opening the heavy bared door I once again kept a safe distance from him just in case he had been tricking me about all of this and planed on killing me right when I opened the door. At least now, if he tried to lunge, I could run.
"Alright now, I let you out. Which way do we go? We need to get out of here quick." My voice was urgent but still quiet, though now I was getting even more nervous about all of this. I mean. . .I just let a wild man out of a cage and was helping him! All I could tell myself was that desperate times call for stupid desperate measures.

When he heard her answer towards his trust question, he nodded then turned around from her as she got up. His eyes followed the apple as he leaned forward and grabbed ahold of it, tossing it towards the other uneaten trays of food. Arya went back into his usual position, the position he has been in since he got there, knees buried into his chest and head placed in-between them, his raven locks of hairs hiding his face. Arya lifted his head up as some guards came in there, only to laugh and taunt him more. Arya hissed at them as they brought him more food, throwing the tray into the cage as if he was an animal. ‘If they only knew.’ He thought to himself while smirking as the guards left.

They were busting out. He had a newfound friend and she was American, or so he think she was.

When the door opened to the jail, he jumped then seen the girl as he got up to his feet and ran to the barred door. When she unlocked it and opened it, he was free and ready to fight his way to get to his destination. Hearing the words of the female, he shrugged his shoulders then looked around. Indians know how to use their environment to their advantage; that was a good thing in this type of situation. Arya placed his index finger over his lips, letting the female know that she has to be quiet for this to work. He waved his hand for her to follow him. They completely stripped him of his weapons, so he’ll have to use his hands but he forgot that he was in a jail and most of the guards were sleeping. “Wait here.” He said in a hush tone, one matching the female’s as he went into the office.

“What you doing in here, boy?” One of the officers asked then the next thing that could be heard were shots being implanted into someone’s body. They were muffled shots; only the female could hear them. It was about five minutes until Arya came out of the office and he looked at the female. “Does this place have horses?” He asked as guards were starting to come. Arya grabbed the female’s arm tightly as he leaned down and whispered. “Go get the horse, I’ll meet you there.” He loosened up his grip then let go of her arm as he breathed slowly to himself, holding the gun up towards his face. He shot his way through the guards as he made out of there safely, only a shot in his arm.

Arya made it to the stables, grasping onto his arm, looking for the female and hoped that she didn’t leave without him. If she did, he was a dead man.

He had frightened me- and that was putting it nicely. Whether he could tell it on my face or not, even I couldn't tell for I wasn't sure what kind of expression I was making. It was when he grabbed onto my arm so hard that I did my best not to yelp but was about to smack him, but keeping under control I listened to him. . .maybe that was mostly because of the gun in his hand. If I angered him what would keep him from shooting me?

After telling me what to do I ran towards the stables as fast as I could, having to pick up my skirts high so I wouldn't trip over them. Once there I didn't have time to catch my breath, instead I got Ink out while still panting. My heart was racing and I noticed how I was shaking as I tried to pick up one of the saddles. Living on a farm all of my life, I knew how to saddle up a horse and did it without any problems. It took a moment to get on, for I almost fell back when I jumped- more gun shots were being fired off and it had startled me.

Either way I got on the horse, waited for the indian, and then saw him coming in from the other side. He seemed to be hurt, but I couldn't do anything about it now and instead had Ink go over to him. "Come on, hop on. We got to get out of here. You're making such a ruckus!" Maybe I really shouldn't be scolding him right now, but still! "Let's go." Commanding Ink to gallop away I hit him hard in the sides once the indian was on. We ran out of that stable so fast I was afraid I would fall off for a moment, to make sure I didn't I held onto his black mane as he sped away from the men trying to shoot the three of us. "Which way?!" I asked the indian, glancing back at him so he could tell me which way to steer the horse.

He laughed when she came over to him, talking about the ruckus he had caused.

"We had to leave with a bang." And that was literally what he did. He got up on the horse, wincing as his arm was killing him; the blood flowed all the way down to his hand. More shots were being fired towards them as he didn't bother to shoot back, since they were too far now. 'After them!' Arya ears twitched when he heard those words being yelled out. "It doesn't matter way, just don't stop." He said while looking back, seeing some guards come after them. This doesn't end, never. "I got a plan but you will have to keep going then stop at that sign." He whispered softly as they were coming up on a tree. Arya knew the woods like the back of his hand, so yeah, there was a sign up ahead. He smirked while placing the gun in his pants and reaching his arms up to grab a branch. He then cried out a little bit as it hurt his injured arm but he quickly pulled himself up.

Arya removed the gun from his pants, cocked it then aimed it at the oncoming guards. Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! The guards were down, the horses stopped and neighing.

He jumped down from the branch and landed on his feet, like a cat. He made sure that the guards were dead before continuing any further.

Arya went over to one of the horses, rubbing it against the top of its nose to calm it down as he scaled the horse, grabbing the reigns. "Yah!" He hit the horse's sides then he and the horse were off, going to meet up with the female and her horse. The hooves of the horses pitter-pattered in a rhythm, twigs snapping under its feet. They reached the sign, only to find the female and the other horse there as he pulled the reigns back, stopping the horse. "Are you alright?" He asked her, brow rose as he got off his horse, still grabbing at his arm. "I don't think that they are going to come way out...” He walked over to her, making sure that she was okay. "The horse is okay too right?" He was worried about them both, since things didn't really go his way.

Just my luck- I got the 'funny' cocky indian guy who just had to go out with a bang! It was when he told me he had a plan did I forgive him on the inside- not that I had given him any reason to think I didn't think less of him; we hadn't had enough time to show anything like that. When he said to the sign I just kept my eye out for this 'sign' of his, and it took me a moment to realize he was off the horse.
Oh the shock it had given me, making me have a small heart attack almost, but I quickly got over it when I looked back and saw him hanging on a tree, shooting at the soldiers. He would make it, I'm sure his ego or something was to big for him to let him die so easily. So far, first impressions weren't the greatest, but who cared what I thought of him as long as he got me home?

