I had an amazing advanced RP with some players a few years ago here, it's such a shame that just when the RP gets really good EVERYONE STOPS POSTING!! >
It was a great dungeons/dragons kinda RP altho now I mostly post romance :O
A few years ago I did a roleplay that lasted for like, 6 months. It was a summer camp based theme, where everyone lived in cabins on a beach front. Everyone was friends, it was mainly a huge roleplay party. I think the most people we had was around 12, and there was easily over 10,000 posts.
See the animal in his cage that you built. Are you sure what side you're on? Better not look him too closely in the eye. Are you sure what side of the glass you are on? See the safety of the life you have built. Everything where it belongs. Feel the hollowness inside of your heart. And it's all... Right where it belongs. What if everything around you. Isn't quite as it seems? What if all the world you think you know. Is an elaborate dream? And if you look at your reflection. Is it all you want it to be? What if you could look right through the cracks? Would you find yourself... Find yourself afraid to see? What if all the world's inside of your head. Just creations of your own? Your devils and your gods. All the living and the dead. And you're really all alone? You can live in this illusion. You can choose to believe. You keep looking but you can't find the woods. While you're hiding in the trees. What if everything around you. Isn't quite as it seems? What if all the world you used to know. Is an elaborate dream? And if you look at your reflection. Is it all you want to be? What if you could look right through the cracks. Would you find yourself... Find yourself afraid to see?

I can't really remember specifics but my best ones have always been my 1x1's.
There was one I made in another forum, where it was set in the Mother/Earthbound universe. It lasted for about eight months, had 12 players in it at it's height of activity, with at least 20 or so characters running around the place. We never got anywhere near to finishing it, but we still got a lot done. It was probably the most fun RP I'd ever been in.
It's great to be back. I almost forgot how much fun this can be.

Mine would have to be an Advanced RP Game of Thrones roleplay (set in an alternate universe and a different, earlier timeline than the books and show take place in) I did here on RPG. It lasted for 4 months, which is sadly the longest lasting forum RP I've ever been a part of. It was quite large in scope, as one would hope from a Game of Thrones roleplay, with ~15 total players creating over 60 characters between them. I had four that I made regular use of, two that I used once in a while and was building into higher usage before the roleplay died, and I had three other characters planned with character sheets made and ready to go. I became a Co-GM and took charge of writing up a periodic summary of all the events taking place in the IC thread (it was definitely necessary to keep track of it all). It was by far my greatest RP ever.
I ended up having to leave it, and it died not too long after due to other players having to do the same, but I still consider it a successful RP. Completion isn't the metric to success, not that the game ever would have reached a definite conclusion to all plot lines, enjoying yourself greatly is all that matters. I did so, as did the other players, so it was a success. I haven't been able to find anything else since then that even came close to being as fun, which is unsurprising but also kind of sad.

Once upon a time, many years ago, a young Christiefries partook in an RP that spanned out over about one year. She and the other participants would take approximately one month long hiatuses every couple of months, but always eventually returned to start where they left off. Eventually, some of them did not return, and an ending for their journey together was created as they went their separate ways.
Many years later, Christiefries had a friend that introduced her to these forums, where she has not had much luck so far.
Best RP for her was the first RP she GM'd called Dreamwaver, cuz it lasted for like a year and by some feat of otherworldly sorcery beyond the understanding of mere mortals, actually managed to finish. Plus the other players were great and made some characters which were interesting to watch grow.
