World child...cryptic, Vincent says, his fondness for Avery obviously growing.

Shut it, Isaac tells him, drinking from his own glass of water.

To Avery, he says, "Yeah, I knew the both of them, and a few of the regulars. I found her, Mrs. Wilson, hiding in the cleaning closet, half-conscious. She told me that her husband disappeared before she passed out. She took the orders and her husband cooked the food, just like in those old movies." Isaac smiles sadly. "They were together almost fifty years before today. They told me it would've been their anniversary next month."

He looks down at Bane, slightly unnerved by the gleam of intelligence he sees in the dog's eyes when he looks back. "What kind of dog is he?" Isaac asks, trying to change the topic. He doesn't do well with negative things.

She nodded, thinking it all thru. *So...they are only taking some people...not all of them...why? Did she just happen to hide in time? Or was it something else....* She snapped back when he asked what Bane was. She looked up and said "Bane is...a husky wolf mix. Its why his big." Bane rolled his eyes again only to get another foot tap from Avery. Avery looked at Isaac again and said "So, what's your story? I mean, what made you go there today just in time to save Mrs. Wilson?" Bane kicked the chair, reminding her not to get to much into questioning him.

Isaac shrugs. "I was hungry. I haven't really eaten today. When I showed up at the diner, no one was there. I went into the kitchen, heard a noise, and found her in the closet." As he's talking, a couple of squad cars speed past the window of the pizzeria, lights flashing and sirens blaring. What do you think that was about? he asks Vincent.

Probably another abduction. That'd make two today, wouldn't it?

Yeah. Usually they only take one person a night.

As Isaac watched the squad cars fly by, a waiter brought the pizza to their table, bringing Isaac back to their conversation. Wanting to be polite, he waits for Avery to take the first slice and asks, "So, are you a cop or something? Is that why you're so interested in what's going on?"

She took the bite then said "Not really. I just like to keep ahead of things...don't like getting into trouble if I can avoid it..." Bane chuckled lightly then was kicked by Avery again. He glared up at her *Can we go now? THat was more cops to another location, somewhere with fresh scents* Avery sighed then stood. "I hate to be a stick in the mud, but I have to get going. I work nights, sadly. If you ever need another slice or just want to chat, give me a call" She pulled out a card and slid it to him, then headed for the door. "Be careful out there, Isaac...its not safe on the streets right now..." Bane stood up and followed her, but not before licking Isaac's hand before following his partner. When they got outside he looked up at her. *Now?* She nodded and he turned and walked into a shadow, vanishing from sight. Then she took off running after where the cops had gone, ducking into the allyways

Isaac, still sitting, picks up the card and turns it over. Seemed like a nice girl, he says.

I'm proud of you, pal, Vincent says. You just met her and you already got her number! That's something straight out of my own playbook.

Standing, he says, What, actually trying to be friends with women? Since when?

A moment of silence passes. Eh, think what you wish, Vincent finally says. You wanna go see what the cops were running off to?

Without another word, Isaac makes for the door, only to be stopped by a hand gripping his arm. "Where do you think you're going?" the waiter asks. "Your friend ran off without paying the bill, so it's on you to do it."

Isaac runs his hand over his face, sighing, then reaches into his pocket to get his wallet, one of the few possessions he has. Opening it, he hands the waiter the last bit of money he had, a ten, and walks outside without another word. Running to the other side of the street, he summons a column of iron out of the ground and uses it to propel himself up to the top of the building in front of him. From there, he starts running across the rooftops in the direction of the flashing red-and-blue lights.

Avery was at the scene when she reliazed she had forgotten the bill. She cursed and hung her head. "I'll go back in the morning and pay him...poor guy, nice way to thank him for the info Ave..." She said to herself, then she moved closer to the scene of the new kidnapping. BAne appeared next to her out of the shadows and said "Ave...I have a very bad scent here...lets not stay too long" She shook her head and said "I need to get an idea of what happened here...give me a minute..." She closed her eyes for a moment, then opened them. They were glowing again, her eyes reading the scene again.

Nothing like a little nighttime free-running, huh? Isaac says, jumping across a gap between two buildings.

If you say so, Vincent replies. I wouldn't really know because you never let me try it!