Putting those thoughts out of my mind I made it to the forest, and a minute or two later I was waiting by the sign, still sitting on Ink who was panting hard. My breath was rather quick as well, and by the way my heart raced and how I couldn't quite catch my breath yet, you would have thought I was the one who did all the running. However, what made me worry now was that the indian boy hadn't made it and one of those soldiers were coming for me. What if they were? Oh, there was no getting out of this! No matter how much I struggled, I knew they could over power me quickly- it would be the end of me! The thought brougth tears to my eyes, and for a split moment I even felt bad for dragging the boy down with me. "What have I done?"

Whispering to myself I waited in worry for the boy to come, but instead I heard footsteps. Pannicing I was about to turn to run, but it was to late, the man and horse were here but before I could let out a cry of any sort I saw it was the indian. He stole a horse . . . he was okay. . .Out of my pure excitement and relief I got down from the horse but stumbled, catching my foot and almost falling on my face. With wide eyes, which I didn't take off of the indian, I steadied myself and met him slightly half way.
"The horse is fine, I'm fine." Trying to keep my voice steady was now my new worry, and I wasn't doing such a good job about keeping it from shaking. Quickly I made it seem that this shaking wasn't due to fear but anger and glared at him. "You're such a fool! Asking if we are hurt? Do we look hurt?! You're the one who's been shot!!" Still I didn't get to close to him, but I was tempted to reach out so I could get a better look at his arm. Instead, after taking a breath or two I set down the backback and looked at him with a sligtly softer look. "It hurts, doesn't it?" my voice was softer too, and though I didn't want to show to much of it, I did show some of the consern though my tone. "Let me see your arm. I'll fix it up for you. We don't want you getting sick from it, slowing us down."

Arya looked at her and laughed then shook his head while grasping at his arm, which she wanted to help him fix. He didn’t argue with her as he nodded then knelt down on the ground, watching her as she fixed the wound. “So, why did you want to escape?” He questioned her softly and wincing a little as she was attending to the wound. He looked up towards the starry sky then smiled, looking towards her. “Sure is a beautiful night.” He then looked back towards the sky, still that smile placed among his lips.

When she finished with wound, he checked it out then thanked her while getting back up to his feet. “Oh, wait is your name?” He asked her, brow raised and a smirk spreading among his lips. “I’m Arya.” He said while jumping back on his respective horse and looking down towards the girl. “We must keep moving.” He spoke with a firm nod towards her afterwards then hit the horse in the sides as it lightly started to gallop.

They were now criminals on the run. Arya had always been a criminal but kept that to himself, for now. He didn’t want the poor little female to know too much about him just yet. He sighed through his lips as they reached an open field, where he stopped and yawned. “I’m getting tired. I say we make camp here?” He asked her while staring into her eyes, not getting off his horse yet, just in case she said no.

His laugh surprised me, and I glared a bit at him; feeling he was laughing at me. Either way, laughing at me or not, I fixed him up but wasn't done being surprised. He was rather friendly, which kind of confused me, for I didn't think his kind liked mine. Though the way he was acting you would have never guessed. Friendly and calm he told me his name, but I didn't have a chance to tell him mine.

Really, I hadn't had a chance to answer anything he said to me. It was always the same; he would stay something, I'd be a bit taken back, then when I was about to try and answer he would move on to the next thing. So, finally I just stopped trying to answer him, and instead gave a quick nod and got on my horse, following after him once everything was put back in the bag.

Finally I spoke again when he stopped and asked about camp. His dark eyes were on mine, and I found it slightly strange that such dark eyes could sparkle like his could. However, that was probably because of the moon light. Coming to that conclusion I realized what I was thinking, realizing I was being a stupid girl and 'realizing how his eyes sparkled'- dear goodness! There was something wrong with me!
Quickly looking away I got off my horse, leading it over to tie it on a low branch before looking back at him over my shoulder. "Here is fine."

While he was getting down and we were getting set up I suddenly blurted out some of the answers to the questions he asked awhile ago. "I didn't want to stay there. They took me to do dirty work and. . ." I didn't want to say what else, for it scared me to think that someone could touch me without me letting them. Not finishing the sentence I turned to look at him again. "And my name is Scarlet."

(( I apologize for the late reply. ))

Arya watched as she tied her horse to a low branch, following suit he tied his horse to a much higher branch, looking at her with a smile. He knew that he was asking too many questions but he didn’t want to feel like he was escaping with a stranger, well she was a stranger but they have to at least get to know each other. He walked toward the woods as he didn’t tell her where he was going. Arya went to fetch some wood, so that they could build a fire. They were far enough from the jailhouse, so there was nothing to worry about.

He was gone for a good ten minutes and came back with at least a good few of sticks, worthy enough to start a fire with.

Arya dropped the sticks on the ground then looked over towards Scarlet as she finally answered his questions. He walked back over towards the horses and dug through the bag, which was placed on the horse’s side. He was looking for matches, which Arya found and gripped in his hand and walked towards the sticks. He struck one then fixed up the sticks with his foot as he threw the match towards them. An instant blaze.

He knelt down and took other stick, twirling it around in the fire to give it a decent flame.

His eyes went over towards Scarlet as he then stood up. His lips moved to speak to her. “Hey, I bet you are wondering why I am so nice to you.” He said while now walking over towards her, where he sat down then patted the spot beside him for her to sit, if she wanted to. “Am I supposed to hate you?” He looked serious at her while biting his bottom lip, his eyes then shifted towards the fire.
