    The Spirits Disturbed ~{kingdomekeylight&DD}~

The forest was alive even if the air was filled with unnatural noises. The noise was emanating from a camp perched at the edge of the thickly wooded hills, and even the dense foliage and grating calls of the cicadas could not drown out the sound of forest being torn apart. Animals were being driven from burrows and nests all so humanity could fuel a war. An ambicious young was preparing for a war with a rival that lay south of hte forest, and he was in need of the wood and resources that area was rich in. The great forest was considered a scared place, a place where many kami, spirits, gathered. A small temple had been built deep within the forest, given safe haven to travelers, and a place for them to give offerings to the spirits. It also helped the local village which sat closer to the edge of the vast forest. The villagers lived in relative peace save for the occasional pesky spirit or demon, but it had a greater understanding and respect ofr the powers that slumbered within the lands. When seasons changed and harvest came, they held festivals and rituals to appease the kami since the spirits did have the ability to make the town prosperous. The temple ensured the village did not anger the spirits, and the Kami ensured that the humans were prosperous. This balance was a threat now, for it was the constant success of the village that drew the warlord's attention to the forest. Kami were growing restless, awakening spirits that had slept within the land for generations, and who were not yet ready to be awaken.

A fox sat at the edge of this great forest its charcoal colored fur blending in with the shadows of the thick underbrush. Had anyone in the bustling camp noticed it they would have known it was no ordinary fox, not only due to the color, but it also had nine tails tipped with tufts of silver fur. Ayumi watched the lumber camp with fear, for she knew what slept in these woods. Demons and spirits far more powerful than humanity was aware had slept in these hills for centuries, and destruction was what waited if they were to become fully aware. Ayumi and the other more capable spirits, including the loud big nosed tengu* and the tanuki* raccoon spirit, were all concerned and knew they had to stop the humans at all costs. The temple that sat deep into the woods knew of that the kami were growing agated because even the minor spirits they tended and worshiped were becoming more active and violent.

With a shake of her head, the fox turned tail and trotted off into the underbrush, following various game trails that crisscrossed the entire expanse of the great forest. Humans were useless and meddlesome which was why it was so fun to torment them. The young kitsune had a reputation with the human village for causing mischief and mayhem, so the priests of the temple had made many attempts to prevent her from coming into the village, including holy Buddhist* prayers strung above doorways, but she had found ways around the vial scraps of paper and still caused trouble whenever she could. Her normal antics, thought, had been put to a stop due to the lumber camp since her own small community was too busy disturbing the warlord's men. As she made her way around the temple's outer lying wall, the sound of foot falls made the fox pause with her silver tipped ears pricked forward and tails splayed out. This time of the evening most of the inhabitants of the shrine were taking their evening meal. Even though the sun was still just above the horizon, in the middle of the forest, the interwoven branches and rustling leaves it seem much closer to dusk. In the twilight, she could easily make out a figure ahead.

** Tengu are shape shifting crow spirits, also know for mischievousness where humans are involved. Tanuki are dog like raccoon mythically believed to be shape shifting spirits as well.
**Also to rule out confusion, since it's more of a period RP. The temple is home to Shinto priests. Shintoism is just a belief that everything has a spirit, so they keep the balance, however Buddhism does play a part when deaths occur, so demons like like kitsune and tengu come in, for Buddhism is considered more holy and the demons, while not evil like Christian demons, are still not welcomed as part of the Buddhist faith. Please let me know if you have questions, or if that is too confusing. ^^'