Panting, Isaac stops on a rooftop just across the street from the small group of squad cars. Putting one foot on the low wall surrounding the perimeter of the wall, he leans forward and watches as the police go about their business. What do you think? he asks Vincent.

Not sure...we're gonna have to wait to see if they bring anyone out before making assumptions.

As Isaac watches the proceedings, his eyes scanning the small crowd gathering, he notices someone hanging out in the back. He does a double-take, unsure if he's right. Then, he notices the dog sitting next to her. Hey, it's Avery, he mentions.

I'm not surprised, Vincent replies. It was obvious she was interested in this from the conversation we had back there.

Isaac shrugs and agrees. After a long moment, he asks, Anything?

Vincent waits a long time before casually saying, Isaac, get down unless you wanna lose your head.

He's just about to ask what he meant when he hears a low whooshing sound. He barely has enough time to duck out of the way as the weapon swings over his head. Jumping expertly on the low wall, he sees the silhouette of a fairly large figure holding some sort of long weapon. "So, I guess you're the one behind all this," he says to the figure, which responds with another swing. Isaac avoids it by dropping back, falling off of the ledge. He slows his descent with a semi-solid cloud of carbon and lands on his feet. He then turns to the crowd and shouts "Get out of here!" just as the figure lands behind him.

Bane barked as the two landed, pawing Avery. "Ave, snap out of it! We have company!" Avery blinked then looked around, seeing Isaac and a huge man with a huge weapon in hand. She cursed. "Just when I was getting somewhere..." She ran forward, Bane at her heels. She stopped just a few yards away and said "Hey! Big tall and ugly. Why don't you pick on someone your own size" She reached for her bely under her jacket and pulled out a metal rod. She hit a button on it and it extended out into a boa staff. "Bane, stay near the stand bys until they clear the area, then watch Isaac's back, you got me?" He nodded and ran to to crowd to hurry them out of the range of fire. Then Avery turned to the big guy. "So, what's it going to be, big guy"

"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" Isaac yells at Avery.

Their enemy appears to hesitate, looking from Isaac to Avery. He raises his weapon, Isaac notices it's a large metal club, and brings it crashing down on Isaac's head. He raises his arms, crossing them over his head, and takes the blow. Just before it hit, however, Isaac altered the strength of the metal, making it soft enough for Isaac to take the blow without getting hurt any worse than a couple of bruises. "You just made a big mistake, pal," he growls, his mental barriers keeping Vincent away weakening as the fight goes on.

He holds his right arm out to his side, the markings on his arm glowing through the sleeve of his overcoat. A stream of iron flows out of the ground and envelopes his hand. The metal shapes itself into what seems to be a metal gauntlet, then Isaac clenches his fist and rams it into the man's stomach, winding him and driving him back a few feet. He then turns toward Avery and raises his dented weapon, thinking she'd be an easier target.

Avery smiled and said "You picked wrong, big guy..." she held out her staff. Then she did something very odd. She pulled off her shades. She had her eyes closed when she did so, and as she put the pair into her jacket. Then she opened her eyes. Her eyes were silver, an odd color, showing why she wore the shades. But it wasn't the only reason. Her eyes glowed and she ran forward, her staff out to the side. Suddenly the shadows from all around them flew into hers, and wrapping around her like body armor. She swung her staff, the strength doubled as she hit the guy. As he went flying the shadows caught him, holding him tighter and tigher like a snake as she jumped into the air, her shadows catching her. She lowered herself and raised her hand. "I don't like people who attack when their target's aren't looking..." She threw her arm out and the shadows beat the man into the ground about five times, each with the wave of her fingers. Then she threw him away from her and jumped back to the ground, turwling her staff in her hand. "Want some more big guy?" He slowly got up, a little bit to her shock. Then he was infront of her, like lightening. She cursed as he grabbed her, her shadows not moving fast enough. He held her throat, his grip tightening as she fought for breathing. She cursed, her eyes bluring. "Don't...I don't want...to use it..." Bane ran over to Isaac, growling. "Get him off of her before she uses her Mind Shadow!" But it was too late. Avery's eyes flashed and she was looking straight into his. His eyes glowed too as she fought to break his grip. But she was already working on his mind without really thinking about it, pulling it apart piece by piece. "Avery!" Bane barked.
