    21st Century Catastrophe

People knew the war was inevitable, and when things heated up, they really heated up.
Everyone against everyone, it ended just as badly as you think.
It's 2043, many of the survivors of this ordeal have come out of the woodworks and have been out for several years already.
This story takes place somewhere in what's left of the midwestern united states. A large group of survivors of just under one hundred people have claimed one of the few standing building that was once a home improvement store, now refered to simply as "The Depot". The large, four level shelves that onces held lumber, and other things taken for granted in a time long forgotten, now house a colony of people in makeshift homes. People have lived this way for about a decade, sometimes more peacefully than others, but now everything is more or less okay.
A team of five people had been sent out for supplies a week ago, today one of them came back, only one. He hardly had anything on him, save for a poorly scrawled map to somehwere unknown, he also brough back with him a sickness, after sometime we found out it wasn't contagious, but it was deadly, he could barely even speak before he died. He was a friend of mine
"It's all there" were his final words, I assumed he meant the map. That was about three days ago, today I posted a notice on the bulliten board in the Depot
I was going to go find what he was talking about with his dying breath, I couldn't stand to be here anymore, I knew something was up, but I couldn't do it alone, we always went in groups of five, so I asked for four people, anyone willing and able and who had a suit and mask to go on a long trip to find out what happened.

    Name: Mike Devlin
    Age: 37
Appearance/Personality: Of average height and build, short, shaggy brown hair, and a light beard with blue-grey eyes. His hands and arms were hard, and mean looking from years of manual labor in the depot. Is a gruff but generally light hearted guy, very helpful but stubborn, and doesn't care for people who consider themselves "above-him". Tends to make alot of small talk while working but is usually silent while working intently.

Background: Mike was only seven when the bombs went off, he spent fifteen years in the bunker with his family and several other survivors, Him and that group were the ones who founded the Depot, and built it up to what it is today, everything Mike knows about building and repairing, he learned from his father and difficult, hands on work. For the next fifteen years he helped the Depot thrive, many people have come and gone, including his parents, and now his best friend.
Determined to find out what happend, he's leaving an apprentice to undertake his work, and found out what the map leads too.

Equipment: With Guns and Ammo being scarce (In-fact the only gun at the Depot is held by the guards, which is just a small handgun) Mike is taking his Nail-gun with him, which is hooked up to an air-tank that has a built in compressor which is uses to eject the nails, lethal if used properly, and can be used to secure a building. With that he's also bringing a common tool at the Depot often refered to as a "Heater" Which consists of a nine inch metal crylinder about an inch and a half thick, that has a small hand pressed lever on the handle used to super heat the cylinder, which in-turn is used to shape and flatten scrap metal to be used for various things such as fixtures or re-inforcements. Along with all thoes, The standard Protection suit, another homemade item at the Depot, which helps protect the body from some amounts of radiation, as well as a gasmask with a few spare filters, thoes two thinss alone, are more important than any weapon. Aswell as a few standard supplies such as about four days worth of food and water, and a geiger counter.

That's everything you should need to know, for thoes interested post your CS in the same format as mine, if you have any questions feel free to ask, but once I've got four approved CS's I'll get this party started.

reserving my spot. Quick question though...the hell is a "Heater"? At first it sounded like a curling iron or a soldering iron, then you said its used to shape and flatten scrap metal. Having done some welding and having constructed duct work before, I've never encountered a tool capable of what you're describing. Also, where does the power needed to run this "Heater" come from?

Pretty much, this is science fiction, like most hand made things in video games or books or whatever we assume it works, because it does, It's a white-hot metal bar that you use to heat the other piece of metal and bend it by hand

What is the protection suit like? Is it like an actual protection suit, or is it just layers of heavy clothing? Or...?

CS is coming along, but I'm still debating whether I should call him Wolfram. It sounds so coolio but it's so corny.