    (Young Priest clicky).
"They just wont listen.... why wont they undertsand," a youthful monk sighed as he walked around the temple trying to block out the sounds of the dreadful work at hand not to far away from his current location. Asaki knew from the very first sight of the youthful warlords men coming to the forest that a harsh, and all to real dark omen had come to their lands. Yet the men of the camps wouldn't listen to the monks pleads also just laughing at the stories of spirits being disturbed. Asaki himself had gone over there a few times to try, and take reason into his own hands only to be turned around with a few bruises from rocks. The only other option the monk could see at the moment was hoping the spirits could scare them away... yet the soldiers only took it at best a sign of childrens play from the villages.
    .
"War never brings anything good to the people... yet this youthful fool's power hunger has no eyes to see the truth," the priest sighed as he hit the back side of his head against the temple slowly lowering himself to the ground in a sitting position. What was he going to have to do talk to the young lord himself.... Asaki's eyes suddenly opened wide at the thought... maybe the young ruler wasn't to blind to atleast hear the pleading of his people... especially that of a holy priest.... even if just a junior priest. Asaki's eyes wondered before noticing the foreign apple tree not to far away from himself... he had remember buying it from a foreigner way back when he was little... he practicle had to beg the high monk to let him plant it in the area. Reaching out to it the monk took in a soft breath of air befor concentrating on a single apple. At first it just seemed like he was bored, and just stretching his hand out... that was until one of the apples snapped off the tree and gently levitated to his hand.
    .
"I wonder if such a warlord would have a care to listen to the rambling truth of a holy man.... besides he is doing this in the name of greed.... should I really expect something to come from such a journey," the young holy man asked himself as he took a bite out of the sweet apple... Fuji.... that what the travel had said they were. The priest let loose a soft smile as he continued to enjoy the apple. No.... he had to atleast try, in the name of both man and spirit.... he had to atleast try.
    .
"It seems I'll be in need of a long talk with the High Priest... and a good amount of supply.... and a guide," the young priest layed his head down in defeat remembering that he had never left the confined area of the temple, and village. How could such a young, and innocent teen expect to survive such a trek?

Ayumi's ears flattened back against her skull as something rustled above her head. A glance upward revealed an apple wavering on its own before it shot off into the foliage. The fox's ears pricked forward, and she darted forward to watch it. A young priest was resting on the ground against the temple wall. From his musings aloud, she gathered that the priest was just as upset about the work camp and was planning on doing something. Ayumi didn't like the priests much. All of her dealings with them had ended with her forced to turn tails and disappear into the forest because they had capabilities of keeping the non-violent demon at bay. Ayumi never really advocated the thought of harming Innocent humans especially those who safeguarded the kami.

Drawing her breath in, she stepped forward though it wasn't a fox that emerged from the underbrush across from the young priest. Ayumi's human form was short and slender with her high cheek bones and oddly narrow face making her slightly resemble the fox that was her other form. Large dark eyes still caught and reflected light in the the growing twilight, "So young priest, you think the warlord will listen to you," she asked the black fox ears she still carried in this form pricked forward. She smiled lightly, but the edge of sarcasm was obvious in her tone. "I do not think a greedy young warlord is going to listen to a priest at all, especially not a young one. He's and evil selfish human, and very few humans care for balance," she stepped forward. "How do you plan on swaying his mind, priestling? What can you do to stop an over ambitious man from waking those who should not be woken?"
    "I love you," he lied.

The priests eyes immediately were drawn to the source.... and what a surprise it was for the young priest to find himself face to face with a kitsune. The apple he was currently enjoying fell from his hand in utter shock as he quickly regained his composure infront of the kami as he stood up dusting himself off as she suddenly spoke to him about the warlord, and his plans.
    .
"Good morning kami," before responding to her questions the young priest bowed to the spirit with a small chant following the in circling the beaded chains wrapped around his left hand. Once he was finished he smiled at the spirit... it wasnt to often a human even a priest was in the presence of a calm Kami even more a rarity a kitsune do to their troublemaker ways.
    .
"I believe anyone will listen to reason if they are told directly rather then misinformed indirectly. Besides like you said he is yound almost about my age, i believe he will respect to hear my words if I go directly to him, such a journey is pretty far.... also I plan to make sure he understand completely or i will not leave until he does," it wasnt really a realistic answer, but the priest didn't budge from the confident yet soft look on his face.
    .
"So may I ask whose presence I am honored with."
